Easily our biggest concern is our midfield out of possession in my opinion. Shame we had to sell the only player in our team who could aggressively plug holes defensively. Playing midfield two of Gardner and Westwood is just too slow. (Tsibola didn't really catch my eye apart from some nice possession passing in first 35mins...I know they easily managed to bypass midfield with no pressure what so ever when it happened tonight. Same as Sunday)

those teams had the joy of being able to play two rows of back 4/5 and not be criticised if they never have the ball in the opposition half in full 90mins. Something that we lack given were playing L2 but yeh "passion" is the difference in why one is more organised than the other from defensive POV

defensive "organisation" demands couldnt be anymore different when comparing tonight for villa and those teams. Its kind of pointless mentioning those teams as if we should be trying to be organised like them. Its a ton easier for those teams to be organised given what they are trying to achieve in a game from a defensive POV.

Anyone played FIFA with a mate and you end up losing and basically no chance in coming back...so you score a few own goals to take the shine off things? That's what we're doing...usually you do it when you're 5-1 down on FIFA...5-1 or 2-1 it's basically same for villa

With the rumoured sponsorship deals being reduced if they dont hit CL's again + how often this type of player actually comes on the market + potential of him + marketability of him (they sure are milking it atm) + youve got him for next 10 years.... i dont think fee is all that bad I read somewhere (cba to fact check tbh) that this is the similar ratio as ferdinand was in terms of cost:revenue? So doesnt seem that bad if thats true.

He wont be upgraded on at this level. seems utterly pointless selling him to sign another player to fill his role. Ill be very dissapointed if thats the case with our finances (i dont think it is though)

sounds like a sign of a closish world class player than a good player. Can think of systems for a whole bunch of upper mid table players where they would struggle

follow up from my milik post. Can somebody confirm or tell me ive just made it up in my head that something similar happened with saurez. In my mind he went through a period at liverpool where he just kept getting himself into great scoring opportunities but ended up missing a bunch of 1v1 or hitting the post a lot. Which made people question his potential future greatness. but looking at his year on year goal scoring is making me think i made that up.

i dont get why nobody criticized him for his god awful defending against hamsik in the euros. It was so bad. (not really a point to this post but whatever). Some defenders really do get let off by the media compared to others. Also have we got to the point where if every signing is "lol overspend, craZy figures, what idiots are paying that" then its no longer crazy figures/overspend? And just simple inflation. Because its getting a bit boring reading about overspend after every signing Milik looked great in euros. never watched ajax play and cba to look up stats, but his finishing could just be put down to variance at euros. Hes only 22 aswell? not bad. If hes already getting into all those goal scoring oppertunities which hes missing in a tourny, not really that big of a deal given his age and improvement in certain areas of his game. Getting into those spots is just much more important/valuable

pretty good signing iyam. think he'll just instantly improve at everton. Especially with proper pre-season now in this country and proper integration + tactics (lolsherwood) dont fully understand why people are happy with losing a player who appears to be prem quality. Were pretty much losing the only midfielder we got whos got pace/acceleration to cover ground and who appear can tackle/intercept. Never seen this tshibola play, but the liklihood that he would be an upgrade (or on par) is going to be real real real slim. (or signing anyone else)

or maybe your opinion on these less than 20m cb being good enough is totally wrong for what certain teams want to achieve (hence why theyre less than 20m) and its nothing to do with "exciting supporters"? how would stones excite supporters? or Mangala/demichelis/bailey. i imagine those cb's fall into category like shawcross/williams where for some bizarre reason get talked about as if they should be playing higher than what they are when in reality theyre at their level and moving higher they would get "exploited". (Or exploits will be criticised more)
