Completely agree. Condescending demeanour is an understatement. And some of the football played under him was as ineffective as anything I've seen since the dark days of Billy McNeill. Lambert is looking at a long term strategy. I sometimes wish some of the fan base would recognise this rather than react to every setback.

Eh? He was in the process of doing just that before he had his unfortunate health scare. w Houllier took a top 6 squad down into a relegation struggle for most of the season. He had to buy a centre forward for £24m on about £70k per week to get us out of the mess and had no thought about how Bent would fare the next season given the racing certainty that our two wingers would leave in the summer. Not quite sure how that was "turning it around"? The squad had lost Milner and Barry who were the heart of the midfield. He had also decided MON's style of big lumbering defender who couldn't pass a football had to be replaced but was never given the time to complete that job. It is pretty difficult to start managing a team after the window has shut and preseason is over and then get them playing your style during the season. We had looked better towards the end of the season, better than we have been under Lambert intact. It's ancient history now but I would have been interested to see what Houllier could have done with a summer window and a preseason to work with the team. Personally I'm glad he wasn't around long enough to continue his work. He is a footballing dinosaur. Back on topic, I agree with Terrytini, far too many knee jerk reactions after 1 poor result this season. Lambert needs longer to turn around the damage done by his 3 predecessors.

He will be going againist everything Lambert is planning for at Villa, a old player wanting a fat wage before he retires. No chance of Gallas at Villa. No chance at all. I'd rather risk it with Clark and Baker. Have him on a pay as you play deal, if he has been good enough to play for Spurs for the last two season im sure he can do a job for us when called upon. He has vast experience playing at this level and it would take the pressure of Clark and Baker and maybe even Vlaar. I agree with AndyM. It's not ideal but we have to make the best out of an awful situation. Are there any better options out there?

I agree I disagree having suffered 2 ACL injuries. It depends on whether it has snapped or torn. If it's snaped it's a complete replacement of the ligament using either a hamstring or patella graft, if it's torn it can be repaired. I first snapped and then later tore my ACL. I couldn't walk when I snapped it but walked around with just a tear. Either way you can't rush the rehab so it would be a minimum 6 months for the repair and probably 9 months for a replacement.

Major blow if the news is confirmed. We're back to having 3 centre halves which isn't great considering Baker's injury record and the likelihood of suspensions etc...

I don't disagree with you however I've both snapped my ACL and torn it, the first time I knew I'd done it but the tear was only picked up when I went in to have some scar tissue flushed out.

Needs to start from now on. He was pivotal in our good run last season by complimenting Westwood and Delph. Had he played yesterday I doubt Cabaye and Sissoko would've had the time to dictate the tempo in midfield.

We were crying out for width yesterday and for all his shortcomings in his first season in the premiership, one thing Bennett offered us was width - especially going forward. It's far too early to write him off as he has a very good left foot. Once he has matured and gained more strength he will prove to be a very decent left sided player.

I couldnt hold the tears back, especially when his lad ran over to him. That tipped me over the edge, really emotional moment I just about did, sat watching with the wife and kids, I had to take a few big gulps. You did better than me dude, as a father of 2 sons I couldn't hold back when his son ran onto the pitch. Everything I read and hear about Stan makes me incredibly proud he wore our shirt. Stan is a true role model in every sense of the word. God bless you Stan.

Agreed. He's unpredictable and erratic and capable of producing something out of the ordinary. I'd hope Lambert can harness that to our advantage when he's fit.

I read a while ago that Bouma was too emotional to come out at the final game of the season against Blackburn at home - to this day I think we were too hasty in releasing him. If we do have a charity game at Villa Park I hope Freddie plays so we can give him the ovation he deserves.

Apparently Clarke has 2 games to save his job. Hopefully they get a coupe of points from them so he's stays in the job for longer!
