  1. Despite all their possession and creative play in the first half, City's goals were not anything great, especially the first. As for our offside goal, swings and roundabouts, some decisions have already gone against us this season. After we equalised the second time, i thought they looked bereft of ideas, though I was still half expecting a late sucker punch. And United beaten and in 12th!!! My day is complete.
  2. How the hell did that happen. Comprehensively outplayed but won!!!
  3. Agreed. Think the entire team was picked with City in mind.
  4. Not right now. Is he worth giving game time in regards to career development? Yes. Know what you mean, but Given is an excellent nr.2, also on a big salary and possibly with us for a few more years. Would it have been better for Steer to continue his development on loan at a lower league club?
  5. Is Jed Steer better than Shay Given?
  6. I like Lambert, though he has not yet proven himself as a manager, and I also think Lerner is a decent enough owner, well-meaning but prone to mistakes, perhaps gullible or naive. However, I think from next season we need to be spending more on a better level of player. It is, after all, possible to buy better, if more expensive, `young and hungry' players.
  7. I am a strong believer in loaning out our young players to battle-harden them. All the `big' teams do it.
  8. Very much in agreement with this. The timing could have been much worse. And this will show if we really are a one man team, because if this is the case it will have to be addressed next summer. No way of knowing if this is the case without testing it over several actual games. For what it is worth, I have always thought Kozak was back up for Benteke and not his replacement. However, Kozak has his chance now.
  9. Thought Lowton was excellent last season, but seems to have lost confidence this season. Perhaps it is the arrival of Bacuna, although Bacuna is not a dedicated right back. Lowton was nailed on to start every game last season, barring injury, but something has definitely knocked him back.
  10. This is the one signing that baffled me at the time and still does. His stats at the time of buying were not great, and I have seen nothing yet to suggest that he is good enough for the Premiership. Do not want to be unfair on him as he puts in plenty of effort and hopefully he might be able to forge a decent career in the lower divisions.
  11. He was terrific in the Nextgen. And no matter about the score, just to get on the Villa Park pitch for the first team must have been fantastic for him, as it would be for any young player. As has been said above, it is what they strive to achieve and probably a moment that will stay with him for a long time.
  12. This was the signing I was most excited about.
  13. He still only provides the occasional decent corner. He needs to mix it up a bit more, and sometimes put in those dangerous flat fast corners that are so difficult to defend. He is a professional footballer, as the designated corner taker, you would think he would practice them or do something to ensure that he provides our strikers with more and better opportunities. Too many sail right over their heads. Yesterday proved that if you get a decent ball in to them, our guys will score.
  14. Certainly has not looked as good this season so far.
  15. Very much agree with this.
  16. When will Lambert realise that four up front is an awful idea. It leaves the team completely unbalanced, with absolutely no shape. Looks amateurish. But even before that, it was a very poor performance. Delph was the pick of the bunch, but thought Vlaar and Clark did well.
  17. I think MON might do a decent job for Ireland. I have thought for some time that he would be better suited to be an international manager. He is limited as a manager, as we know, but might very well get the Irish team to a decent level.
  18. As this is our home pitch, you would think that the team would be trained to exploit its' size. Did they not replicate this on the training pitch, or did that just apply to the surface and not the size. Obviously it depends on the ability of the players, but you would think it would give us some advantage.
  19. Ireland are certainly in need of some good young players to come through, and we seem to have several here at Villa.
  20. So in a strange way, he's the only purchased footballer in our team that you are being realistic about, because in reality those ones are all the same. He just happens to have the footballing ability that allows him to flaunt his temporary-ness (my word, you can use it). Realistically, any footballer in our team, purchased or otherwise, I know would move on to a better club, given the talent and the opportunity. But you are correct, his ability allows him to be more blatent about his intentions.
  21. I have never really connected with Benteke, almost feel the same way about him as I would about a loan player. I think it is because he has made it very clear, unlike any of the other players who may hold the same ambition, but for the moment profess undying love for Lambert's vision, that he is definitely only here for as short a time as possible. Wonderful asset, mind you, financially and on the field.
  22. There must be more to Paul Faulkner than is apparent. He has a genial, open, almost boyish, look about him, but to get where he has at a young age there must be some steel about him. Not to be under estimated. He would have had a steep learning curve. I am sure I read that someone said that he was a guy who gets things done. Also, does he not have a family footballing connection with Norwich?
  23. Northern Ireland, Ireland, Benteke - the choice is endless.
  24. Slightly surprised that Villa did not get rid of a player who is clearly surplus to requirements. Of course the loan offers might be derisory, but even so, unless there is something lined up for this week, surely better that he is elsewhere.
