As good as Hoy's achievements were, Cavendish earned his four victories on the biggest stage in his respective sport, le Tour de France.

Nicole Cooke should be on the list instead of Victoria Pendleton as she won the World Championship as well as a gold medal and set the tone for the successful Beijing games.
