  1. youre joking right? you actually think EVERY manager chooses specific tactics towards their squad? loooool. of course you should expect a certain way a manager play if he does it for X period in past..haha cant wait for fat sam or pullis to play to free flowing attacking football if they get job at arsenal.....they wouldnt know where to begin. good job villachris understood where i was coming from and answered my post properly. Keep trying though mate...
  2. again. did hull-bruce dominate teams? i have no idea just hoping someone can give me answer
  3. Again im not watching us play. I tried to ask in westwood thread to make some similarities between hull and us...and nobody really answered... how different are we playing from Hull-Bruce (or previous bruce sides)....to villa-Bruce. i ask because many people were slating so much in match thread when i was following saying we wont get promoted playing like this and all this nonsense. although im convinced the way we are playing is reason why bruce will never reach top 10 in english football. But it what makes him a very very successful championship level manager so i think we should get some perspective for what were trying to achieve in current X months of what he taken over. keep winning games in a shit way against shit teams. then when we get to prem, move on. heres best place to ask...can someone tell me how we played with regards to midfield? Did we try to bypass them and go wide like previous times? Did we try to play through midfield? Just tell me tactics about midfield instead of "midfield we were poor". i feel like midfield has taken a very harsh criticism whilst its obvious the play style was to avoid them...so im asking if things have changed and its become obvious its midfield fault
  4. Just because rio was very good at some age doesnt mean stones wont be because hes not as good as rio at that point. pretty well known CB's are usually 25+ until they reach their prime. Stones was easily one of the top 3 CB's that pep could choose who fits into the system hes trying to play at the time. We only have to look at koscienly who had a very dodgy 1.5years (when he was like 25/26? for people to write him off...and then after to become easily top 10/5 CB in the world. (people who dispute this dont really understand how cb's work on an individual level).... CB's take time. Especially when one country are falling behind to to develop proper cb's in modern game
  5. im going to guess youre very very new to using stats in football. Youre easily using some of the most poiintless stats to be used in analytical world. Especially over 90min sample @woodytom....as he didnt bother to reply when he got shown up...i do not give a fk how westwood is doing. i have problem with the stats used. I will have same problem with stats used if they used them in positive way. (Althogh iirc, passing stats in past was mostly to show it wasnt always backwards or whatever you guys tried to claim)
  6. your last sentence is stupid if you read my posts about how i have 0 opinion on him as i havent watched enough games to form one. But i have major problems how youre using passing stats and touch stats in a throwaway post e.g. obviously ayew is going to have more touches as thats his game. and passing stats...its soooooooooo easy to get 5 passes from 1 cb -> dm -> cb -> dm -> cb -> lb -> dm -> cb -> dm -> cb. etc in a possession sequence. to the point where passing stats is irrelevant. but this is important to you?! (theres going to be a TON of variance over 90 min sample on those stats) put it this way...anyone whos doing semi analytics and looking at stats will never look at the stats youre using because theyre literally pointless by themselves
  7. iirc...30mil for rio is over 70/80mil in the current climate with inflation.
  8. So you want a defensive midfielder to "lift the club"?? That just doesnt happen as most DM do scrappy work which fans dont realise. coleman has always been ace...But i struggle to see how hes everton best player when majority of everton fans are saying gana has been amazing...but you seen some (im guessing here) limited games of everton this season. I feel like we should go with everton fans opinion who watch every game. but i feel like you said before (maybe joking...but i heard a few people say it in person) how gana is no kante. As if that is the minimum a defensive player has to perform to and if he doesnt..hes just average and not performing. Hes still very very very good even if he doesnt perform to the best current #1 DM in england.
  9. i know people hate hearing my thoughts when it comes to arsenal as they think im a "closet arsenal fan" or some bullshit...but ive always tried to say it how i seen it... pieface earlier said "bottling title again"..i wouldnt say that...i would just say its regressing to the mean to how shit theyre playing the current season. (you could maybe argue about "bottling") lets no forget theyve got very very lucky in a lot of games where theres some unforgivable mistakes from the Ref which has got them extra 4 points more than they should (s'ton and burnley) before this previous downturn im starting to believe whoever has less injuries to key players...wins the league...e.g lester last year...now chelsea.... the problem is that 7/11 players for arsenal seem to be "key players"...you take out one off sanchez..ozil..cazorla...mustafi..kos..coq...cech...even bellerin.....it just isnt the same free flowing attacking football that arsenal try to achieve...You take 1 "key player" from any side top 4 and it will "function" ok...but with arsenal...it just seems they need the top 11 side to compete to the very best and if you take 1 player out, the team as a whole just doesnt function....The subs they have are very very good squad players but just fail to integrate to the first 11. it does still seem theyre struggling to replace cazorla...(lol at people calling xhaka box2box or dcm in the thread earlier) hes very CLEAR a DLP who has semi attributes to hold midfield (and he was to replace cazorla injury and future)....but apart from watford game earlier (if you watch this game you would think wow...maybe he has what it takes to be a proper DLP)...hes been poor. However he has only been in prem for less than 6 months and cazorla didnt play that well in his first appearances so i feel some are being too harsh. the city game just showed how much they missed cazorla...cazorla is literally GOD at counter acting any kind of press. Man city last game pressed so well the arsenal midfield and defence struggled so hard to play in the second half... which goes onto my thoughts on ozil...i feel ozil is being very very miss-harsh judged from the city game. Yes eyes test and stat test shows he was awful...But the whole arsenal defence and midfield literally couldnt play two passes together to bypass the press to the position ozil was playing. Xhaka was awful in the game and it isnt Coq job to do that. tldr stats/analytics/eye test shows they wernt title contenders from the start and back to fighting for champs league trophy

  11. hehe.. its ok ill wait until the next game where he plays ok (or not up to the standard of kante) to get the opinion why hes bad....zzzzzzzzzzz
  12. thats not what im complaining about...and shows your missing the whole point... but ok im complaining about people using stats as in X vs y...y was lower than x therefore Y is bad...and its stupid to view football in that simplistic form...and thats what sportsjoe did...and many people who try to use "stats" (badly) here do edit: there could be TONS of reasons why hes shit...but if you just want to highlight passing stats and touch stats why he is shit...and compare it other positions which other people dont play..i will laugh at you and think youre doing stats HORRIBLY wrong. almost some kind of analysis has to go with it not trying to brag or anything..but i make 10% of my income from the illogical POV that showing in these stats...people here making it far too simplistic and football stats 101
  13. Is touches just everytime a player touches the ball whilst on it? Because if jedinak didnt have a very high number compared to rest then i would be extremely worried. Given he plays in midfield position which would get pressed the least. And plays in a position where its one of the easiest for CB's to pass to if theyre facing any half-assed press / moving the ball around at the back +FB. Just how westwood as pointed out by keyblade used to have 50-60 passes in a game under lambert. (pretty sure he played the deepest midfielder a lot of the time) And grealish play style literally defines he gets more touches....(as before you criticized ayew getting more touches than westwood) I mean, isnt that EXACTLY what he did against blues? pick players and intentionally bypassed them (midfield) by hoofing it every oppertunity. It isnt stupid, its just a different style. It wasnt a tactic to bypass westwood.because its westwood. I it does still seem wishwashy stats are still being used to prove hes shit...whilst previously...semi stats proved why hes good...was horseshit by you guys in the past aka all these stats youre trying to use to fit your POV...is awful for people who try to use stats in a meaningful way p.s all im asking for is stats with context (as keyblade asked for)...not just bullshit throwaway stats to suit your biased opinion) youre using stats in the wrong way to debate it...... proved by...".because ayew has more touches than westwood" a few games back that you had as a negative is pure horsehit. and still have to account for variance and sample size of 90 mins

  15. so how does getting MoTM against united and arsenal in space of 10 days + fans saying hes been MoTM 12 of the 16 games, fit into the narrative (had to use the word) of "he only plays well at start of season and then hes back to being anonymous, and only plays well when team is winning" Because united + arsenal happened in december, and theyve only won 6 games? So wheres the other 6 MoTM performences coming from?
  16. From watching sinclair at his days at villa....theres one thing he wont do and thats add creativity. What will happen is.... He will get the ball, head down and try to run past everyone to score. Next time he gets the ball, head down and try to run past everyone to score. Next time he gets the ball, head down and try to run past everyone to score. Repeat this 50x until one day the stars will align and he will score two goals in one game and everyone will be saying "i know hes got that in his locker, he just needs to add some consistency" and the following game he will go back to running with the ball, head down and failing. Ill give you he will add balance to the side as it will be perfect wide-man symmetry if played with ayew as none of them will pass the ball.
  17. Can somebody tell me the position diame played for hull last season, especially in away games? Im pretty sure hes a CM right? Because i really wouldnt be surprised this whole "hes useless....one reason is...look at the stat of only trying 21 passes in one game" is heavily related to bruce set up (especially away games). I can only semi-remember two away games (i missed norwich) since bruce has took over...One game we just hoofed it as much as possible to bypass any kind of midfield. And the other we just tried to go wide instantly with not really any attempt to go through the middle. I ask about diame because for Hull last year he averaged 19 passes with ~1 interception ~1 tackle in away games. And yet he was signed for the best team in the championship. And by sportsjoe definition, more useless than AW because apparently passing stat is only thing that justifies a player being effective. (im kind of shocked people are saying its a great article, it sucks with 0 analysis apart from "goalkeepers have more passes than one player...therefore...he sucks" and no other reasons why hes ineffective) And no, im not saying hes not shit or not ineffective. I have 0 opinion on him as i havent watched enough games this season to form one. Just seems like some throwaway stats are being used as justification for why hes shit. (yes i know other reasons have been used and they might be right) Just throwing it out there that maybe its way more related bruce play-style where one midfielder ends up with some "poor" passing stats than one guy being a "coward" or "pathetic"...or maybe it is because hes a coward.... p.s i love stats.
  18. yup stones showed that he could single-handedly ruin defences all by himself. He did it so well he managed to secure a 40m+ transfer to one of the best clubs in the country. or maybe, it was hugely down to the manager who gets criticized by everyone for not being able to set up defences and rumoured to have all their players unfit (although this seems to always get said) has left. And has been replaced with a really good manager who had his previous club looking really solid defensively. And everton would be looking very solid still if stones was still there Stones hate is a bit silly
  19. because its been 6 games and variance exists a redic amount over short samples.... also stats like that dont say how good the actual chances which have been created are. xG graphs would be good to look at. but dont think they get made for championship
  20. think i saw a post from trent saying ayew was basically same as nzogbia during the game xD
  21. 1 page different lol Good deal that clause was though...
  22. will probably be most enjoyable weekend of the season
