The Overpaid 11

You'll do well to get official figures, they're all skewed anyway due to numerous and various bonuses

Saw a rumour in the week that Milner was offered £165 a week by city, saw someone else claim that he gets £90k a week basic and to earn the top dollar he has to play, score, win the game then win the league and the champions league

This thread is pointless then

No footballer is overpaid. They are paid what the Chairman/Owners think they are worth. If someone's salary doesn't seem to be good value for money its the idiot that agreed to pay it not the idiot who accepted it that we should be blaming.

Pretty much all footballers are overpaid, it's not their fault, but they are.

Yes but some are overpaid more than most :P

How clowns like Jimmy Bullard, Paul McShane or Carlos Cuellar have managed to get big Premier League contracts when they are shit says it all about the game

I know that overrated/overpaid could be one of the same thing, and we do have a overrated thread so please delete if this is deemed to similar.

Just saw a post in the VT speculation thread suggesting that Joey Barton is on about £90k PW. now look, all players are ridiculously overpaid but there are some really bog standard players out there that have earned top player salaries, SWP is another (there is something in common with those two). So it gave me an idea for this thread.

Who are the most overpaid players in the game, relative to their actual ability.

That was me.

"Austin is way behind some of the biggest earners at Loftus Road.

Joey Barton is the highest-paid player at QPR on £90,000-a-week and Croatian winger Niko Kranjcar is on just over £60,000."

Isn't Falcao on some obscene amount like £350k a week? He surely has to be the most overpaid player in the World, Heskey would need to be on twice as much to be as bad as that.

There's no tax in Monaco so AFAIK Man united have to pay him something like ~£400,000 a week to match the wages he was getting in Monaco as his contract (as with all contracts in France) are negotiated amounts after tax.

One of my United supporting buddies claim that Rooney & RVP have clauses in their contracts to match United's highest earner and this is why Falcao was loaned not bought.

Currenty you'd imagine Cech is the most overpaid keeper in football. A lot of money to sit on the bench.

Wonder what Victor Valdes salary is since United were throwing cash away last summer

I really, really, really, really do not rate him as a keeper.

Your mate is a fecking idiot then and pulled that straight out of his arse. Falcao was signed on loan because of his injury issues and we weren't going to throw 50m at a crock and it has turned out to be a good idea.

Falcao also doesn't get 400k. You have to take a large chunk off of all reported wages as they are a load of shite and somehow increase every week. The papers can't get transfer fee right either, the BBC's reporting on the Memphis Depay deal is embarrassing, they don't even know the difference between euros and pounds.

He was a key component for the way barca play though, he's was a decent keeper in the best team in the world so sometimes unfairly got branded with the weak link tag, and then every error he made was highlighted

But then he's had the chance to go somewhere and show he's better than that, get out of his comfort zone and go prove doubters wrong, and he's sat on utds bench instead

He is very weak on set pieces. He is worse than Given or Mignolet, most of games Barcelona lost in Europe has been to British teams and Celtic and Chelsea really done him on set-pieces last few games

Unfortunatley on VT alot of shite is spouted without any ounce of proof

While Tommy's on here, surely we would have to consider Anderson for any analysis of the most overpaid players in world football?

Oh don't even get me started on him. I'm just glad he is finally gone, absolute joke he is. He played a couple u21 matches this season and was easily the worst player on the pitch each time. He gives hope to everyone that you can play for Manchester United for 8 years by doing nothing. He still can't even speak English.

Its not just VT, it is all forums but you can't expect anything else when the papers are the ones telling them this. Marcos Rojo's cleaner found one of his pay-slips and released a picture of it with 200k on it. Papers then started saying he makes 200k a week failing to understand he is paid monthly. When the media can't even get simple things like that right then you can't expect any better when they are supposed to be the source of info.

Adebayor used to be on 170k from his City days, they paid part of his wages at Spurs as well. Now he has to make due with only the 100k he get from us.

Which would be okey when he's on fire, problem is he play well one season and is completely out of it the next. So you could perhaps say that since he only play 50% of the time, the times he actually is ready to perform you have to pay 200k for
