Queen- Now I'm here from "Live at Wembley". Great DVD that one. And yesterday it was 18 years ago that the great one died. RIP, Freddie.
Don't you ever get TIRED of Queen?

I mean, my all-time favourite bands are probably The Beatles and The Who - but I hardly ever play their records these days, because I just know them TOO well.

Well, it's a bit up and down, tbh. The last few days it's been very much Queen in my car, dvd, etc, but most of the time I listen to many other bands, Queensryche probably being the band I listen to most these days. This time it was just a long time since I had that Wembley-concert on so I just felt for it. :) But I'll probably never get tired of listening to them, no. Every time they're played on the radio I just enjoy.

I think it's been a few pages since I posted some Jimmy...

Girls, girls, girls

There ain't nothin' like 'em in the whole wide world

So damn smart and cute

And it's amazing what they pass off as a bathing suit

into

We are the Folk Song Army

Every one of us cares

We all hate poverty, war, and injustice

Unlike the rest of you squares

There are innocuous folk songs

Yeah, but we regard 'em with scorn

The folks who sing 'em have no social conscience

Why, they don't even care if Jimmy crack corn

If you feel dissatisfaction

Strum your frustrations away

Some people may prefer action

But give me a folk song any old time

The tune don't have to be clever

And it don't matter if you put a couple of extra syllables into a line

It sounds more ethnic if it ain't good English

And it don't even gotta rhyme

(Excuse me, rhyne)

Remember the war against Franco

That's the kind where each of us belongs

Though he might have won all the battles

We had all the good songs

So join in the Folk Song Army

Guitars are the weapons we bring

To the fight against poverty, war, and injustice

Ready, aim, sing!

And in that general vein, Phil Ochs - Love Me I'm a Liberal... the youtube vids of this song have updated lyrics, so no video link.

I cried when they shot Medgar Evers

Tears ran down my spine

I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy

As though I'd lost a father of mine

But Malcolm X got what was coming

He got what he asked for this time

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I go to civil rights rallies

And I put down the old D.A.R.

I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy

I hope every colored boy becomes a star

But don't talk about revolution

That's going a little bit too far

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I cheered when Humphrey was chosen

My faith in the system restored

I'm glad the commies were thrown out

Of the AFL-CIO board

I love Puerto Ricans and Negroes

As long as they don't move next door

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

The people of old Mississippi

Should all hang their heads in shame

I can't understand how their minds work

What's the matter, don't they watch Les Crain

But if you ask me to bus my children

I hope the cops take down your name

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I read New Republic and Nation

I've learned to take every view

You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden

I feel like I'm almost a Jew

But when it comes to times like Korea

There's no one more red, white, and blue

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I vote for the Democratic Party

They want the UN to be strong

I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts

He sure gets me singing those songs

I'll send all the money you ask for

But don't ask me to come on along

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Once I was young and impulsive

I wore every conceivable pin

Even went to the socialist meetings

Learned all the old union hymns

But I've grown older and wiser

And that's why I'm turning you in

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

/me wonders if any UKians tried a version of this, perhaps with "New Labour" for "a liberal"...

Yup.

The People's Flag Is Palest Pink

"The People's Flag Is Palest Pink", also known as "The Red Flag Once a Year" or the "Battle Hymn of the New Socialist Party", is a parody of the song "The Red Flag".

It is intended to satirise the lack of socialist principles in the British Labour Party. It long predates the reforms associated with Tony Blair. It was widely known in the 1960s, sometimes sung during late night parties at student conferences. Versions of this song have been recorded and released at least twice by singer/songwriter Leon Rosselson under the title of "Battle Hymn of the New Socialist Party" between the late 1960s and the early 2000s and he may claim credit for authorship of the song, although a version which began "The people's flag is palest pink, mum washed it in the kitchen sink" was popular among school children in the fifties and may have inspired Rosselson's version.

It is sung to the tune "O Tannenbaum/Oh Christmas Tree". There are variants, but it runs something like this:

The people's flag is palest pink

It's not the colour you might think

White collar workers stand and cheer

The Labour government is here

We'll change the country bit by bit

So nobody will notice it

And just to show that we're sincere

We'll sing The Red Flag once a year

The cloth cap and the woollen scarf

Are images outdated

For we're the party's avant garde

And we are educated

So raise the rolled umbrella high

The college scarf, the old school tie

And just to show that we're sincere

We'll sing The Red Flag once a year

One variant includes the verse:

The People's flag is slightly pink

It's not as red as people think

The working class can kiss my arse

I've got the foreman's job at last
