I think you will find, its HOPING we have turned the corner....subtle difference Nick.....If some say we have, then thats premature IMO.

However, I think, you will agree, the atmosphere in the stadium, certainly helped us, thats what positivity brings.

That incident where, Young tackled De Bruyne......I haven't seen that desire, and fiestyness, for ages.

I saw enough to tell me, he certainly hasn't lost the players.

I think the fans are just doing their part.  To me that certainly isn’t for the manager.  I can’t even see how the City game can be close to seeing or HOPING we’ve turned a corner, we got a draw when the stats say we should’ve lost against a poor day Man City team.  We played well second half but one drop in the ocean it is not.

I don’t think it was to do with Gerrard re the lost the players.  Just like lower league teams rise up for the fight in the fa cup against PL teams, our players wanted to do that against arguably the best club team in the world.  I’m not sure that shows anything in regards to SG and the players feeling towards him.  You could see it that Mings wanted to test himself against Haaland for example.  If they wanted to be up for Gerrard what happed with the other games this season.  I think it was more the opponents we were up for than doing it for SG.  I think everybody knows SG is on his way out.

I just read that Smith had 40 points from his last 36 games when he get sacked.  I hear Gerrards record is even worse than this? How many wins does he need to have a better record?

It depends how many games, folk want to quote to make a point.....There isn't much difference to be fair.....over 31 games, SG is 2 points more.

The last 6 games of last year and the 6 preseason games....he has lost 1 game to Man City away, to deny them the title......his extrapolated games, last season would have had us 9th.

Its whatever, anyone wants to read in to it.

The start is poor, undeniably.

He’s on borrowed time TRO. It wasn’t good enough with Smith and it’s no better with Gerrard. But it isn’t worse as many seem to make out.

Either way we all accept he has to improve asap or he’s gone.

I have to say Nick, that's an unusual stance for me.

  • Shout for him in the ground
  • and want him gone outside it.

but hey ho.....we all have our ways.

Fairly standard for everybody I know.

It’s everything I’ve ever known and from everything I’ve ever learnt even business.

You have disagreements but when you are in battle you speak with one voice.  When not in battle you continue your discussions and arguments.

In business when you are sitting with the other directors, you discuss, argue, accommodate and compromise and as soon as you leave that room or meeting you all sing the same tune to the masses.

Re Villa we are discuss and argue here but to any non-Villa fan I defend Villa to the hills.  Re games…you discuss and argue in between games on Villa forums but at the game you are 100% behind the team and you leave your issues at the door.

It’s the way I’ve been brought up, people I know are the same and to be honest I’ve travelled the world and not seen much different even when I lived in Australia.  It’s tribal mentality.

The performance, had stuff in it, we have been crying out for, if you can't see that, I can't help you........As for turning the corner, Time will tell us that.

Not the people I speak to.....They agree he's under pressure, sure....but thats all.

You see it, how you want Nick.....I will stick to, seeing him turn this around.....its was only a week or so ago, they was questioning Ten Hag's appointment......and now its Tuchel.....Arteta last season after his poor start.

I just put some of it down to hot air.

Every fan wants their team to win......but it just can't happen.

Interpreting football results, sequences of results, scores and games etc does not only yield two outcomes. It is not a case of one outcome proves SG is the right man or otherwise SG should be sacked. There are so many factors that, quite rightly, influence the resulting opinion. Too much of the debate on here is centred around result X means such a thing or comment X means u want nobody but SG and all u can see is a future with SG. If you post something on here you are categorised into one of two groups and are then subjected to a litany of snide and sarcastic comments. Not every opinion or outcome is mutually exclusive of the other.

We’ve just been poor under most of his tenure is the biggest difference.

Any I’m out of this thread for today, only popped my head in hoping he was gone.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Context to the original post please Nick, I thought tabloid style twisting of comments was below u.  The post said we 'need to start now' and I pointed out that we appear to have started on Sat and we need to continue and build on it.

But can you not concede they had a poor game for them.  Just because it was arguably their best side doesn’t mean it wasn’t a disappointing performance by them…you can see the difference can’t you!

Yes, I can see the difference Nick. And a poor game for them is still right up there with a top 4 performance. Do Villa get any credit for influencing how City played or is our performance all down to Pep's team having a bad day at the office?

Still want him out, i really cant see him dropping McGinn - he is the weak line and is going to cost us plenty of point this season. 1 game does not make up for the crap we have endured (Bournemouth, Palace, West Ham)

The performance against city showed that the players are still with him. They could easily have downed tools if they had wanted him sacked.

The manager deserves praise for the performance, as much as he deserved criticism for the performances before that.

Let’s just hope that he takes the opportunity this week to build on a more pragmatic approach vs city as opposed to opening the team up too much again.

Just compare the way our players reacted and played as a team compared to Leicester against Brighton. Chalk and cheese. Emi1 epitomised the full team effort on Sat with the way he worked up the crowd and played a real captain's role on the pitch. I have been worried about Emi1's performances over the last while but on Sat I saw the old Emi1 back. I am not keen on GKs as captains but I would love to see him given the job.

He really is.

He has zero credit in the bank and it's come down to a game by game basis. He has to turn results around now

I think he may have a small overdraft facility. Next 4 games are his to prove himself I think

How much interest is he paying on the overdraft? I think it's one of those where you try and clear it but, as the charges are so high, you can never pay it back.

He hasn't gone, until he's gone.

I accept, these results, have to improve....and I have seen signs, over the last 3 of a  flicker of light.

The West Ham game could have been so different.....Their goal was fortuitous, despite the poor attempted block....and the unfortunate corner going out in mid air.......

We could be sitting on 6 points 3 draws in the last 3.....playing West Ham, Arsenal and Man City.

Its Bournemouth and to a lesser degree, crystal Palace, which has set the negativity in, and rightly so.....it was piss poor.

but looking back, will do us no good at all....we have to look forward, with belief and that competitve spirit, we have just found.

I saw a performance on Saturday from Mings, I haven't seen for months, that got him in the England side.....Young was the Leader, he was our William Wallace.

As you know, I am not Dougies greatest fan.....he was superb in his close contact and willingness to compete, not to mention that worldie of a pass....Kamara, is showing the class and the mix between defence and creativity, something sid cowans had.

Ollie second half showed the ability, to preoccupy their central defenders, and cause them grief/anxiety.....Pep made a special mention to the "trouble he caused them"......Haaland said it was a real tough game recognition of the change in attitude of our players and the ability of Mings to reduce him to one goal.

We are rightfully, criticising them when its deserved......but that was the knd of Villa approach, that has me hoping for better things.

If folk can't see some of those moments, in that game, (against that calibre of opposition) we have failed to muster in the past.....I don't know what they are looking at.

Yes, it may be a PayDay loan style overdraft but I just can't see him going after Leicester game. The next 4 games should give a decent haul of points, I think he will be given this opportunity and if it is poor then I can see him getting the axe.
