I watched about 30 minutes of quarantine the other night

Switched it off, terrible attempt at a remake

Don't think I have watched any other films lately...oh yeah one called meeting evil where Samuel L Jackson runs around playing a murderous cool black man (try to supress your shock) could have been quite good but it has been done to death and the ending was pretty god damn shite

I saw Children of men in the cinema and it became a fav of mine at the time( 2nd that year to Stranger than Fiction if anyone cares ) but I think it got overlooked in 06 as people were too busy on The Departed and Pans Labyrinth

iirc little miss sunshine had tons of hype around it and i really didnt see the fuss, or for the departed, IMO IA is still better (especially the end)

mypans labyrinth was amazing probably my favourite film of that year, although CoM runs it close, also the prestige, blood diamond, bobby and inside man (another CO film) were brilliant

strange that after IMO one of the toughest best picture years in 2005 with 5 brilliant films, 2006 was 4 decent films and letters from iwo jima

I care. I saw Stranger Than Fiction one night a year or two ago on Sky Movies when I was bored and had nothing else to watch and liked the idea of Will Ferrell playing a part where he wasn't Will Ferrell if you see what I mean.

I loved it, and thought Ferrell was really good in a more serious role. It's one of those feel-good movies with a bit of romantic comedy thrown in, and I usually think RomComs are boring and formulaic. This isn't, it's a really charming little film. Highly recommended.

I'd also recommend 500 Days of Summer if you haven't seen it, it's of the same ilk as Stranger Than Fiction and has Joseph Gordon L.evitt and (even better) Zooey Deschanel. Speaking of Miss Deschanel, I had no idea that it was her sister that plays Bones in... Bones.

I love IMDB.

Precisely the same reason I watched 'Everything Must Go' recently on Sky and also thought he played it well.

Ah I saw that was on but never got around to watching it. I'll keep looking out for it.

By the way, this doesn't mean I don't like Will Ferrell when he's playing his usual roles. I really love Anchorman and Step-Brothers. Old School never really made me laugh though for some reason, nor did that one where he plays the stock car racer.

Well I suppose they dabble in the same ideas, but they are separate films.

A Love of Two Brains is the one where the bloke's brain is put into his wife's head with her brain still in there.

But KP Project 2 was the one where Tom Cruise (as himself) gets killed and Brian (Danson) acquires his body to house his own brain.

I love that we're dicsussing these like they're real films

(I'd watch them)

Ted Danson as Brian as Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt

Starring, the bones and skin of the guy who was in the first seven, but with BRIAN doing the words!

We're pretty much on the same page then.

Watched The Damned United last night.

I'd have to say I was disappointed. A bit two dimensional, a 90 minute impersonation.

Watched Drive the night before, thought it was beautiful. I'm just a smidge uncomfortable with that uber violence that just feels one stamp or one blood spurt too many.

Chris, have you ever watched 'Spartacus : Blood & Sand' ? :P

No, not seen that one. I suspect that may contain one small violent scene too many?

Really like Reservoir Dogs, but the cop torture just goes that little bit too far for me. I suspect I may be a girl.

Let's be BFF's, I could always use a place to stay in Ireland!

That seals the friendship. Love that show, although ever since Andy Whitfield died I haven't watched the two series after that. I really should though, that first season was amazing. Shame Whitfield died though, all reports seem to suggest that he was an absolutely lovely guy. Scary how a bloke that fit can get so ill, although I know non-Hodgkin lymphoma has nothing to do with how fit and healthy you are. Shame.

The violence in Drive was purposefully done to be uncomfortable viewing. The director specifically asked another director (I want to say Cronenburg) who is renowned for very full on gore how he would do the graphic violent scenes, as they wanted violence that would shock the audience, it's a pretty integral aspect of the film imo.

Agree with Chindie.

They don't overdo the violence. It's not violent for the sake of being violent like, say, Hostel. It's shockingly violent but for a reason. it sort of has to be to have the same effect.

The one above is a TV series so it's slightly O/T but yes, there's a bit of blood in it.

There's also a little bit of nudity and a tiny amount of industrial language to boot.

Look at us understating shit. Jupiters cock !!!!!

Yeah I can see that, it's extreme in the way he is ordinarily utterly controlled.

I don't do film crit to quite your level, but yes, I can see the message and I do accept the arguement. The problem's mine. But I've just got a weak point, really struggle with graphic realistic violence. The head being slammed repeatedly in the car door at the end of Lock Stock, really really difficult viewing for me.

Slapstick violence ( C5's The Walking Dead), no problem.

It's a really bizarre hang up when your fave films includes the likes of Reservoir Dogs, Casino, Drive etc..

Drive is an amazing film, it's one of those films that you are still thinking about 2 days after watching it. Don't get me wrong, sometime i love just watching easy to digest, US Marines saving the day, type films but the films i remember are the ones that left me with questions rather than answers. Films like Crash, Memento, Inception, Pulp Fiction and Fight Club. Truly amazing films and Drive is definitely among them.

Watched The Avengers last night, I enjoyed it and I get why people rave about it but its still a cheese fest with some questionable acting and possibly the worst superhero ever in Hawkeye, a modern Robin Hood. Did like the Hulk a lot though, it kind of gave me the same feeling when I used to watch The Incredible Hulk as a kid especially when he first changes and is chasing Romanoff.
