  1. I guess that explains your thoughts. Which l, as I’ve maintained, are fair enough.
  2. I’m gobsmacked by the short sightedness of some fans. Make as much fun as you want. Take what I’m saying out of context if you want. But being in the Deloitte top 20 financial rankings brings with it safety from the kind of plans that would have left us behind if the European League had to come into existence. Laugh as much as you want at spurs not winning anything, but at least they were invited to THE party. But hey! At least you could be saying ‘oh but remember we won the third tier of European club competition 30 years ago?’ when having an argument with SHA fans. ‘What a day!’
  3. Ok that’s fair enough, and I’m guessing many share the same sentiments. Emery could leave, Martinez could go. And we could take a nose dive. You're right in what you say, I suppose a lot depends on how you feel where we are as a club
  4. Now you see what I meant by the SHA mentality? Where we differ is that I’m an optimist. I believe we are on the cusps of something greater than the Euro Conference League. You, you think this is as good as it gets.
  5. No, you have it the wrong way around. Let’s get relegated so we can enter the FA Vase which gives us the best chance of winning a trophy. Utter nonsense
  6. Nonsense. whats best for Aston Villa is generating cash. Whats best for YOU is us winning a trophy.
  7. As the saying goes, each to their own. I would want what’s best for Aston Villa, not the ability to brag about a 3rd rate European trophy.
  8. For anyone in any doubt as to which you would ‘prefer’ https://theathletic.com/5466833/2024/05/04/champions-league-qualification-prize-money-earnings/# The simplest starting point is what qualification as one of the 36 competing clubs will bring: a cheque for €18.6m, up from the €15.6m of this season. Now compare that to WINNING this years Europa conference league : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Europa_Conference_League#:~:text=Reaching the knock-out stage, the champions receive €5%2C000%2C000. Yh, €3,000,000 It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see which would benefit THE CLUB more.
  9. You’re absolutely entitled to having your opinion, and if we all had the same opinion, then the world would be a boring place. Calling people ‘spoiled brats’ if their opinion differs to yours is… well… spoiled bratish. And ‘shitty trophy’ is in the realms of relativity. To qualify for the champions league you have had to perform better than 3 of Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Newcastle, Man Utd for 38 games. Dont belittle the achievement of finishing 4th. (I know you did neither.)
  10. Spoilt brat entitlement? I understand the want to win silverware, but remember YOU framed it as either or. The money gained from being IN the champions league, the players attracted by being IN the champions league, the increase in the clubs profile by being IN the champions league completely eclipses the ‘won a European trophy no one gives two **** about’ argument. Stinks of SHA mentality. I want Villa to succeed. I want what’s best for Aston Villa. I can see the long term benefit of being in the champions league over winning the conference cup. You, on the other hand, want some shitty trophy you can crack one off over. Calling people ‘spoilt brats’ over seeing sense. One could argue that YOU, sir, are the spoilt brat - short sighted, and placing your own desires above what is good for the club. I’ll take both. But if I had to choose - it would be the champions league every single time.
  11. Well, if you ask me what’s more important - getting into champions league or winning some Mickey Mouse cup that West Ham won last year…
  12. Can’t stand this guy.
  13. Without him we’d be 3-1 down. this guy just reads the strikers so well best villa keeper ever? Certainly the best of my lifetime - going back to Spink.
  14. I don't understand all the comments about why did the ref blow the whistle for half time? Since when has there been a rule that you can't blow for half time if there is an attack going on? Never. Well past the 2 added minutes. I'd be furious if he DIDN'T blow for half time but rather added on time beyond what was due.
  15. I’m sure Roger’s will come good eventually, but he’s not ready yet. Complete passenger in that first half
  16. https://theintercept.com/2024/01/04/cnn-israel-gaza-idf-reporting/ Interesting read.
  17. Yes of course, but people can be swayed by more emotive issues. Look at the last general election. Labour were making it absolutely clear that they were "for the many, not for the few" in terms of economy. But got thumped on emotive issues. (I also know that many didn't 'trust' him with the economy... but that was based more on a smear campaign than anthing else) I'm not saying you're wrong, and clearly things have worsened since then. But I wouldn't say it's clear cut. For example: https://www.statista.com/statistics/886366/issues-facing-britain/ You're absolutely right that the major concern is the economy with 50% But this also means to the other 50% that it wasn't. 50% economy 44% Health 39% Immigration. Some people (myself included) would prioritise other concerns because I have no faith that either party is going to make much difference to the economy. My main priority is that I hate the recent conservative rhetoric of trying to blame the vulnerable for their own catastrophic failures. I think they are on a very dangerous course of causing civil unrest, and need to be gone. Even if it means I have to pay more tax for the next decade. Of course I understand that not everyone thinks like me, and maybe I'm foolish to think that anyone other than those in my circle of friends do think the same.. I hope that makes a little sense, even if you disagree?
  18. I think you'd be surprised. Most people would have no idea about how the different party policies would affect the "price of bread".
  19. Stephen King. Misery. ‘Hobbling’ as a means to prevent an unwanted departure.

    Clément Lenglet

Definitely Emi’s mistake IMO. But no need to dwell on it. He more than made up for it with his other saves.
