Is it a chance for someone like Curtis Davies who has captain written all over him? Should it be NRC who if you cut him in half has captain written through his middle or is it a chance for some new blood in the role? Or..... (and this would probably be my choice) is it a opportunity to welcome Barry back as skipper following his countless recent interviews and apparant new found determination to succeed with Villa? What a great message it would be to the Sky 4, the media and the rest of the league. The world will be watching on Boxing day and it would be great to say, we've still got Barry he is wearing the captains armband again and we are taking the fight to the 'big boys'. If he was committed he would come out and sign a new deal - he hasn't - but that's another argument anyway! Captain? For me, give it to Petrov. Totally outstanding this year and he deserves a go. NRC wasn't starting, but Barry was. Curtis for me by a country mile. Capello was right when he said he couldnt understand why English people put such importance on who wears the armband. Personally I think its because we are a cricket playing nation and the captain in cricket essentially means you are the manager of the team, and for some reason we give the captain in football equal weighting. On the pitch the captain has no specific duties. The ref might look to him to tell one of his own players to calm down but natural leaders do that anyway, you dont need an armband to show your team mates you can do that, they already know. o'malley Posted December 23, 2008 Share Posted December 23, 2008 Not sure it really matters, the only ones I probably wouldn't give it to are Young, Agbonlahor, Milner. Pretty much every other first-teamer has been captain elsewhere at some point and would be able to do a fine job - and all this leadership on the pitch is a big reason we're doing so well.
