ender4
I think Hughes could be a great signing. He is up and coming and could potentially be the next alex ferguson. I am surprised how some posters expect us to get the best managers in europe when we are nowhere near that level and even if we did get Ancelotti we aren't suddenly going to finish in the top 4 which the same posters would then start saying how shit Ancelotti is. exactly. dynamoh
Anybody see Fulham play this season (or for that matter Blackburn). I think they made Villa look like Brazil. Who will mark Hughes attract to Aston Villa. Stephen Ireland and Warnock revitalised I can't wait! Why don't we get Tony Pulis in he's a mid table specialist or what about potato head. Man City was different because he had money to burn. They didn't go there for the Mark Hughes factor. As always I will support whoever is in charge but I'm not exactly thrilled at the prospect!!! Wes
I'm not convinced it's going to be Hughes. It's the obvious story right now. I don't think this thing is over yet. Could turn out to be completely wrong by 8pm - I'm still going to be watching the news wires.

becks1876
I read Hughes had a get out clause in his Fulham contract which allowed him to terminate early, as from yesterday he was a free agent. I guess he handed in his notice and the club have hit back by saying he has to serve 4 weeks notice. I just hope that Randy appoints a manager by tomorrow and stops all our stresses over who is next. Mr Lerner if you reading this PULL YOUR FINGER OUT.
JulieB
I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and count to 10! Ianprior from the Guardian has just tweeted - "Hearing Hughes to Villa might not be the certainty everyone assumes (cue immediate appointment). Feelers out to Ancelotti too!" which very much backs up Mat Kendrick's article this morning...

Hairbandinho
An underwhelming appointment if true. What has he ever achieved as a manager? Finishing 6th after spending loads at Man City....Great!!! I will support him if appointed but given the quality of manager's available unemployed it's a letdown. I supppose it's a sign of the clubs adjusted expectations. Maradona10
Yes Mr Lerner go and give Ancelloti what he wants! Even though the club is making losses cripple the club if you have to! It cracks me up one min we say the board are great after signing Bent but then because they don't go after the 'name' manager they get slagged off again and I for one think it's disgraceful. smetrov
I think Ancelotti was gettable ....but was he keep able ? - I will be quite pleased with Hughes. He has a lot of work to do though.....he needs to start ASAP
quinny
I dont think anything is yet definite or going to happen by tomorrow, though you can pretty much guarantee that MH will be declaring his availability very soon and have a chance to stake his claim in the next few days

Hughes leaving Fulham does not mean a deal has been done - it does not even mean he's held detailed talks with Villa yet. I think people could be in for a surprise. SkyItalia reporting Ancelotti is on his way to Villa. Here's hoping.
OnlyOne
How stupid would it be if Hughes was contracted all the way to end of June when Fulham are suppose to start Europa League at that time?
VillaAlex
Some of the posts in here are embarassing to say the least. 1) Hughes isn't a certainty yet. 2) Ancelotti might not want to come here. 3) Hughes playsattractive football and has been appreciated at every club he's been at apart from City. 4) Hughes doesn't mean mid table mediocrity. 5) Why has the vibe changed just because Ancelotti was linked. Amazing how people can have their emotions swayed by the media.

Mr Lerner if you reading this PULL YOUR FINGER OUT. what the hell?? we've only had a manager vacancy for about 24 hours. it takes time to employ people, especially such important positions paying £2-3mill a year. heck, it takes me over a week to employ an admin bod on £15k. hants-villa
If we got Hughes and he took three years to finish 9th, 7th and 5th respectively and then had a team that could squeeze into the top 4, would you be happy?
Razor
Interesting from Matt Kendrick....... This morning, the Birmingham Mail revealed that Villa are going to launch a bold swoop for Carlo Ancelotti, with the sacked Chelsea boss well ahead of bookies’ favourite Hughes and fans’ choice David Moyes in Randy Lerner’s thinking. The American billionaire has yet to decide on a definitive shortlist of contenders for the Villa Park hotseat after finally agreeing the terms of Gerard Houllier’s departure on health grounds. The official statement confirming the Frenchman’s exit, revealed exclusively in Tuesday’s Birmingham Mail, was issued last night and now Lerner is ready to step up the search for his successor. Ancelotti’s sizable wage demands would not deter Villa from an audacious move for the Italian even though the sacked Chelsea boss earned £5 million in his last year at Stamford Bridge. Villa are believed to prefer Ancelotti’s European credentials to those of Moyes and Hughes and are obviously wowed by his double-winning introduction to English football just a year ago.
