  1. It really wasn't the game for him tbh but with Ramsey out, we were short of options. Tielemans has a very specific skillset that is skewed towards technical, attacking play in lieu of physical athleticism, and when you combine that with a ref who lets the opposition just kick the crap out of our players time and again, it really doesn't work out for Youri.
  2. His touch was a little off but Ajax were defending very well all night, doubling and tripling up on our wide threats. It was not easy.
  3. It was a very intimidating atmosphere and he was pressed very intensely over the course of the evening - he did fine, really. Obviously he has areas of his game to work on, namely his off-the-ball work when we are in possession, because I felt he was a bit too static and not offering an option as much as Kamara does. Youngsters need to learn and if Emery believes he has that capacity then we need to stick with him.
  4. Like Tim, starting and a big night. A great opportunity to show us what he can do.
  5. Starting! Big night for the lad. Go on Tim!
  6. I think we might see Nedeljkovic sooner rather than later.
  7. If development goes well, I imagine that'll be Tim and Nedeljkovic.
  8. I would imagine this summer will be relatively quiet tbf. We don't need any big signings and really should be focused on the cohesion of the squad we have already (plus integrating the new players in).
  9. It is unfortunately the choice that makes the most sense given his relative importance to the team compared to others, plus how much money we'd get, plus how it'd be all profit. He's not integral like, say, Luiz, Martinez, Watkins or Torres and we'd be able to get a very good whack for him. Football's about more than business though and it'd feel horrible to have to sell him given his profile as a local villa-fan lad who came up through the youth system etc. I don't think we'll have to sell any of these anyway and this thread is just typical Villa fan doom-porn.
  10. Was it you I used to tag every week when he went on that scoring run last season?
  11. He's a project - that's why he didn't cost that much money. Saw plenty of good things yesterday but Luton are essentially Championship level, so it's not really anything new for him. He also committed one of the most cynical yet hilarious challenges I've seen in a while and somehow didn't get booked for it
  12. What is it, Tegis? I decided to give Dimple Golden Selection ago and it's very underwhelming.
  13. Yeah, absolutely worlds apart from today, really. That's not a slur on any of the players back then, just different times as you say. RE: Wilson, the point about physical readiness is one that hasn't changed. Regardless of how good you are, you have to be able to keep up with it. It's very encouraging that Wilson can read the game from an attacking perspective, as that is something that just doesn't come naturally to many and will likely serve him and hopefully us, well.
  14. Tougher paper rounds in those day tbf Already looked in his 30s
  15. Except for teeing up Newcastle with an error in the box. Learning curve, though, and that's why he's there. It bodes well that he could hang with premier league opposition for 120 minutes.
  16. If he carries on this form, he's worth 100k a week in this market. It doesn't get you what it used to.

Tbf it's quite outside the realm that we dare to dream of

Could you imagine how good we'd be if we had everyone fit and firing?
  19. It really is - he just sees and executes in such a fluid motion, often with just one touch to play the pass - and we're away.
  20. This would be the perfect time for him to come into form tbf. And yes, you're right, that ability to drive with the ball is something we've missed and is a very useful outlet.
  21. It is a lot, but that's the reality of the situation if we want quality players who we know are good enough. A lot of it will depend on whether we're CL next season tbf.
  22. I was wondering who the last CM we had that did better than this in the prem, and it looks like Gareth Barry's 2007/08 season was it - he notched 9 goals and 13 assists in all comps. I'll be very surprised if Dougie doesn't beat 22 goal contributions before the end of the season.
