Cheltenham Festival 2020

Anyone got any tips for this year's festival? - should it go ahead!

A few decent-priced horses that I fancy are:

Ultima Handicap Chase  = The Conditional

Champion Hurdle = Cilaos Emery

Mares Novices Hurdle = Concertista

Brown Advisory Plate Chase = La Bague Au Roi

County Hurdle = Eglantine Du Sueil

Albert Bartlett Novices = Ramses De Teillee

Also going to have bets on Goshen, Asterion Torlonge, Faugheen, Envoi Allen, Defi Du Sueil, Paisley Park, Al Boum Photo, to name a few.

I'm going on Friday but have absolutely no clue about horse racing so I'll be bookmarking this thread :D

Exactly what I did two years ago. Won bigly thanks to our frozen tipster.  Used the same tactic last year and not a sausage.

I thought you don’t gamble?

I don't always tell the truth to people on a wind up either ;)

I generally don't gamble. I'm far more interested in the bar at Cheltenham than I am in the horses. But I'll stick a tenner on each race for the craic.

Same with Poker. I don't really consider that gambling. More like a game that costs me 10 quid to play with my mates.

In terms of placing bets at bookies I almost never do it. The Grand National and a day at the races is all I ever really do.

See if you can blag your way into the Michel Roux jr restaurant while you’re there. We managed it last year and it was great. Even got a few minutes with the man himself. (Obviously it helps if one of your party actually knows the man).

I did wonder!

I’ve know a lot of people who gamble way too much so I try avoid it as much as possible as I take everything too far. Some of them go to the casino quite a few times a month and will laugh off losing another 4 figure sum, which is inconceivable to me.

I’m like you that if I was at the races I’d probably put a bit on most races. Also do football accumulators now and again.

I'm going tomorrow

On Fiddlerontheroof, abracadbras and edwardstone in the supreme (sky money back as cash if lose very handy in this race, and william hill paying 7 places), then Supersundae in the champion hurdle, Kildistart in the Ultima and Hold the Note in the northern trust novices chase

I’m on +£120 already courtesy of William Hill 7 places in the first race. No matter the result :D

I was hugely stake restricted on both my accounts so couldn't do the dutch and not had those issues with WH before :(

Covered the back half of the field with small stakes though.

I did WH for +£120, and then betfair exchange have bet £20 get £20 for another £18. Easy, no risk money.

Could and should have done more really. Will do some more tomorrow.

if you understand Guinness you'll be ok

I did a coporate horse racing even last year (got absolutely battered) 2 of the guys in my group were betting and rolling over the winnings based on which horse was paraded with the prettiest girl, came away with a couple of grand each through blind luck / stupidity

my problem with racing is I find it quite boring so I drink or I throw money at it or usually both

I was there two years ago and did alright. made money on the betting, down overall when you lump in the drinking :D

My tactic, if I don't have any tips, is to exclude the top 2 or 3 (in terms of shortest odds) and then pick my favourite name of the next 5 or 6 horses.

Never fails*!

Did you cover the whole field with WH?

Soooo seeing as this apparently isn't cancelled, any tips for tomorrow?

I may as well try to win some money to go along with my side of Covid-19

Not tips (as I've paid little attention to racing this year) but I've just popped a couple of free bets on Two Taffs and Paloma Blue in the 4.50.
