Going for high quality players on expiring contracts is a great strategy and should save us some money, on transfer fees at least.

Wonder if there are any frees a la Kamara and Tielemans (Hermoso sounds likely) we could add too..

Makes a lot of sense since we need to boost our squad, more options and more quality.

Also, players who are not getting the desired game time elsewhere or want to get their careers back on track… Unai is the man for you!

Barca need to sell players before June so wondering if we'll try pick anyone up from them. Ferran Torres maybe?

Could make a lot of sense. If Duran is to go then Torres could be a back up to Ollie, play as a second striker or on either wing. Multi purpose players going to crucial in a long campaign. He's on massive wages though I seem to remember so would need to be a very low fee or a loan.

We were linked with him before and seemed like Barca were looking rid of him, but he dug his heels in and stayed.  Maybe us in the CL now might change his mind, but it's looking like Barca will be getting a new manager, so he might want to hang about.

I don’t think we can afford him and Baena (unless Duran leaves) unfortunately, but he’s done well again this season with limited playing time. Would really like him here as LW and cover for Ollie if needed.

Any idea which Barca players have not played much, been on the bench or out of squads more than they would have anticipated?

Doubt we would be able to attract starters but there may be some we can reignite… as long as they’re good 😆

Whether we can afford a second top quality DM or not is one thing but Kamara is not going to be up to speed until late October maybe even November, we’re going to need a player of similar standard, then hopefully they will both have loads of games to play over the rest of the season.  Defensively we have looked very shaky since Kamara got injured.

100% This is the key signing for the summer and where I would splash whatever money we can. Since Boubs was out, we've shipped so many goals by not having him to drop into the back line. It makes the full backs much narrower and gives space for teams to attack us from out wide - we saw that time and again over the last weeks. It's a specific DM skillset and there's no-one in the squad to replicate it. Get that position right and we are instantly more secure in defence.

They want to offload some of the higher earners who don't start like Marcos Alonso, Ferran Torres (who was mentioned above), Sergi Roberto etc. but they also need to generate funds so can see a Raphinha or Kounde get sold.

With how Monchi operates, I think he might be more inclined to go for a Fermin Lopez type (early 20s, talented, not playing regularly)

Just had a search online, Ferran has played plenty so doubt he’d be available. Think it’s best not to deal with em or help em out, might charge rip off prices.

Alonso is old and crap, Raphina isn’t all that and too expensive and wouldn't want to leave. Much better alternatives.

Kounde has been linked but plays regularly… a no go I would think.

There are better places to shop and plenty of talent out there… unless we can pick up or steal a few young starlets off them for low cost.

I think Villa is going to be shopping in the Free transfer market this summer supplemented with some low priced “wantaways” and high potential youngsters

maybe 1 or 2 marquee signings if we got/get the budget

Gabri Veiga seems to be mentioned a few times  , no idea what the Saudis would want for him and what his wages could be though

Only Barca players I would go for (that we could realistically get) would be Kounde or Fermin Lopez. Otherwise I'd steer clear too

Depends on wage demands and interest… not a good look for a player that young to go there too but… there has been plenty said/written about players being unhappy and regretting moving over there and just how poor the standard is. Does sound like the sort of move Monchi could make and negotiate, would be exciting…

It'll be interesting to see as there's probably a few players who haven't settled into life there and are now debating with their accountants/agents how they come back. Benzema & Jota have been suggested as being unhappy in the last few months

Don’t think we could even get or attract those but yes I agree, look elsewhere and find better value.

Not gonna be easy to take starters from top teams and even if we do, will be expensive. Unless their contracts are running down or they are unsettled.

Barca would have to sell Torres for more than £25m to book a profit. We could probably get him for £35-40m and he's young (only turned 24 a couple of months ago) and versatile forward we need. Lots of CL experience too. Hopefully with CL football we could move for him and he'd be receptive

This season he's only started 12 league games, and 3 CL games, he's a backup.

Oh right… I just had a quick look and saw 28 appearances - same as Felix.

Maybe that’s a maybe then 😆

I do wonder if we go back in for the players we pursued or enquired about last summer…

I don't think we will, the likes of Ferran, Joao Felix and Pedro Gongalves was pre -Monchi wasn't it?  I'd imagine him and his scouts will have their own shortlist of players.
