  1. We really did... I cant remember a time we have bullied a so called "bigger club" so emphatically... Yeah, we have had our moments and our scalps of "Big clubs"... But at the age of 36? I cant remember ever seeing Villa completely maul a team like tonight...
  2. The great thing about Barkley is.... He has been there and done it to a much higher level than most of our squad... so he walks in immediately... Hourihane WILL understand because he is a professional... But the key thing is... Grealish got SOOOOO much more space and freedom tonight... Most times I have seen him play? He gets mobbed... Teams cant afford to do that anymore... Not now we have a bit of class in the side
  3. I was ever so upset with this chap once... The year after Leicester won the title... I put a bet on that they would get relegated... Ranieri was looking to make me quids in... Then he got the sack... and Shakespeare turned Leicester around... Cost me a nice pocketful of cash.... He had a key role to play in Watfords storm up the table before their eventual relegation... We have an absolute gemstone.... He won the Holy Grail of domestic titles with a club that JUST ABOUT avoided relegation the previous season in what will easily go down as the greatest of "David vs Goliath"/"The little guy wins" sporting achieved ever (it could only ever be compared to Greece winning the Euros)... He is one of us... Deano is one of us... Jack is one of us... and we have just turned over one of the most dominant league (and world) champions in club football 7-bloody-2 Happy days guys and girls! I'm over the moon he is with us!
  4. Nah... they both do that to be fair... And you know how I know
  5. Utd fans on social media spitting feathers that they can't just bend clubs over and grease them up for their star players anymore... It's ever so refreshing!
  6. Cheers Jota! Helped us get rid of Gardener MK II, set up Wesley with a peach of a throiugh ball for his first goal for us... Just didnt work out in the long run... Safe travels matey!
  7. Not just our manager... Our manager, assistant head coach and our captain and talisman... All Villa born and bred... Its looking far more positive than it was 2 years ago
  8. Result! Mane has been diagnosed with Covid so is in isolation for 2 weeks!
  9. Wouldn't you be? Almost singlehandedly carried his team over the survival finish line last year... was promised investment and progression... and has seen that come to fruition with the addition of someone he knows as a fellow player and a close friend... The additions of Traore, Martinez and Barkley from teams in regular European competition are a real statement of intent... plus Matty Cash who has been absolutely fantastic so far... Jack might have a bit more room to manouvere and show what he has got to offer now that opposition players know they cant just triple mark him as there are other quality players in the Villa squad they have to keep an eye on Its a very exciting time to be a Villa fan
  10. What days they were... and yes, that is sarcasm
  11. I think I have said this before on another thread... but I can't believe he is only 26/27 He has been around for donkeys years! I expected him to be in his 30s by now!
  12. So this chap comes in and we sign some belting players... Makes you wonder what the bloody hell Suso was up to? I imagine Dean Smith gave him a selection of players he wanted and Suso thought he knew better and tried to get some cheaper equivalents off of Wish!
  13. Is it permanent or on loan? Aside from chat on Villa Talk, this is well out of the blue... Obviously chuffed though!
  14. McGinn MOTM for me... Referee had a right mare... Was doing a "Dowd" by not sticking to the letter of the law and trying to keep as many Fulham players on the pitch as possible, regardless of how many fouls they committed... How they finished the game with 11 men on the pitch I will never know...
  15. Referee is doing a Dowd Trying to find any excuse not to book or send off their players
  16. https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/aston-villa/2019/05/27/dean-smith-the-emotion-came-over-me-at-the-sight-of-my-family/ You can tell his dad was a big, big influence on him and his love for the Villa... Must have been really difficult for him and his family when his father died during the lockdown and pandemic etc and people were getting on his back and calling for his head (Shamefully, I will hold my hands up, myself included - but at the time, I didnt realise his dad had passed away) He got us promoted, kept us up and has brought some actually really good looking players to the squad over this difficult summer... Watkins, Traore and Martinez have all had their chance to show us what they bring to the team... and I think its fair to say, although its early doors, they have certainly added a thing or two... Its fair to say, I like Dean Smith... I think the rebuild of last summer when we appeared to buy any old to plug gaps due to players leaving made a lot of people question what the bloody hell Smith was doing... but he and the whole management/coaching/scouting staff got it done, and now we have been able to add a bit more quality... On a side note, I reckon the signing of Craig Shakespeare will prove to be an absolute masterstroke... Thats just my opinion, of course
  17. HAHAHA! Go on Newcastle and VAR! Got to love football sometimes!
  18. I'm hoping after his very encouraging display against Bristol that Traore can finally take some of the pressure off of Jack and give opposition players someone else to think about. I know it was against Bristol City, in the "least valuable" cup competition, but he certainly added a lot of flair and gave the opposition something to think about... Correct me if I am wrong, but a lot of our attacking movement in that game came through him... and his goal (whether it was intentional or not) was lush... Can't wait to see what else he can bring to the squad when playing with the first team!
  19. Could he be the fabled "Fox in the Box" we have been looking for?
  20. I’m getting that idea too... ”That little bit of class” is unfortunately an overused phrase in football commentary/punditry... but Traoré seems to actually offer us exactly that
  21. Thought Davies caused them trouble and opened them up a bit in the last period of the game. He might not score goals, but he keeps defenders busy
