When did the Apple / Iphone topic become unpinned from the 2nd top of the tech forum.

As a follow up to this my daughters media streamer remote died a couple of weeks ago so bought an Android 4.1 Tv Box of ebay for £50 including the airmouse and its fantastic. It will stream everything of the Plex Media Server PC, even some stuff the old media streamer wouldnt plus she can play games on there to. Infact having seen this maybe Google should merge Google TV in with Key Lime Pie and have just on platform that can then have access to pretty much all the apps on Google Play. I know that I do not use the Google TV box in the way you are supposed to ie with Sky, Freeview or Virgin feed going through the box to the TV so you can overlay stuff on top but then who can do that on a family TV?

I did suspect that it wouldnt be all out war as if they did then you would have to loose some of the main characters otherwise it would be totally unbelievable. David Morrisey has signed up for series 4 so looks like his character will become a regular.

This week in Google on twit is one I have got into recently. Tried Android Police and it seemed like a bunch of drunks got together and talk about android. It soon got deleted. I tried one called UK Tech which I can only assume was a joke. The 2 presenters used Iphones and Ipads, and one had Galaxy Nexus but had sent back his Nexus 4. After about 10 minutes they started to claim that Google Apps work and looked better on iOS than the do on Android. I am afraid it got deleted.

No one on the podium looked happy did they............

Interesting first race. Thankfully Red Bull well Vettel was not as quick through the race as he first appeared from the opening few laps. Ferrari look like they may be competitive this season as both drivers did well. Lotus and Mr Personality did well and hopefully they can continue this through the season. What the flip has happened at McLaren? way off the pace and seemingly behind Force India who if they hadnt cocked up Sutils last tyre change could have done really well for his first race back after 12 months off.

Got round to watching Dredd last night...meh. The whole good guys versus bad guys was done so much better in Die Hard in all honesty. The Psychic girl suddenly lost her powers just at the time when the prisoner tried his move and the whole Gatling gun scene was bloody ridiculous. 4/10

If you dont mind not running the latest software I would imagine it could be a close call between the S4 and the HTC One. As nice as they both are and spec wise they look fantastic I cannot see myself buying anything other than a Nexus device in future.

If those leaks are real you just know the tech journos are going to jump all over Samsung for lack of innovation....... Looks like HTC will be quite happy though.

Anyone heard that Lerner has officially announced the club is up for sale or have I just been wound up.

The Google Finance Officer (I think) said that Motorola products lacked the wow factor and they had 18 months worth of development in the pipeline that they had to drain before they could bring out something that was to their standard. Now if you look at when Google first purchased Motorola it was just about 18 months ago although it wasnt officially rubber stamped till a fair bit later. I would imagine by Google IO the 18 months will definitely be up and the Xphone will be announced.

Considering that the Google TV Platform has been out for a few years it does at time feel very beta ish. The lack of apps will be the thing that kills it in my opinion. Infact I would go so far as to say if it didnt run Plex I would probably be looking at getting rid. The Samsung Homesync in comparison does look like it has the potential to be a better Google TV experience than Google can make and with a 1TB hard drive to house your media it might well be the thing I get to replace my ageing Dell PC which at the moment is being used to house my media files.

Ok had time to have a little play and I am undecided. Firstly these are supposed to sit between your cable / sky box whoose video passes through, you can then use it to control your box and use the search function for both online and your subscription content which I am not doing and infact couldnt do because the Vizio only knows about the USA, you cannot enter a UK "Zip" code or make it UK based without rooting which amaziningly hasnt been cracked yet so if I had bought it for that it would be back on ebay. The apps I had read were few and far between and that is still the case so christ knows what it was like when the Logitech Revue came out. I havent really looked at games but might have a try over the weekend. I have Plex Server running on the main media pc and use the Plex app to stream content from there and this part works beautifully, This is the main reason I bought it and for £50 there are other streamers available but none that you can tinker with as much. The remote needs a bit of getting used to and on the side with the panel to control moving the pointer you could really do with a button to work as the left mouse button click as at the moment you have to tap on the panel which can have the effect of moving the pointer of what you are trying to click on. I will be trialling over the weekend if it is possible to play catchup tv content through the Chrome browser as that would be a big plus. I can see why the Android Tv Sticks on ebay are so popular as they run Android 4.0 and presumably have access to far more apps than Google TV does.

Surely that makes it a phone? It appears to be aimed at people who would use it as their normal phone, at least that was the impression I got. Either way, if I saw someone whip that out to make a call with I'd laugh out loud. And, to be honest, if it had a nice silver apple on the back of it, most people in this thread would too. I'm not sure it does. How people use phones seems to change drastically year on year, but people's attitude towards that change is noticeably slower. It was barely a decade ago when some people would laugh out loud at anybody who had a mobile. I'm sure there were people who scoffed at the idea of a camera phone, or an internet enabled phone. It seems we reached the inflection point where these devices went from being a phone with a computer bolted on to a computer which happens to be able to make phone calls quite some time ago and these two thirds tablet, one third phone devices are on the up and up. I work on a commuter railway and just going about my day to day business I often see what the most popular gadgets are and the Samsung Note has been a spectacular success with businessmen who need a good web browser, email client, battery life and the ability to make calls. It's no surprise at all that other companies are copying the idea, and while the advert linked seems to imply they are aiming the device at twentysomething student/graduate types, that doesn't mean that they are not aiming it at other demographics either. Yes, you might look like a bit of a dick of you hold it next to your head but there are plenty of ways around that. People dont even bat an eyelid at anybody making a call via earbuds these days. That's what I'd do if I had that phone. 5-6 years ago you had a mobile phone for making calls and texting on, maybe you had it set up to read emails. Smartphones today are used for so much more and consequentially will have and need a bigger screen. I wouldnt be suprised if mobiles will end up with a screen size of up to 6 inches and tablets will then move up from 7 inch to 9 inch with smaller bezels.

Managed to get a Vizio Co Star of ebay yesterday after just missing out on the Sony Model going for £65.00 unused...... It will be going in the bedroom and will mainly be used as a media streamer, the other functions it offers are a bonus. Once it comes and I get it installed I will try and give a bit of an overview of it for anyone thats interested....................

Popped into the local PC World on saturday as my son needs a new laptop, and I thought I would checkout the new Microsoft Tablets at the same time.........not one on display, nor over at one of the biggest Currys in the UK. So Microsoft what is the point of spending millions on advertising if you cannot go into the biggest PC retailer in the UK and try one?

The act is illegal but it makes you wonder as so often on the web etc you see discussion of media servers and there are an awful lot of respected brands who sell them. You have to wonder if they will ever update the copyright law so that you may have a digital copy of the media file as long as you still keep and own the original format it was supplied on. Similar to the ultraviolet thing which the studios are trying to push.

Interesting that Three have announced that they will not be charging people any extra for 4G/LTE use when it becomes available. I am sure they do sim only deals for under £12 with "All you can eat data" and if you then get 4G at no extra cost EE could be in for a bit of a bashing.

I really like the look of the Note II but having a Nexus now means you get used to updates being in days rather than months. I suppose I could drop a custom rom on it but with the Note there will be so much stuff thats built in to Touchwiz (for the stylus mainly) I really cannot see how that will work.

Walking Dead Season 3 returns on Sunday in the states

Sunday night the guy from 3 doors down got stabbed and killed so the road was full of ambulances, riot vans and police cars. The police were still at the house this morning. Some argument that got completely out of hand really quickly. Sadly the guy has a teenage daughter who you hope wont have seen the incident but then cannot really imagine she didnt. I have known the guy for nearly 10 years so its been a bit of a kick in the balls.
