Agreed there a few key wickets in the Pakistan side. If we can get those cheap the rest will follow. Draw still favourite but should be a very interesting day nonetheless.

£16 for a ticket gutted I can't get there.

Which reminds me the crowds have been an embarrassment to the area pretty much 10k spare seats every day.

Yes I wonder why that is? Could it be because of the tarnished reputation of the Pakistan team over the spot fixing last time they came? The crowds wern't great at Old Trafford either

I was amazed they couldn't sell out Pakistan in Birmingham. I was there in day 1 and there were plenty of Pakistan fans there but nowhere near as many as I'd have expected. Real shame because in the past they've been an excellent value banter wise and always one of the the tests I look forward to. Can't only blame them though as at £40 a day for the first few days it was basically half what you get charged in London and they always sell out.

Shame because you can't beat Edbaston on a rocking day. Only two reasons I came up with was the "troubles" that have dogged Pakistan as you suggest and maybe the increase in the size of the ground and the surrounding fans haven't really caught up yet?

sha being at home today, and us taking a big following to Sheffield tomorrow may have had something to do with the crowds today. A day at the test isn't cheap, so maybe it's a case of one or the other. Not that surprising though. Outside London, I can't recall the last non Ashes match that had 4 or 5 days of full houses.

England probably have enough already, Pakistan would need to set a record for a successful run chase in a test at Edgbaston, However i expect England to bat for 30 - 45 mins tomorrow and to try to score 30 plus runs. Pakistan have quite a long tail so if we get 5 or 6 before tea it will be an interesting last session.

I dont know I have seen Pakistan implode a few times. Great partnership between Bairstow and Moeen. I think its time they selected Moeen as a specialist batsman and a second spinner, particularly with the two series against Bangladesh and India coming up. He's plays spin so well when he's not wreckless.

Would you move him up the order though?

Surely we have to declare overnight? If we bat tomorrow we are just wasting time, especially considering our pathetic over rate.

Also, Warwickshire lost again today. 180 all out chasing 229 to win against Yorkshire. Bar the One day stuff, it's been a season to forget at Edgbaston. We desperately need reinforcements in the winter.

Yes in place of Vince or Ballance. If he thinks of himself as a batsman he will play like a  batsman. The reason he failed at 6 was because his focus was as a bowler.

Theres no chance Cook will declare overnight, too scared of losing. If he wanted to do that he would have sent someone out to tell Moeen and Bairstow to attack in the last 20 minutes or so.

Yes I have a feeling that Troughton will replace Dougie as DOC next season. Its been a mixed success since he has taken over. Certainly gone backwards in 4 day cricket.

It's still pretty flat, though.

Declare overnight and we set them a target of 312? I remember Lords in 1984. smiley-scared004.gif

We will get through just over 80 overs though, as Moeen won't bowl much.

Go out with an attacking mindset and field and I think we will win.

I agree if Pakistan did have the carrot of scoring just over 300 they would play more shots and risk losing more wickets. No one has ever scored  300 to win a test match on the final day at Edgbaston anyway and  theres been better batting sides try it than Pakistan. England will bat for another 20 minutes and get a lead of 350/370 I think. 90 overs has to be bowled final day, theres isn't a cut off point I dont think. They could finish at 8 oclock as long as the light is good enough.

I'd bat 4-5 overs and get the target up to 340 and then declare. gives us enough time to have a second new ball, even if only for a few overs at the end, it could count.

terrific test this though, well played england today.

happy to stick with vince and ballance next test tbf.

I'd have bet every penny I have conservative Cook would have sent us out to bat again this morning. I hope we don't get to a stage where we need an hour or so more to bowl them out, as I think that would be a massive opportunity missed.

the other day when only 80 overs were bowled are more to blame for those situations than the declaration. 311 with a full day to play in a finely poised test? Would have been a huge gamble, even with it being the highest chase. Pakistan's first innings showed they're no mugs, and they can calmly accumulate. Except Hafeez anyway.

4 down now. 20 minutes to tea, oof. this will be close, they've only got a couple more batsmen left capable of sticking around under pressure I think. I think we could get the final 3-4 wickets pretty quickly, so a bit of leeway on the current pair.  Another one soon, before or just after tea and I'd make us favourites to finish it off.
