put 3.1 on my 3GS tonight .. trashed my i-phone as has every update ..unknown error 1604

weird thing is it happened on my original i-phone as well

I even put a it on a fresh PC with virign copy of i-tunes and it still crashed

luckily enough I found a cunning fix which is when it is restoring the phone and as the iphone reboots , kill i-tunes and then re connect the i-phone ..you have to get it at the right moment but then the apple logo appears and then a progress bar and the software update installs

bloody annoying though ...

the interweb theory is some form of power issue on the USB ports !!

I just about get two days out of my battery life now. Is this normal? I do use the internet for about an hour a day on it (throughout the day), plus around 30 minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less) of calls and some texting. I'm worried that my battery may be messed up, although I suppose it won't last forever when I am using things such as the internet.

Right. I'm very tempted to get an iPhone, but I'm trying to justify the extra expense.

Currently, I'm on a rolling month by month contract with 3. If I want I could ring up 3 and get them to give me a new phone and a reduction on my contract (currently £25p/m for 750mins/100txts).

Alternatively, I could cancel the contract and order an iPhone on a £35p/m contract.

Is this worth doing? I mean, is it worth an extra £10 a month? Other than buying a second hand iPhone, is there a way of getting one cheaper? I'm intrigued by getting it unlocked, but not sure if it's safe/worth risking the warranty etc.

Essentially what I'm asking is what is the most cost effective solution to getting one of these beauties.

Anybody else tried the new push service on googlemail. I had it on for 24hrs, set the push sync at every hour but then drain on the battery was a killer - infact the phone was dead this afternoon and had to reset it to get it back to life.

I think it's where instead of you having to go into your emails to check if you have any new ones, it automatically checks for you and lets you know.

I use it and can't say I've noticed any additional drain on the battery.

O and uncy_cris, just get one mate. The contract isn't too dissimilar to yours, plus you get unlimited internet, plus you have arguably the best phone going.

Best phone I've ever had and would hate to have to go back to a different phone now!

Whats push? I've seen the phrase plenty but havent really looked into it?

Basically, an example would be that instead of checking your emails every 5 mins, emails would be 'pushed' to your Iphone, pretty much in the way texts work.

Best games right now;

SocTics - a game of disk football, I thought it would be worth a try, I am addicted, just hope they add more with updates.

Drawrace - Draw the line you want to take around a track, simple as that. Drag fast for speed, slow for... well, slowing on corners!

MaxInjury - Ok, its not anything special and can get boring, its a game where you throw a crash test dummy down stairs or off a cliff... fun and even better when you add Porno Dwarfs face to the dummy!!!

Dexter - if you know the series, you will know what this game is about. Very good graphics, fun to play and you can either take the person to court or... CUT THEM UP!

Real Football 2010 - X2 was my game, I downloaded this yesterday and it has a lot going for it. Notifications, Online Wi-fi games (good for us lot here!), more teams, more leagues, more cups and a variation of Be a Pro. Main problem is the lack of real names for teams BUT you can edit this. A.Birmingham is no more.

Worth checking out;

CrazyMachine - make your own crazy machines.

Idigit - Dig, dig, dig for treasure.

Age of Curling - use those fingers boy!
