  1. Am currently taking a poo in peace whilst my 18 month old sleeps and my four year old plays a learning game on the iPad (daycare shut this week for holidays). It's bliss. Toys are a crap shoot - everything my oldest liked, my youngest has no interest. Tried everything from charity shop stuff to $500 Pickler Triangle. The key for us has been storage. Have 8-12 things for each kid in reach and tidy (so they know where it is) and rotate those things out, swapping one or two every week or so with stuff from the storage bins (that they can't see or access). We soon learnt what was "for keeps", and the fun of getting the train set (or whatever) out for the first time in months is something they love. Also unrelated but we have cameras in every room they have normal access to, so that means you can keep an eye on them while you flip the laundry or whatever. Just cheap Amazon IP cams, but they have made our life way easier. Your milage may vary since all kids are different.
  2. The problem with this line of thinking is that it can be used to justify any decision by the manager, even if the outcome is less than successful. Would you apply the same logic to the decision to not drop Coutinho in favour of Buendia during the latter handful of games last season?
  3. You are Carney Chukwuemeka and I claim my five pounds.
  4. I don't live in the UK anymore but went back recently for the first time in about ten years. The one thing that surprised me was the prevalence of cheap coke. It seemed like people were doing it everywhere and in scenarios (saw a few at Sunday pub lunch) that made no sense unless you're an addict. I'm with you in that it blows (pun intended) my mind that people want to do coke at a game, though to be fair I'm old now so anything more than a couple of beers is out of my world. But in my day cheap coke was all cut with speed (or so I'm told) and the idea of having a bunch of morons on amphetamines in a crowd is a recipe for disaster. I'm not saying that coke isn't terrible, but speed is even worse. I do have nostalgia for the days of celebratory pitch invasions, but that was in the 80s and 90s which had their own problems, so maybe it's just my selective memory. Tl;dr, ban pitch invasions, punish everyone, have sirens on the urinals that detect the devil's dandruff.
  5. It also has the added bonus of being a The Wire cast reunion. Genuinely one of the best things I've seen in the last year or two. Can't recommend it enough. Unless you didn't like The Wire, in which case you're dead to me anyway.
  6. This would have legs if SG didn't explicitly state in an interview that it's because he hasn't signed a contract.
  7. There's one for the " players you've forgotten about" thread. And he's SG's cousin, so our manager had a front row seats for that fiasco...
  8. Yeah, this one came from a podcast (MOMS I think) where one of the hosts knows him or is a friend of a friend. Said that he wasn't where he wanted to be in terms of fitness until March. Obviously I can't offer much in terms of the veracity of that statement. Guess we'll see this season - or at least the first half of it.
  9. I think we can call this a disagreement on the definition of victim blaming otherwise we'll end up going in circles. I can see your side of it but I don't agree. I think the opposite is also true and we've both made our points pretty clearly. Glad she signed a new contract - will be interesting to see what Dougie does in Jan.
  10. Three things: 1. I think he'll have a big season - by some accounts wasn't up to full fitness until March and still had more goals + assists than anyone else. 2. Even if he doesn't start, having Watkins run a defence ragged then being able to bring Ings on is a weapon we haven't had on the bench since... 3. This thread was on page 3, below Luis **** Suarez, which doesn't make sense in any universe.
  11. From one of many sources that say the same thing: "Victim blaming can be defined as someone saying, implying, or treating a person who has experienced harmful or abusive behaviour like it was a result of something they did or said, instead of placing the responsibility where it belongs: on the person who harmed them." I don't know how you can read that, and also read things like "if you can't stand the heat" or "easy targets should steer clear" and call it anything else.
  12. Easy to say that when a large portion of your income doesn't depend on it. I remember in the 80's (and later) when non-white players where basically told "you'll never stamp racism out of football, if you don't like the heat...". It took decades of people standing up and being counted - it was (and still is) very slow progress but at least some steps by police, the FA, clubs and other fans are now a lot more apparent. I bold other fans because as much as holding offenders to account is important, it's the en-masse (albeit slow) shifting of attitudes that has probably had the biggest effect. Now if you hear racism during a game in the stands or in a pub there's a strong chance that person will at the very least get called out or told to shut up. The difference with social media is that if pressure is there, and it is applied by enough people in enough places, there absolutely are algorithms that could help identify offenders, ban the user, ban an IP (I know, I'm behind 7 proxies, etc), ban an associated email address or phone number. In the world of 2FA, you have to link an account with a device, and that makes it harder to create new accounts. Honestly I think if you just make it a little bit hard you'll get rid of 90% of it. I don't agree with "she should leave if she can't handle it" any more than I think she shouldn't wear a skirt if she wants to in case she gets cat-called in real life. I think the fact that she's staying and speaking out is not something she should be obligated - to do but it is brave. If she chose to leave that's again her decision, but the more people talk about this problem, the more likely something is to change.
  13. I agree with all of this with the exception that unless people are saying really terrible things about him, people posting that he's taking bad advice or he's got ideas above his station isn't offside at all - especially on a forum for his current team. No need for people to be nasty but I get why people would think he's gone full Big Time Charlie after barely kicking a ball outside of age group football. Whether that's true or not is a matter for speculation - which is why we're here and why we have 404 pages of discussion on Milot Rashica.
  14. Fair enough - I think we're talking around the same tiny points of minutia, but I don't know if we disagree on much in actuality. Let's just say we're both right and have a beer.
  15. Juvenile? Unlike painting your face, wearing a shirt to watch millionaires kick a ball on TV, shouting at the ref through said TV, singing songs about ball-kicking millionaires like they're battle heroes, etc, etc, etc. The whole thing isn't exactly a celebration of logic and maturity. Wind your neck in man.
  16. 1. I don't think there's much "hatred". Maybe from a few but I'd say it's mostly disappointment, disagreement or dissatisfaction. Or one of the other disses. 2. I don't think him not signing a contract and the manager leaving it at home from the preseason tour for this exact reason is "just another irrational idea". No-one on here knows for sure, but if you make a list of the top 3 reasons for what's happening, him not wanting to be here for some reason (money, appearances, wants bigger club) would probably be two of the three. If you think otherwise, we'd love to hear other rational explanations.
  17. So you're saying people aren't allowed to dislike a player because he wants to leave? Aren't allowed to question the decision? That's how I feel about the NHL draft - but only because I give zero shits about hockey.
  18. She probably makes the majority of her money from social media related stuff. But yeah, when people abuse her she should just switch it off and forget about those earning like we all would.
  19. Those two things aren't the same. People are saying get rid because he doesn't want to be here. His new club will welcome him because he does want to be there. When my ex was cheating on me with a guy she ended up marrying, I didn't (at the time at least) say "well you can't question her attitude - people change relationships all the time and she deserves to be happy".
  20. The grammar police is going to disagree.
  21. Maybe. He’s looked very comfortable. Really makes you wonder about the captain - you want someone who is one of the first names on the team sheet. Right now we have Emi M, Cash, Digne and Kamara who you would bet would start games if fit. I guess add Carlos too. Given that I don’t love having a keeper as captain that makes it a tough call.
  22. Not a great look. Only a friendly but they haven’t exactly done inspiring business. Side note - as someone who resides in North America but didn’t grow up here, referring to teams in the singular (Minnesota is beating Everton) is something I’ll never make peace with. It makes my whole body wince. It’s just wrong. Like single ply toilet paper or James Corden. It just shouldn’t be a thing.
