  1. Sell on clauses are very common now. Especially with the likes of man city and others spending obscene amounts. If City bid 70m for him in 4 years, they'd want a piece of that, of course. It's release clauses I don't want to see
  2. The main problem with Embolo is Juventus' interest. Even if we can outbid them, we'd need to convince a player to come here instead of holding out for them. Also, Juventus are looking at him long term, so i expect they'd be open to the idea of signing him and loaning him back for a year, which would be very appealing to them Ps. I didn't realise I was several pages behind .. So sorry if that suddenly seems random now the conversation moved on
  3. That's a pretty big reason to want him then. Out of season next summer. If we can loan him for a year, he can decide to turn up and bag himself some attention for a lucrative contract in USA or Middle East, he's quite welcome here. I wouldn't be against him here, as long as the wages are reasonable and he's not 'plan A'.
  4. There won't be a sell on. They triggered a release clause which means we can't negotiate, therefore can't insert any clauses
  5. And training alongside those players will make him so much better. He might leave in 4 years time but his 'step down' will be a huge step up from where he currently is. Learn from the best coaches and players for 4-5 years, grow your reputation, maybe hit the radar with the odd sub appearance or league cup game, then move on, and pocket 40k a week for doing so.
  6. I'm not so bothered about the instalment thing. Randy can put the installment money in now, knowing he will be getting it back. I hope.
  7. The French league isn't as high a standard as some people seem to think. So signing players purely because they have been amazing in the French is a risk, and I hope a huge amount of scouting has gone in so we're not just basing on reputation. However it's unfair to rule out any French players. And even if you were basing it on French players of yesteryear, I'd say the current Aston Villa is hugely different to the one of several seasons ago. The entire top level of management has changed, along with manager, coaches and footballing philosophy.
  8. There you go. @AVFCOfficial: BREAKING NEWS: A big welcome to @JordanAmavi who has joined us from Nice. Details here: http://t.co/EBFGiJLgsI #AVFC http://t.co/C7xGLZVEOC
  9. His stats and reputation sound fantastic. Let's hope they translate themselves into an excellent signing. Welcome Jordan, but don't stop there Villa, we need more in.
  10. Anyone thinking we might get martial for 10-15m, remember that Spurs went for him a while ago, were told 18m and that was without competition for him. I think we can just move on from that rumour, full stop
  11. Might be just what we need. Lots of people (not villa fans obviously) saying about how being relegated might help us, as we've been papering over the cracks for ages, sticking with substandard players who just about scrape by every season. This feels like a relegation, to have had so many players leave in one window. Only we still have PL football, the money and the ability to attract premiership standard players. It's also been the kick up the are Lerner and co needed. It could all go wrong. But IMO it was all going wrong anyway, at least this is now a chance to get back on track.
  12. Same joke in 2 threads? Really? And expect many more.
  13. Do we need a captain? They'd only end up having a medical at City. I said Clark in last thread, so... Clark. But I have a feeling Tim will give it to Richards, seeing as we'll probably have a whole new starting 11 anyway.
  14. Something must have changed.. If there was any element of wanting to go, there was no need for the statement to say he loves the club and looking forward to the new season, etc.. You'd just keep quiet, or get your agent to say 'talks are ongoing but Fabien is currently concentrating on his contractual obligations with Aston Villa', that usual guff. Everyone expected him to go last week, so no-one would have been shocked now had we not had that 'reassurance'. Now he's changed his mind completely, he can't come out of this well. Sterling will be delighted though, talk about taking the heat off.
  15. Starting to wonder how many players in our opening game will have been at the club last year. Guzan, Clark, Bacuna/Hutton.. Then there's Kozak, Gil, Gardner, who weren't in first team plans last year.. It's going to be an unrecognisable starting XI I think. Luckily our last starting XI finished 17th.. so not the worst thing in the world.
  16. Is this the same Kevin Phillips who came to us 'towards the end of his career' about 10 years ago? Nothing against the guy, but I'd really hope we can identify better targets than this.
  17. Benteke. Delph. Cricket. Sport can **** off.
  18. Feel sorry for the people who already spent their winnings on their Delph to stay at long odds bet.
  19. And how do you know THAT isn't the fake one?..
  20. Worked well for Southampton. There are clubs with money, and clubs who sell to the clubs with money. It's obvious which we are. We have enough capital to buy decent players (6-15m) and then sell them for 25-30m and buy a handful more 6-15m players.
  21. Martial in would mean we've killed on the Benteke deal. Love Christian but Martial has looked absolutely shit hot and has so much more to his game. We'd not be as one dimensional and allow more players into the game. Kozak can be used for the route one and crosses approach. Gil and Praet threading balls through for Martial..
  22. Kozak was always meant to be Benteke's replacement IMO. His injuries mean that's too much of a gamble now though. Fwiw I still think Kozak will be excellent, well adapt our play style to suit him, but we'll need a couple of different options. I like the players being linked, but am sceptical we'll end up with the calibre being rumoured
  23. His career is **** but I agree with the decision. If you start punishing people for things said in private it's going to spiral out of control. Their careers are over, that's enough.
  24. Utd would be a fantastic move for him. I wouldn't begrudge him, and I think we can do a lot with 32m.
