I think the point is though that the fans have a massive emotional tie to the club and want to be top dogs and win things (and were teased with this for the last 5 years) but the board have a more business like approach and if asked off the record would probably be happy with a top 10 finish every season.

If we took on a manager like RM and downing didn't want to stay because of it and left but RM then picked up some unknown young players that were the next best thing and he became a great manager who could then attract the best in the world then so what about Downing.
