kingphil
Off to Vegas the start of October with my brothers to celebrate my 40th birthday. I class my knowledge on Vegas as above average, as having been there 3 time before and doing lots of research. However, this is the first time I have stopped in the MGM Grand, and after some inside knowledge from anyone that may have stayed there in the past. I've ventured in before to see the lions, but that's more or less all I have done in this hotel/casion, so got a few more detailed questions :- What's the casino like for gaming Is it worth venturing into the VIP pool area 'Wet Republic' - or should we just stay in the Grand pool complex. What are the clubs/resturants like What are the rooms like As MGM is classed as number 3 in the world's biggest hotel - is there a chance we could get lost in there, or is it pretty simple once you get your bearings. Any tips would be welcome (and I know to always bet on black).
bromsgrove_avfc
Not sure what your into but I would say Wet Republic was worth a look! http://wetrepublic.com/photos/140 I'd probably keep my shirt on though! MGM is massive but you wont get lost. When I stayed thee (it was a while ago now) the rooms were nice but a bit 'tired' prefer the Bellagio or Wynn now. Demitri_C
MGMS a great choice. with wet republic, i would say (i dont know you build) but if your overweight you could feel abit uncomfortable as there are hot women and most men are muscled up to the max (what do they put in their meat over there!) also i would suggets if your going out to get smashed you may find it difficult to find your room its so big!! so make sure you sober up abit! oh and avoid there buffet its pants. go spice buffet in planet holywood its glorious
villa4europe
When I went we had a great meal in the rainbow cafe which if you have any kids with you would no doubt be brilliant
Seat68
The rooms are fantastic, go for a grand tower room, although the upgrade is to the west wing, the grand tower is the better. The beds are the best I have ever slept in, full stop, they are renowned for them. Go to Rouge, if the croation is working, pitch up at the bar, put $10 in the video poker, drink free and chat football for a few hours. For breakfasts can I suggest the bellagio buffet, $13 no queues and excellent food, the mgm, their buffet is ok, but nothing more.
VBM
yeah those West Wing beds are hands down the greatest thing ever. I dream of recreating those things at home
kingphil
Well, back from my trip to Vegas and was very impressed with the MGM Grand. The hotel as you stated was huge, but after a few hours I soon got my bearings. Was a little disappointed with the room size, as I went with my two brothers, so had to get an addtional single bed in the room, and not that impressed with the bathroom as expected a little more (based on previous stays at The Luxor). However, it was clean, fit for purpose and served us well. Had a few drinks on our first night at the Centrifuge (main bar in MGM just by the lions), but at $35 for 3 draft pints, decided we better move on somewhere else. Tended to nip over the road to the Hooters Casino, as bottles of beer for $1.50 and Black Jack tables for $3 - not to mention the very hot girls. We got pretty friendly with one of the cocktail servers at Hooters, so every 5 minutes she was bringing double JD, rum and vodka to us, all for a $3 tip. Got tickets to enter Wet Republic on our last day, but as this was a Friday and they had decided to open up more of the pools within the Grand pool complex (and more importantly the lazy river), we decided to stay in the main pool area (and also drink the cans we brought in from the supermarket - as bottles of beer by the pool cost a crazy $8). We did find some of the older casinos to be better value (drinks and gaming) - the likes of Casino Royale, O'Sheas, Orleans etc, and the best find was a place just off the strip called Ellis Island which has it's own micro brewery, so proper ale/beer for $1.50. The brunch we had there was also top notch. Freemont Street (downtown Vegas) still has it all, and the dancers located in The Golden Gate Casino at the entrance to the Freemont Street Experience are just out of this world - and will pose for you for a dollar or two. Peever
Should have gone to Wet Republic and you could have had bottle service....Grey Goose....$400! Good to hear you enjoyed the trip! Me and my mate from Wales ended up walking the strip 1 day and getting smashed for free as we popped into almost every casino and would play a couple bucks in slots or hi blackjack tables and slam back a few few drinks. With my winnings we got paid to drink!

kingphil
You can't really go wrong with Hooters, probably one of the cheapest casinos to play and game - albeit not too sure what the rooms are like, and the swimming pool looked a little shabby - but hey, it's not like you will be planning on hitting the pool in later November really is it. If you want a Vegas tour guide to show you the ropes, then give me a shout !
tonyh29
Well despite my intentions to have a UK xmas for once BA sent me through flight offers that were too good to be true so off to Vegas with the wife and kids for Christmas .... probably won't take the little un's to hooters so if anyone has any child friendly tips let me know ... oldest wants to see the hoover dam and grand canyon , not being all that good at US of A geography is there anything else close by too see by car or day trip by plane ? or should we just enjoy the strip and the madness of it all :-)
leviramsey Posted December 5, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 5, 2011 Little A'le'inn, near Area 51 (about a 2 hour drive through the desert) LA and San Francisco are do-able as day trips by plane (though the latter especially deserves at least a one-night stay). tonyh29
Having just got back can I say Vegas Rocks Kids loved it and want to go back ... Mummy and Daddy loved it as well and can't wait to go back , but without the kids :-) Fremont Street was a good shout ... saw a great rock band there and the place just has a great buzz about it We stayed at the Palazzo on the strip but to be honest if I went back with mates I think I'd stay down town on Freemont where it's a bit more spit and sawdust :-)
