  1. It is obvious that any money spent on a player(s) that is not performing could have been spent better! As no club board/manager has ever acheived 100% success in that area, surely the important fact is the ratio of successes against failures, not just stating that money spent on a player, who turned out to be poorer than expected, was a waste.
  2. Hindsight management is very easy. Are there many managers with a good 'hit:miss' ratio on a relatively low budget for top league football? Most would acknowledge the success of buying Benteke, and failure of buying KEA, but I suggest another season is required before most would know whether the likes of Westwood, Lowton and others were good, decent or poor purchases. Even with the benefit of hindsight, I'd be happy not to bother highlighting a failure, provided it was accompanied with one obvious success and one arguable success.
  3. It would be great if the current European U-19s Champions team produced just a couple of adult players who are capable of competing well in the top half of the Premier League. If not, I'm still very proud of my youth team's achievement and I have gained some much needed enjoyment from it. The performance of the first team will always be paramount but the club's success does not begin and stop with the older players.
  4. How does defending Paul Lambert equate to lowering expectations, happy or otherwise? Some claim that staying up would be a remarkable achievement. That's lowering expectations. I clearly remember the attitude on here at the end of the summer transfer window and there weren't many predicting a relegation battle. But in order to defend Lambert expectations have had to be lowered. I hope we do well, but having seen us be relegated, threaten relegation, win cups and challenge for the titles, all in relatively close seasons, I don't 'expect' anything - since the best part of 20 years ago. Whether I choose to acknowledge how difficult the job was and how relative that is to the progress (or lack) of the team is nothing to do with lowering expectations. Stating such is incorrect.

  6. Convertables, full stop. Impractical in so many ways in the UK. Even somewhere hot and sunny, I'd end up putting the roof up to stop me from burning and get the air-con on. They are great for the 'look at me!' brigade though.
  7. This is a real bug bear of mine aswell. I had one the other night. "Off out in Telford with the wolfpack" - Hey "xxxx" can you bring round your iPhone charger tomorrow? You could just not use Facebook. Why feel the need to inform others what you are doing anyway? Over the past year, a few of my friends have bitched about their Facebook, I reminded them that it's not compulsary. The two women confessed they enjoy the 'issues' it brings (well don't moan about it then!). The two blokes ended up ditching Facebook.
  8. Brad Guzan on Eastenders or Coronation Street - "watched five minutes and then had to turn it off". I didn't think my opinion of him could go any higher!
  9. The player is clearly a massive Abba fan. I remember Villa's right back, Dave Nelson, who went through a similar phase in the late 1990's.
  10. Between 'if's, 'think', 'see', 'somebody' and totally unknown contract offers, I don't think CI knows.
  11. Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon and the winners of the Arsenal v CSKA Moscow match on Monday.
  12. My lad and I enjoyed the game sat in the North Stand. The atmosphere was helped by a coach load of Olympiakos fans who sung for the whole 90! I was concerned our superiority would be punished when we failed to put away a number of chances in the second half and only a stoppage time goal line clearance prevented extra time. A deserved win. Well done lads!

  14. Virtually any manager who followed McLeish would have more tolerance shown to him. I expect the reverse will happen to SAF's successor. Context isn't surprising.

    Relegation

Without boring everyone in discussing how likely or unlikely it was, I think most of us would take the above scenario at this time.
  16. You could say the same about us, we've been close to going down last 2 seasons I'm sure Rodders knows that but why would he say it? mostly out of rather them than us tbh. Sorry Rodders, I didn't put it clearly. I was questioning Jim why anyone would say it was time for us to go down, as he had pointed out.

  18. That gives us a chance then. I wish I was paid to guess that things will continue as they are.
  19. But they **** up at home to the scummers last week. If they'd have won it would have been a different picture at thye bottom. Come on Hull Hull 3-0
  20. Often a team or two, who were previously on mid-table form, get dragged in to the relegation issue. Conversely, there is often a team or two who, despite their previously rubbish form, pick up unexpected points. We just need to hope that team is us!
  21. Has Pistorius been asked exactly why he thought it was an intruder instead of the other person he knew was in the house (but apparently wasn't sure where she was at that moment)? Pistorius said he shouted at the person before firing his gun. Wouldn't his girlfriend have replied and thus identified herself? I can only imagine hearing a noise from my ensuite at 3am and me shouting "Oi burglar, F*UCK OFF!" Only to hear a bemused reply from my wife - "Go back to bed love, I'm having a wee". These things must work differently south of the equator.
  22. I've received an email detailing an event this Friday evening: Hope for Georgia The Slug and Lettuce Bromsgrove is Supporting the Charity Set up for a very young girl, Georgia… Georgia and her family need to raise money for Stem Cell Treatment that unfortunately can not happen in England. We have a fantastic evening of Live Music from Paradise Forum… A Band that recently Played for the Aston Villa Kit Launch Party. We also have 3 ex Aston Villa Player Legends coming down to Support the Night and will be around for fan photographs and signings. To also Help raise money we are hosting a Raffle from donating businesses including Block 98, Passion4Dance, Elite Performing Arts, Profiles Hair and Beauty, The Dolphin Centre and Many More. Raffle Tickets are £5 a strip and all monies raised goes to the Charity. This is a night definitely not to be missed and the support and kindness from our customers will help to make this a fantastic night. http://www.slugandlettuce.co.uk/bromsgrove/events/view/207503/hope-for-georgia'>Click here for details. I don't know who the ex-Villa players will be but the lead singer of Paradise Forum is Peter Withe's son, which may, or may not be a clue. I fancy a few beers on Friday night, so I'll be there. Hopefully some of you will be there to help make it a decent Villa night (for a change!)
