Zarate link is Exciting. Would love to see him combining with Ireland and Bent. Still think we lack a lot of options out wide. Would love us to sign another winger and possibly another centre half.

From a 'Boro fan. He's an attacking full-back, but is a very good ball winner too. 'Boro have played 5-3-2 quite a lot recently, so he's played as a wing back. He can also play on the left wing. I think he's a proper Lambert full-back. Likes to get forward and put crosses in, but is also solid in a tackle. He's also quite tricky. He's still a bit raw, and I feel he can learn a lot at Villa.

I predicted relegation two weeks ago, nothing has happened at B6 to change my opinion on that. Buying 21/22yr old's from Belgium and the lower leagues is all well and good but we are desperate for first team players who will come in and improve us right now. Big_John is right most of the time with his posts. People on here seem shit scared to have a player on more than 40k a week now because we will get into the same financial mess we were in before...This isnt the case. Having players like Beye, NRC, Warnock, Sidwell on huge salaries was the problem, the problem was our whole squad was overpaid. Now we are left with a threadbare squad bereft of any real quality and the only additions to the team are ones from shit leagues abroad and the lower leagues. Now Im not saying these players wont succeed (you can throw out examples all day long of players who have) but is this really the time to be buying these players? I was happy with the signings of KEA and Vlaar because they were from the Dutch league and (probably) represent good value for money, but the signings of Benteke, Bennett, Stephens etc. does not fill me with confidence. Im sorry, it just doesnt. We need players. But we need the right players.

From a Genk Fan: Benteke is quite allround: strong, rather fast, good skill and (finally) improving on his finishing. Made a lot of progress but still has quite a few things to learn: not a finished product. He misses the easiest of chances but yet again has the physical capacity + above average skill to keep the opposing defense busy. In the national team he’s in balance with Lukaku for the ST position in 433, but with RC Genk he’s very compatible with sniper Jelle Vossen in a 442. At his age (21) he has quite a margin of progression

Unfortunately I agree with Chindie. The current squad we have will probably see us relegated. 2/3 good signings and we can potentially finish 12th-17th. I still think we will sign a couple of players but I have no idea what is actually going on at the club at the moment. The club is being run into the ground.

This. To have failed so miserably in the NFL and now in the Premier League is plain embarrassing. My history on Lerner is not great but didn't he inherit a successful billion $ company and an NFL team from this father? Fast forward a few years and he has sold the company, sold a failing NFL team and had his wife take him for millions. He is now left with Villa. A company he has ran astonishingly badly throughout his tenure to the point where we probably wont be a premiership club next year. The guy is a complete fraud. A joke of a businessman who is probably no wiser than me or you when it comes to anything.

Excellent analysis. Unfortunately the fans are going to suffer for the way Lerner has run the club in the last 5 years. I look at the teams in the league now and cant see where our points are coming from this season. We have to concentrate on beating the sides like Norwich, Wigan and West Ham and just hope we scrape the odd point elsewhere. The current squad will be relegated. I have no doubts about that. We need 3/4 players before this window closes and then another 2 in January in order to remain a premiership club. I like Lambert and the signings he has made so far have been reasonable, but he has taken on a club in turmoil with a squad full of poor players/youngsters. We are in a relegation battle this year, make no mistake about it.

Im inclined to agree with beasley14. He has never really done anything in the first team and in fact has been very poor in most matches. I have high hopes for the kid and pray he comes good but I'm not holding out a great deal of hope.

Hmmm. Everybody seems to have slammed the original post in this thread, Im not so sure why? Whilst I think we will survive this year, relegation is certainly a possibility. We dont have nearly enough quality in our squad to be assured of anything this season. I like Lambert and think he will do well here, but the guy needs to be backed. We have a serious lack of class in our side at the moment.

I like Ireland. He is a better player than N'Zogbia, Delph, Holman, Herd and Albrighton. We have far bigger areas of concern in our team than replacing Stephen Ireland.

That's not true. In some ways it's even more important to have a sitting midfielder if you are going to play the possession game because otherwise you get done on the break. That was my big concern watching the Forest game. I wanted that midfield quintet with Bannan to work but it didn't. Will be interesting to see who plays tomorrow. Hmmm maybe you have a point. To be fair, I wasnt at the Forest game. I'd like to see Bannan given a chance though. The guy's nearly always the best player for the reserves and I like what Ive seen of him in a lot of first class games.

Bannan should play alongside KEA. His form pre-season has earned him a place in the line-up. Whilst I agree we could do with a big strong DMC, If we keep the ball better then we can cope fairly well without one.
