I’ve just had a text from my docs to book my vaccination (38, asthmatic) but I’m torn on what to do.

Well you have to weigh up the risk in all areas of life - on this you're very, very safe - safer than not having it by some distance.

Headlines on sky news about seeking help immediately if you’ve had a headache for 4 days after the jab.

They’re doing really well to increase uptake on this aren’t they or should we actually be worried for good reason?

I think if I were asthmatic I'd take any vaccine I could get

Predictable from EMA. But sensible I guess. Though we all remember what EMA said regarding the swine flu vaccine.

Will be up to nations to avoid it now I guess.

There is nothing "predictable" They are not towing the line or making up stuff to get a dangerous vaccine through.

The WHO and the EMA and MHRA say it's safe.

There are actually more issues with Pfizer but both are massively more safe than exposing the world to Corona. It's up to nations to do the right thing and stop exposing their citizens to unnecessary and avoidable deaths.

Your attitude to this vaccine is the living embodiment of the damage European Governments have caused

Lot of my female friends have been posting about how it's strange that this is a huge issue while the much higher blood clot rate for women taking birth control pills seem to be a non issue.

Just to be clear they are not saying this vaccine thing isn't an issue but rather that more should be done to make the birth control pills safer.

It's been mentioned earlier in this thread already.  Risk of dying from blood clots associated with The Pill is MASSIVELY higher than anything the vaccines have thrown up yet it's fully licenced and even available over the counter.  No Governments are kicking up any fuss at all.

This whole thing is ludicrous and will cost thousands of lives by the end due to delay and now vaccine reluctance.

It's very predictable. EMA and WHO have a line to protect when it comes to vaccines.

They did the same with the swine flu pandemic which later was shown to be causing a lot of issues.

EMA themselves are admitting it's likely bloodclots, and hemos are likely side effects of the vaccine, but as of now due to lack of research the greater good consequence ethic applies. Entirely predictable. Think I even said as much a few days ago.

I even sort of agree with the policy, but won't make me take it. Nor do I think it will be used in this country anymore.

Great, send them over, we've got a shortage.

2 weeks after my wife had her AZ jab her arm is still sore, red and slightly swollen.

She reported the side effects via the app but didn’t hear anything. It’s not a major problem, but you’d expect these kind of things to have passed. Googling round there seems to be something “Covid arm” which is what it appears to be although it seems to be more prevalent with the Moderna vaccine. A delayed skin reaction basically.

These are images on the internet which matches what she has

To be clear I’m not trying to scare monger or spread any fear. There’s no doubt that getting vaccinated is 100% the right thing to do.

You would if you could read Norwegian.

That it doesn't work well against South African mutation should be well known. It's proven here and South Africa has stopped using it. Probably for a reason.

What South Africa does is very rarely a good policy example for other countries to follow (my family live there, and I used to as well). They forgot to pay for their vaccines and very nearly missed out on getting any at all.

Everything I've read suggests the AZ vaccine still prevents serious illness from the SA variant.

So apparently one of the issues with India is that they are having supply issues with many of the raw materials to make vaccines, mainly because America is a big global supplier but they have stopped exporting most of those items so they can produce their domestic vaccines.

What annoys me about this is not so much USA, though that is pretty abhorrent, but that world Governments and Major Pharmaceutical companies have known now for a minimum 12 months and you would think someone had been planning this and identifying pinch points.  Questions should have been asked, theoretical situations run through.

Someone should have been looking at these matters and setting up new production facilities.

New production facilities aren't going to be much use if the raw materials aren't available

I meant production facilities for raw materials.

They are taking about things like specialised bags and filters and cell culture media, single-use tubing and chemicals. They should have been looking at making these things en masse, not just the vaccine itself.

France to resume AstraZeneca tomorrow with the Prime Minister himself having it to show it's safety.

I'm not suprised, they had 38,000 new cases there today. You have to go back to mid January to see us having those kind of levels.  They are right back in it.  Who knows how many French citizens will die just because of that 3 day pause, it's going to be hundreds.   Their death toll in the next few weeks is going to be scary.  But hey, they've probably saved 1 or maybe 2 people from dying with clots.

2nd jab booked for Saturday. 8 weeks since my first. GP contacted me today. I sit in group 4 of the list, and I'm getting this earlier than I expected. 39 years old. Didn't have a bad reaction with my first jab, hoping for the same again.

Can't wait till we all get through this.

Same surname, same age as me and the same group on the list. Are you me? 😂

Only Monday to Friday. On the weekend everyone calls me Shirley.

Oh, too much info.

Hope you're coping well with shielding, it'll be a relief when that's over too.

Our PM, Erna Solberg (C), has had to publicly apologise for having 13 guests (mostly family members) at a private dinner three weeks ago. Not a good look, as Norway is heading into its worst stage yet of the whole wretched pandemic thing.

Just had one of them there last minute end of day jabs.

Was sat here 20 minutes ago eating Mother’s Day chops, had a phone call asking if I could be there within 10 minutes.

Back now, having been vaccinated.

My coffee is still warm.

The vaccine rollout has been nothing short of spectacular really.

Mrs Sidcow today spent longer in the car waiting out her 15 minutes than she spent queuing/getting jabbed.  Vaccinated on the same day as her 12 years older sister who has cancer in France.

Everywhere you look in Europe daily cases and deaths are creeping up except here.  The vaccines really do work and really are the only way out of this.
