  1. Yes, there is journalism and "reporting". Quite different from one another. I knew someone who worked for a scumbag national newspaper named after the centre of our solar system. Whilst surprised when he told me all stories were put through three legal teams, I wasn't surprised to learn that most the stories were written in "high journalism" language as befitting their qualifications, but then dumbed down by sub-editors to tabloid language. No surprise either that he said the only thing fabricated were celebrity gossip (a photo of two people stood near each other can be speculated on) and transfer rumours (total speculation).
  2. I came here expecting to see the club had been wowed so much by the Bentancur thread, that they'd recruited some new scouts from it.
  3. Some players don’t need to run around like a clearing in the woods, because they have the brain to read the game and be in the right place. Likewise, some don’t need to be aggressive, because their timing is so good. I’ve never seen this player, so can’t really tell if he is that sort. But you can be a DM without perceived energy and aggression. Admittedly, these are rarer players.
  4. A bit of Bertolt Brecht is apt: "Do not rejoice in his defeat, you men. For though the world has stood up and stopped the bastard, the bitch that bore him is in heat again." Although he isn't defeated and the bastard has not been stopped....
  5. "Why should any of us abide by the new restrictions?" - Farage Because if you call someone out for hypocrisy you do not respond with hypocrisy. You Brexiting EU-passport carrying hypocrite.
  6. It's like the old Likely Lads episode when they're avoiding seeing the England score, and one of them catches a headline "England F..."
  7. This is really confusing, In one photo McGinn looks sad that Grealish is leaving, but Ollie looks happy. In another photo Ollie looks sad that Grealish is leaving, but McGinn looks happy....
  8. Why is it a bad attitude to want to play?
  9. Rather than "class", I would say socio-economic status coupled with life chances. I have many friends in the building trade who see themselves as "working class", but have incomes of over £50K. Their "working class" children with have different life chances. Off-topic, but sort of relevant....a few years back, I was involved in a conference on "White Working Class" school achievement. WWC was defined as children on free school meals. They basically achieve much lower results than for instance, children who speak English as a second language. Anyway, a researcher at the start of the conference showed that c.60% of the UK see themselves as working class. When exam results are released, and once again children on free school meals (children in poverty) have very low grades, the press (both left and right with opposing agendas) report that our government and education system are failing the "working class". So you can see the bias it puts into 60% of the populaces head immediately. So what we see as "class", is more likely socio-economic. My parents were working class, and were when I was born. By the time I left school they were no longer in the same class position, home-owners etc. Bizarrely, I earn more than they ever did, approaching mid-50s, never owned a house or car and never will! But if placed into a class, it would definitely be middle. The first black players I saw were the likes of Viv Anderson and Tristan Benjamin when Forest and County played Lincoln City in pre-season friendlies. First black Villa player that stands out in memory was Mark Walters.
  10. Sports “journalists” do my brain! ”Needs to get his career back on track” The **** played 30+ games for Chelsea last year!!! How about getting a career as a proper journalist, rather than a paint by numbers according to Sky top6 whipping boy?
  11. Yeah, it's straight out of the crap TV presenter school, usually on property programmes, "can you see yourself sat by the pool (insert naughty giggle) having a cheeky cocktail?"
  12. I reserve judgement on Ross until he tells us accurately how much Lansbury earns a week.
  13. Is that meant as a denigration of his goal against lower opposition or a celebration with a caveat? I’ve given you a way out there...use it.
  14. Kosovans have a national sport based on their love of Last of The Summer Wine. The three oldest people in competing villages sit in a bath-tub on wheels and get pushed down precarious hills. It's a time challenge. The village that hit the time nearest in minutes and seconds to the combined total of E numbers in a packet of nik naks win the coveted Pristine Kupa Trofe.
  15. I liked the bit when he said “Traoré swung the decision for me”
  16. Exactly...pay the man and damn his impudence!
  17. Yeah, but fans of music won’t know that.
  18. Anyone born after the Vietnam War is a fop and a pissant.
  19. And wasn't it rumoured at the time that some of the squad didn't really give them much of a welcome?
  20. The government have not overreacted on anything. If anything it is the total opposite. Lockdown could have been earlier and mask wearing mandatory from that time. It does look like they just want to be seen to be doing something.
