  1. Was going to mention Chick Corea. His fusion band of the early 70's (Return to Forever) was packed with ace musos. It featured the great Stanley Clarke, probably on of the best bass players ever and an early "slapper" - first I saw to use a Kramer bass. Ace drummer Lenny White; listen to his version of Lady Madonna (a Beatles number !!!). Don't think we will see the likes of Mr Corea again. Saw them on OGWT - amazing !
  2. Brilliant result ; I didn't think England stood a chance the way India have been playing. It is obvious that the victory was mainly down to the great Jeetan Patel (ex Warks) being the spin bowling coach

    Sleep Aids

I think you will find anything written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber will do the trick. All their stuff is fairly soporific !
  4. Apart from that loud-mouthed Northern monkey who thinks he is a 3rd rate Working Men's club comedian. Seems to think he is more important than the players ! (and is anti Warwickshire - read Dermot Reeve's book!!)
  5. I once played with a bloke, Dave Ball, who had a 'proper' Les Paul he bought from Paul Kossoff.
  6. Hmm, would a Gibson Les Paul really cheer people up - -or is there something I have missed
  7. As a former (not very good) drummer, I am mainly interested in watching great drummers. However , also appreciate great guitarists/bassists etc; most of my favourite guitarists are relatively unknow American session players. The likes of Louie Shelton, Dean Parkes ,Jay Graydon et al. However, on of my favourite English guitarists was Robert Fripp - he of King Crimson. So , with that in mind , here is a recent clip - my eyes were immediately drawn to that very nice Gibson Les Paul !!!!!!!

    80s Party!

Absolutely right ; that is , until The Beatles came along !!!!!!!
  9. Bland and MOR - Heresy !!! It has Steve Gadd on it
  10. https://youtu.be/V7dg8vRDM68 Just been listening to this whilst spending time on turbo trainer (sort of static bike). It is slightly more mind numbing than watching Ant and Dec. Does this number count as Jazz ? NB Steve Gadd on drums !!!!
  11. Not my cup of tea at all. Could possibly compared with Joe Meek.
  12. You may be right; "Steppin Out" off that iconic John Mayall LP, the band I played in at the time (Titus Oates - never famous !) used to play that together with "Hideaway" from the same LP. We also played another Beck number which was called Tallyman - virtually unknown but always seemed to go down well. Our guitarist practised that stuff for hours ! (Gibson 330 I think he had).
  13. Another one from my era gone. First came across Carmine Appice when he was in Vanilla Fudge - ace drummer I thought. Probably in the minority, but thought Jeff Beck was better than Clapton - even though a huge Cream fan at the time - saw' em live about 4 times. Check out Jeff Beck playing 'A day in the Life' live - Ronnie Scotts I think - then compare and contrast with .... " Wonderful Tonight" (dirge)and " Lay Down Sally"(trite).
  14. One that slipped under the radar - Michael McKevitt, founder of "The Real IRA" died of cancer 02/01/21. Anyone shedding tears for him I wonder ?
  15. No, it is no surprise seeing as it is the BBC. He kept us up for one season when Villa were in the 2nd Division. Signed Chico Hamilton and Pat McMahon and Bruce Rioch (I think). Used to come onto the pitch in a sheepskin coat and walk over to the Witton Lane stand where they sat on benches (from memory). Kids used to run on the pitch to greet him. Villa were red hot favourites to go up next season. Instead lost 0 - 1 to Norwich in the first match and spiralled down to be relegated . "Where somebody waits for me; what's his name DOCHERTY" RIP
  16. Was in TESCO yesterday and the little old lady in front of me was about to pay her bill; it was £18.90. She suddenly says to the cashier, "I cant find my purse, I think it has been stolen". So, in the spirit of Christmas I said, " Come on .let me help" Oh thank" you she says. And within 15 minutes I'd got all her stuff back on the shelves.
  17. Interesting. One could start a whole new thread on loudest bass ! Never thought Bruce was that loud with either Graham Bond or Cream so my vote would go to either Lemmy or Bootsy Collins !
  18. Was that at B/ham Town Hall by any chance - Tony Williams on drums ?
  19. Leslie West, good rock guitarist with 'Mountain' died aged 75. Mississippi Queen - great rock number IMO.
  20. Referred to as 'heads' these days !!
  21. Please forward this to U2 and Oasis.
  22. Near Lichfield - in South Pennine club based just outside Burton. Have decided to stop racing open time trials as :- since breaking my hip and having a metal pin inserted, I have lost a lot of power on that side and .. I was never any good anyway . Used to ride that K33/D your way - not a fast course but fairly safe. TT bike - a Pinarello Montello - an ex GB team frame. Road bike - elderly Dogma + Sestriere winter bike. There is dealer for those CERO wheels not far from me in Barton U Needwood - Cycle Division; they are nice wheels aren't they ?
  23. Redditch Road and Path - a good old established club. Couple of Vets from that club race in Time trials that I stagger 'round Halesowen - big club now- having the track. Think they have a good Youth Programme. What road bike do you have ? Incidentally, I think SRAM were/are very inventive in Bluetooth connection; don't know if you have that ?
  24. Is that SRAM or the fishing tackle people l What club are you in ?
  25. Yep, also at Juve match; what a team and what a player he was. I went to a Lions Club 'do' some time after that match; Tony Barton declared that a certain Villa player had been told to man mark him from the moment the game kicked off. Much to Barton's annoyance the player didn't and Rossi scored !
