It was a great card of fights, and a good advert to put out to people new to watching the sport. Oh and those that claim its gay men who just hug each other on the floor.. Ive got a few mates who think that so telling them to watch this card on the repeat last night would have silenced them.

Bob Cooks advice to Cain between round 2 and 3. "Take down this top notch BJJ blackbelt when you are punch-drunk and stone-dead tired." Great cornerman!

True, and I would agree with the tactic, if it was against anyone but Werdum. He basically went from a 10% chance of winning to zero. He might have saved him some punishment but thats about it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Seemingly Thursday is key.

Jose Aldo's Coach Has Given The First Concrete Update On That Rib Injury

So far, we've had an awful lot of hearsay. Tweets from Brazilian journalists and tidbits emerging from the Nova Uniao camp are all we've had to go off and it's done little to help the sense of worry that one of the biggest sporting events of the year may not be going ahead.

Now, we have something concrete. Andre Pederneiras, Jose Aldo's coach has told Combate exactly what is going on. The Brazilian is 'in deep pain' as a result of the rib injury but he is still set on fighting McGregor in Vegas in a little over two weeks.

He cried. He wants this fight bad, everybody invested a lot in this. I was with him the whole afternoon. He’s heartbroken. He wants to fight anyway. Now we have to wait for the exam results. Aldo is in deep pain.

MMA Fighting are reporting that Thursday morning is the key moment when we'll know whether the fight will go ahead or not. Pederneiras has said that if the fracture is confirmed, we won't see the fight before October.

If the fracture is really confirmed, Aldo will have to stop training, do nothing for three or four weeks until it’s fixed.

He would need a normal time to do a training camp: three months. I believe this fight wouldn’t happen before October.

Fingers crossed for the next 24 hours or so then.

I wonder what will happen if Aldo does have to pull out.

Presume that fight will be rearranged and Lawler McDonald will be the main event.

Dana is a smart guy, knows what fans want and usually can correct any issues but i dont think there is really time to do anything.

Dont get me wrong, id expect fans to understand the circumstances but doesnt meant they/we wont be frustrated

Thank God!

McGregor fighting Mendes for the Interim Belt probably doesnt really make sense for the sport but will keep the fans happy, especially all us Irish going over.

Im super excited!

Can those who actually watch this stuff and who can remove the hype surrounding both fighters give us a preview of what's in store in terms of what both are good at?  Who do you honestly reckon has the tools to win?

It's a  few steps up from anything Conor has fazed yet that's for sure. I saw Conors UFC debut in stockholm and the way he picked Brimage (Who is no scrub) apart made me raise both eyebrows. His best win in my opinion was the way he handled Holloway even though he blew his knee. That showed grit and heart needed to be a champ.

Aldo is a different beast. His kicking-game will not allow Conor to stand the way he does for long, but kicks also lend themselves to counters which Conor does well. Both also hit hard but Conor seams to have mote accuracy. So, for me it's kicks vs accuracy that will be the main point.

For me it's very 50-50 but the mentality gives the edge to the Irishman, he clearly is in Aldos head. But on the other hand, long term champs are just that, for a reason.
