  1. "Hand held in black and white" - Dollar. Very percussive number, think Trevor Horn produced it. As a rule couldn't stand 'em but must add that the blonde piece (Theresa summat) does look rather rude.
  2. I have just read the most awful news since I heard Liberace was gay. It says in The Birmingham Mail that Trevor Francis supports Warwickshire ! !
  3. "You've lost that loving feeling" - Daryl Hall and John Oates.
  4. Well that's that; Warks definitely safe and have managed to relegate Surrey. Couldn't happen to a nicer County e.g. one that contains both Batty and Pieterson. Sorry if I have upset someone on here who I think supports Surrey. Now for next season; I see PaulC was right - we won't get Willey; he has signed a new contract. Will be glad to see Chris Wright back but next season could be difficult especially if we lose Boyd Rankin to England. Oh - just Derbyshire away to come.
  5. I see that the multi-talented Bob Geldof can afford the $100,000 to be the first Irishman ins space. Although it would be an enormous loss to music is there any chance that it could be one way.
  6. Ay - you might be right, We might also need an all-rounder to replace the excellent (IMO) Darren Maddy. I have just the player - David Willey at Northants; surely he would come to a 'bigger' club. But don't forget this is coming from the bloke who thought James Taylor was a cert for us ( and didn't rate Sir Ron Saunders when he was appointed )
  7. So PaulC, if it was your decision would you look to keep Maurice Chambers , assuming Warks had the option ?
  8. And has just signed another 12 month contract with Warks I believe !
  9. Funny thing is they make exceptional road cycling tyres. Hmm - possibly but you need muscles like Arnie to get their tubs on to the rim. Pressures seem to wear quite though if you have 'folders'. We had Contis on our Clio; they cost a fortune if you replaced them with the same tyre, had the spec for a Formula 1 car (totally unwarranted) and didn't last very long at all. Do Audi use Contis on all their range then ?

According to The Daily Mail, the loathsome Michael Gove "raged at the Tory rebels" and shouted that they were a 'disgrace'; it reports that Gove is an advocate of military action. And this is one of the individuals touted to replace Cameron. God help us if that happened.
  11. Was going to put this in the Rotherham Match thread but it may be OT .... great picture of Ian Bell in Villa top holding the Ashes urn in last nights programme.
  12. For some reason my wife doesn't like me watching The History Channel, even though I am subjected to hours of cookery programmes and people buying houses that we couldn't ever afford. I don't know if she thinks I'm blood-thirsty or just morbid but I've learnt stacks from it ;we never studied WW11 as it had only just finished !!! Didn't realise Hugo Boss was involved in the Nazi uniforms (even though I think it was mentioned on here recently), didn't realise the Nazis recruited muslims from Albania into their ranks' presumably because of their dislike for Jews and didn't realise how advanced the Germans were in creating synthetic oil as their main supply was from Romania. Think I've got all that right anyway.
  13. Indeed; I take that point but....children may have different attitudes to this and feel more 'comfortable' at their present school and thus achieve better results; all subjective I realise. I had this situation with my own; I wanted her to go to a 6th Form College within another local school because it had better results, possibly by pushing the children harder. As it happens, she achieved the grades for Leicester but if she had gone to the other place she may have got into Nottingham - which is where she really wanted to go. ('cos it was near Rock City !!!!) Eames - No point contacting the LEA I don't think - her school is now an Academy and I don't think the LEA has a say - not certain about that though. Best of luck on your bike ride btw - CNP bars are the way forward. This was not really intended to be blatantly political but it does strike me that teachers have become the new miners and are in danger of being treated in the same way - hence 'repulsive'.
  14. chrisp65 - that was exactly my (teacher) nipper's comment ! Many of the pupils don't want to change school but it appears such considerations are not important to this repulsive Government.
  15. Anyone have children who are moving on to study 'A' Levels ? Here is a nice little move from our Conservative friends. My nipper is a teacher in Tamworth and is sweating on the top line for her pupil's GCSE results - which I think are imminent. So I asked if she taught 'A' Level ? 'No' was the reply , Our school no longer offers 'A' Levels; if a pupil wants to pursue 'A' Levels they must go to the local college" Anyone any experience of this;it has already resulted in redundancies at the school. Now, of course, it could be that the local College offers a much higher standard of teaching; but is there just a chance it is because F.E. staff are often on short term contracts and at lower rates than main stream teaching staff. Surely not ! ?
  16. Todd Rundgren you say. Try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMyneh_5ooI&feature=share&list=PL510001392AE0013A We didn't get this 'Live from Daryl's House over here but I reckon it would be pretty tasty.
  17. Well James Taylor could come into the reckoning now but my greatest fear is that the selectors will look at Varun Chopra. A superb player IMO and Warks won't want to lose him this season !
  18. Missed Worcs match 'cos missus was at work but watched it on Sky. Glad to see they referred to 'The City End' as just that and not 'The Birmingham End'. Lined up for Tuesday now - this could be a cracker. Anyone know why Keith Barker isn't playing ?
  19. I don't know if anyone watched 'The Big Bash' in Australia earlier in the year but there was an Aussie batsman called Luke Pomersbach who looked pretty good I thought. In fact so good, I'd even have him for Warwickshire . If there are any Aussie based Vter's here what do you know about him - is he perhaps more of a one-day player ?
  20. I only worked (part-time) in a prison for some 6 years and that was in prison education not as an officer. It so happens that it was the same one that RJW63's relations work; but I never spoke to them; some officers were suspicious of Education staff since one teacher was caught bringing in drugs & alcohol ! In my time there I never witnessed or heard of any officer touching/detaining a prisoner without damn good reason; indeed I remember one instance where they went out of their way to save one who was attempting suicide. I saw several instances of prisoners being 'twisted up' as the prisoners used to call it and this was usually for disobeying an instruction. I got the impression that officers erred on the side of caution rather than adopt a 'gung-ho' attitude to prisoners. It is just my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who has butchered another human being to death in cold blood might not be particularly compliant.
  21. Great day of sport all round. England win first Test, Warwickshire beat Glos in T20 and (OT I realise) - Froome wins TdF stage. Now hope Warks can continue good run of form against Notts starting tomorrow - wife is preparing lunch for it as I speak ! Hey PaulC - can you say what that forum is that you run please. Cheers
  22. very much needed it You can say that again ! But ,as you mentioned in an earlier post, Surrey and Derbys look a fair bit worse than us.
  23. Sod The Ashes; main news is that Warwickshire won !!
  24. I don't know if the commentator has ever raced or even been involved with the club scene in the UK but he plainly doesn't know why Dan Martin chose to take out an Irish licence. Didn't he describe him as "Irish with West Midlands connections" or something like that. Don't know if he was borne in Tamworth (or was it Brum) but certainly lived there before becoming pro and was in C.C. Giro, a Sutton based club (I think). Sounds like just sucking up to Kelly to me. His mother is Irish so quite entitled to race for either country but the reasons are quite complex.
