PieFacE Posted September 24, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted September 24, 2018 Really not sure on the 50/50 challenge thingy they've introduced. Kinda just feels like whichever player has the better stats wins the ball regardless of timing. Quite annoying really as someone who usually plays with a lower stat team. GarethRDR
Gameplay's always a bit pants on release, especially with the sliders set to default. Had a pop at the demo and felt like I was wading through treacle, but it was the same in 18 until I started messing around with the AI stuff. You can usually get a much more enjoyable, "arcadey" experience with minor things like whacking the speed up high and turning down the first-touch error but if you really get into it you can sort out most common gameplay gripes (unbeatable keepers, crap shooting, scripting at the end of games and so on). Spent some time trawling through Career Mode vids and to be fair , although the changes this year are predominantly cosmetic they're actually big ticket things which I always assumed they'd never get round to. Kit numbers, shoulder badges and captain's armbands now change with promotion/relegation (massively sated the pedant in me that has, I hated taking teams up through the leagues but then still playing with the wrong livery) and also change between the licensed cup competitions. Regen/youth player faces have had a massive overhaul and allegedly now actually match the player you get on the pitch with their headshot (would almost always get some Senegalese player trot out onto the field and turn out to be a pasty white ginger lad). That wasn't the only thing that needed a fix for youth teams, mind, but it's a bloody good, long-overdue start. Player swap deals are no longer nigh-on impossible, opposing clubs give you more than just one position option for what type of player you can offer them. Apparently player wage AI has been tweaked so it's also easier to actually sell players now, but just how well that works remains to be seen. And contrary to me whinging about it a page or so back, they've actually fixed international squad numbers so they can be changed again. The cynic in me is just hopeful none of this has broken something more fundamental somewhere else. If the only trade-off for sorting all of the above is having John McGinn look like a builder I'd be unsure about hiring, that's fine with me.

Dante_Lockhart
Booted this up last night. Did all the usual FUT set-up and completed some chemistry collections, then headed over to Be a Pro and tweeked my guy, had a few games. Will start a Villa career tonight. Dante_Lockhart
Remembered how much I hate scouted in FIFA. I've got no idea who to buy after selling a load of my players >_< Hutton, Elmo, Jedi, Whelan, Hogan and a lot of the 55-59 rated youngsters gone. Need a LB immediately. Brought in Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic for 4m, so he'll partner Chester. Tuanzebe is classed a RB so he'll stay there with Bree backing him up. Taylor is starting at LB but want to replace him. I've made an offer for FM17 favourite Juan Sanchez Mino. Happy with my attacking options. Tammy, Ghazi, Bolassie, Hourihane, Grealish, McGinn. Koj, Adomah, Lansbury, to rotate in. PieFacE Posted September 27, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted September 27, 2018 Really dislike this game ATM. Feels horrible to play. It's really shit that there's not a decent enjoyable football game to play. This FIFA seems to force "good" players to be reliant on doing shitty skill moves all the time. Urgh. Not sure how much of this has carried over into the new game, but I had a strict setup that I'd do for every career mode in 18 that was about as optimised as you could get it. For the 6 scout instructions, I'd have: #1 - Any ability, any position, contract under 1 year, age 23-35 (used this to pick up expiring contract players on a freebie from January onwards). #2 - Promising, any position, age 16-21 (used this to find youth prospects). #3-#6 - All remaining scouts set to first team quality and whatever positions your squad was weakest in with all other parameters set to default. One thing that I hadn't realised previously and that the game doesn't make clear is that if you have a transfer scout and don't assign him to a specific country, you can have him scout players across multiple countries (you have to manually search for these players yourself and select the "scout player" option under each individual one). Found this useful to cover the "lesser" leagues, so I'd always have my first 5 scouts assigned to the strongest countries and 1 that I could send wherever I wanted (if you keep that last scout unassigned he can even be used to scout additional players in the countries you're already scouting, above the restricted limit). Speaking of "manual" scouting, I found this the best way to get young prospects if you don't mind spending the time on it and know what you're looking for. You can actually find out almost instantly without scouting if a player is worth picking up doing the following: Look for players in a position or league you want using the search function, set the age range from 16-21 (might be worth doing a few separate search in increments of two years i.e. 16-17, 18-19, 20-21 as there is a limit on the number of players this search returns, so if there's a large number of matches then some will be excluded). When the search is done, if you click on an individual player to bring up their profile and they have any of the following text underneath them, then they're worth picking up: "Showing great potential" = their potential is between 80-84 "An exciting prospect" = potential between 85-89 "Has potential to be special" = potential 90+ It's worth noting that if a player's overall rating is 59 or less, this text won't be displayed regardless (the player will still have that same potential, but you won't be able to do this check until they have a rating of at least 60). The same applies once a player is aged 22+, the text won't appear even if the player has one of those high potentials. This can also come in useful when you're setting up your youth squad/scouting; if one of your youth scouts finds a player with a rating of 60+ but hasn't narrowed their potential yet, I would promote them to the senior team at this point and look at their individual info in the Squad menu, as they too will have the above text if their potential is high enough to fall into one of those categories. This is a great way of getting your own quality youth players into the first team faster and cuts back on the likelihood of having a bloated youth squad that you can't add more scouted youth players to. If the youth player I promoted doesn't have one of those pieces of text, I'd just release them. Be aware that, unless the function has been tweaked for 19, you were strictly limited to 2 player releases per season so to get round this I'd just save before I promoted a player, reload the game if they turned out to be naff then just cut them straight from the youth team where there's no release limits (you used to and should be able to release as many players as you want, I've never understood the rationale behind limiting this in later iterations). Dante_Lockhart
Just brought Alphonso Davies for 4m and stuck him at LB (Following Bruce's footsteps). 72 overall at the moment but looks legit so gonna train him up. Gonna be screwed next year with all the loans finishing XD

GarethRDR
For all of your long-term goalkeeper needs, 20 year old Karlo Letica at Club Brugge is 6'7 tall, good enough overall to go straight into the Villa line-up, has 80+ potential and a £5m buyout clause. Also Cahill, Freuler, Markovic and Ramalho on a free are must pick-ups, especially if you get back to the Prem at the first bite.
Dave-R
I just bought fifa 19 and second game in and I why like wow, what have they done to the keepers, I mean my keeper twice just watched the ball roll on by LMAO, I was like no way that never used to happen. So now the keepers are very real, real as to the point they really do make blunders. I managed to get me the ultimate bundle with all the packs, got enough to make a alot of national teams which is great. Only one villa player at the moment though which is Adomah, so alot of work to do on a villa team. Does anyone know if all the players brought in on loan were added to villa on fifa or do we have to go digging them up?? cheers..

GarethRDR
The 'keepers are the biggest problem by a mile thus far, they are universally terrible. Any speculative shot on target, regardless of distance/power/GK ability results in a goal far too often. I started turning the Goalkeeper sliders for both user and AI up by about 5 points per game and it's taken until they were 95+ to have a noticeable impact. Sorely tempted to crank them right up to 100.
