  1. Good plan. I was having to power up the timeflux capacitor to figure out how to get back to the future for kickoff.
  2. We are going. Headed around DC for a couple of days. My son’s second game. His first one when we beat Chicago Fire under the guidance of Paul Lambert. My daughter’s first game as she was born the day before the Chicago game. How awesome my wife is and how much we love the Villa she sent my Dad, my son and I to the game but told me to bring back a scarf for the baby
  3. Washington DC/ Landover MD just in case anyone was headed for the old USA capital for this one so excited for this and I get to heckle Chelsea when they play Fulham so it’s like a bonus treat.
  4. Chelsea, are they still in the premier league? I was only paying attention to the top half of the table
  5. Does anyone know what is happening with Mings and injuries? I was reading an article on BBC about selections for England and they make it sound as if he has an injury. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/65895255 BBC quoting Southgate : we've got in Marc Guehi and [the now injured] Tyrone Mings and Lewis Dunk, players who are playing well without the same experiences of club European football or international football
  6. Yes, sponsor logo is always an issue. Though maybe not the greatest general shirt design I have my Acorns logo jersey carefully hung in the back of the closet for safe keeping.
  7. I’m so excited for the USA tour. Tried to take my family to Villa Park last summer when we were visiting family in the Midlands but due to construction nothing doing except the gift shop and a quick peek at the grounds from the Cafe. We canceled our week camping and now headed to DC. Kids are 6th generation Villa fans so pretty dreamy stuff for us. I saw them play in Chicago 10 years ago and witnessed one of the few good plays Stephen Ireland had in claret and blue.
  8. It’s always hard to get a good back up keeper as you just don’t rotate that position like outfielders. No offense to Olsen but the team seemed nervous with him in, rarely passed back to beat the press and just looked so much more vulnerable. if we are going to play out from the back really need a back up to match. good draw, rough day could have nicked it at the end.
  9. One of the best performances all around I’ve seen us have in years! Not even close and except for a couple minutes of pressure never looked troubled. Except for a few small changes to the team the fact this is the same squad from the loss in the fall is a credit to Emery.
  10. Weirdest season was appointing McLeish summer 2011. More Hunter Thompson psychotic break trip than Grateful Dead dancing bears and cool light show trip.
  11. If we can get him back and Emery keeps his creativity but ups the consistency this will be great.
  12. Though a lazy relinking of us to Sarr it’s so quiet right now why not. just mentions we are “keen” https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21197792/watford-aston-villa-crystal-palace-ismaila-sarr-transfer/ Aston Villa are keen and Crystal Palacehave been long-term admirers of the Senegal winger, 24 — but that price tag is too high for both.
  13. Yep weird free transfer from Swansea. The stay was so short I guess seemed like a loan. I trust Emery, that January with Samatta and Baston is what makes me want at least two good forwards for Villa all the time.
  14. Exactly, I thought he was really going to help us when we needed someone in the middle. What 2 subs, 1 start, crazy injury and I think a cost of one million.
  15. Best 3 Milner Walker Mings Worst 3 Drinkwater Bolasie Hmm… so many but I’ll go with Jermaine because you knew he could play but didn’t do it for us.
  16. https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/man-city-sign-playmaker-grealish-villa-six-year-deal-2021-08-05/ https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2010/aug/17/manchester-city-james-milner-stephen-ireland https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/barry-completes-city-deal-1.601869?outputType=amp https://www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11677/9921339/liverpool-sign-christian-benteke-from-aston-villa yep, if only we’d sold for a profit the team would be stronger.
  17. Exciting! Used to follow Chicago Fire quite a bit and actually saw Villa play the Fire in 2012. I remember as I saw Stephen Ireland actually make a good pass and Gabby scored. Welcome Jhon! (Also a childhood fan of the band)
  18. I don’t know The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark…Buy time, don't lose it
  19. I thought it was a great and innovative tactic to bring him on in midfield. Shut that side down and let Cash press and cross with less fear of tracking back in time.
  20. As many have mentioned Kamara and Luiz were immense. I haven’t seen a midfield performance from us like that in a while. Watkin’s workrate and ability to occupy an entire back line made the end of game comfortable. however, I’m super impressed by Emery’s tactics and the thought of subbing Cash in. I assumed Young was coming off but he basically shut down that side for Spurs and let Cash harass them deep in their half. Defenders are used to being tackled and pressed by attackers and they were lucky one of Cash’s tackles didn’t turn into a goal. I’m always excited to see a Villa manager really use tactical subs to flip the game. Cheers!
  21. Interesting to see who we play in Midfield with Dendoncker cup tied. Do you keep Luiz for stability and partner him with Kamara or Sanson? Is it too soon for Kamara to start? Do you risk a Sanson and Kamara duo? Other than the errant pass last season I thought Sanson did pretty well against Man Utd. Excited to see what happens!
  22. It will be interesting and well timed. Of the three managers he would seem to fit Emery’s style the best. You’d think this is the best chance for him to get in the team. From the little we’ve seen in actual games his ability to tackle, dribble and make a pass would suit a 4-2-3-1 well. I hope he takes this chance to impress.
  23. The media and “experts” baffle me sometimes. I’m looking at the BBC player ratings. The lowest rated player is Ings with 5.02 then Coutinho with 6.28. Ings who scored a brace and linked the ball beautifully while running the full 90.
  24. Dank played that so well and just the beauty of good player management. get rid of the ridiculous 4-3-3. We just looked better both directions. players can play with passion and to their strengths. I had a hard time picking POTM with Bailey, Luiz, Buendia. Game is secured and Dank uses the subs so strategically both for the game but also player management. Leave McGinn out the whole game you start some dressing room issues. Even though Watkins has more stamina you leave Ings on with the hope of a hat trick. Bring Archer on as 12 minutes for a player that age is a good chunk. This is the Dankiest weekend I’ve had in a long time. What will I do the rest of the day not muttering under my breath about the game? woohoo!
