  1. I know you've edited your post now, but I was going to go on a tangent anyway whilst answering the question I assume you've since found the answer to. I have some similar concerns, especially seeing as they are somehow (final episode speculation /spoilers follow) Perhaps it'll be part of the opening and only a couple of mins long, but I do wonder about the pace of the final episode as it isn't a particularly long one in terms of length - in fact it's the shortest of the series at 43 minutes (reportedly). Would be wrong to judge it before seeing it though, as they've nailed basically everything about it so far.
  2. Then we realised you could say their motto as 'fart et labore'.
  3. When I was at school my friends used to call them 'Blackbum Rovers'.

    The Royal Family

The weird part is covering them up for when they chuck the oil on his face. Well, assuming they do the same as for the Queen. It's only the same stuff they use if you have a CoE Baptism. Source: went to a CoE Baptism a few months ago, and the God Man said so. And I got to see that oil get chucked on the kids face in person. That one wasn't vegan tho. Had whale vom in it.
  5. Well, Chisholm is one of three staff who are definitely SCS4 (himself, Case, and Barrow (National Security Advisor)) at the Cabinet Office. I'm familiar with the above, what muddied the waters for me was Wiki's suggestion that The relevance of all of this is probably unimportant, I accept. I've seen it happen a few times in the Civil Service where an individual will be odds on amongst colleagues to get a certain promotion, but they don't, and the assumption is that their line manager has had some sort of influence on the outcome of that exercise. They then get a promotion elsewhere...but come back as their former line managers boss later down the line, and in my mind I like to think they won't forget the prior indiscretion. "Here's a really shit job no one wants, take care of that for me sweet cheeks x". The circs are vastly different here of course, but I do hope Gray is having a little chuckle to herself at the expense of Case.
  6. That could well be the case yes - it's the sort of thing you'd expect to be able to find somewhere, but if you can, I can't. Lots of details about SCS2 and above expenses available as you'd expect, and their latest pay award, but that just refers to SCS4 as perm sec, and SCS3 as director general, which is the norm. I would also expect second perm secs to be referred to as second perm sec for X department which already has a perm sec, which would make sense if she was some sort of deputy for someone. The role she just resigned from doesn't have a perm sec though, but perhaps they deem it to be a lesser role. There doesn't seem to be any doubt she was the 'right' grade to be promoted though, for exactly the reasons you say. Either way, Case comes off as a fool.
  7. I've been a civil servant for about 15 years, in which time I have crossed paths with some of our most senior graded staff - most recently Emma Hadad, current Director General for Asylum & Protection at the Home Office - that's SCS3 (Senior Civil Servant Grade 3, with just SCS4 above it, being the perm secs). Generally really decent, driven, folk. For what's it worth I find the above a little confusing, as I was under the impression Sue Gray already was an SCS4, which is the position she resigned from the other day. If it was a lateral transfer fair enough, those moves get veto'd all the time, but the quote there refers specifically to a promotion, which couldn't have been possible as there isn't a grade above SCS4. Perhaps she was promoted afterwards, which really would make Case look like a fool if he did indeed veto an earlier promotion for Gray.
  8. Only one winner for me
  9. I'd love to see them - or anyone - do a big budget adaptation of Childhood's End. It wasn't that long ago Syfy did one, but it wasn't amazing by any stretch, and it's the absolute pinnacle of sci fi literature for me.
  10. Is this a Netflix film? It has potential to be good, as would a decent adaptation of Atlas Shrugged to explore Rand's ideas a bit more. The sets for Fallout (Amazon I think?) do look great and at the very least should capture the style of those games.
  11. I can't ever shake the Evangelion live action concept art from my mind whenever I hear Weta mentioned. That was nearly 20 years ago, incredible. I don't think I'd trust even HBO with that...
  12. Tons of FFXVI previews out there at the moment, I won't post any particular one as if you're interested, I imagine you'll be able to get the take on it from your favourite commentators. Short version is it really does seem a long-awaited move for the series in terms of tone and gameplay. Due to the devs involved, it's probably not surprising that there is a DMC / Dragon's Dogma vibe to it. Supra excite.
  13. Me and my grandad used to do this and keep tabs on players at the time - but we're talking 96-02, and a lot of non league. But, a prem player who was always selected by us was Julian Dicks
  14. @limpid The issue seems to have stopped. I have made no changes of any sort to my device or to chrome. I think it's muscle memory, but like a lot of people I'm sure, when I have a couple of spare minutes I'll browse on my phone. So by default, I open chrome, start looking at various websites I frequent, VT being one of them. And hey presto...no screen tearing this morning. I will update if this changes, but I've gone back to threads where it was occurring, and they're fine now. Would be interested to hear from @lapal_fan and @villa4europe to see if they have noticed any changes since last night
  15. The writers did such a good job at humanising the antagonists thus far in the series, that it's now presented a bit of a problem when they don't go to the same lengths for all the 'enemies' encountered. The role of the three bad guys who rock up and attack Joel and Ellie 'because they are bad' is a very video game-y thing to do, so when it happened here, it felt a bit...off. I accept I may be jumping the gun, and exactly who they were and what they were doing may become apparent in the next episode. It's also true that for the arc of these characters, this attack must occur, and how else do you realistically do that? And do you have to humanise every 'bad guy' they encounter? Well of course not, that would probably be impossible. I suppose what I'm saying is that it was just indicative of how good the writing has been thus far that when something of this manner occurred, I felt like it stood out like a sore thumb. Even with the wee references to 'raiders' made throughout the series, and that episode. I did love that the three guys looked just like enemy NPCs in the game, and as already pointed out the little bits of set up for Part 2 are great, and the Jackson set - that was just incredible.
  16. I hate those stupid glasses. I loved Gaunter O'Dim in Hearts of Stone and appreciate that the devs came out and said his character was inspired by Walter O'Dimm / Marten Broadcloak / Randall Flagg, as if it wasn't obvious, but nice to see the acknowledgement. As a massive Stephen King fan it's very easy to imagine that the world of the Witcher is another level of The Tower, Master Mirror is their Walking Dude, Geralt is their Gunslinger, the other Witchers his Ka-tet... Having played it, and then read up on the differences in outcomes to the finale of that questline though, I do want to go back and do something different, as the other rewards seem really good (if not fitting to my head canon for Geralt). All Things serve the Beam.
  17. I'm afraid not. I did get excited when I saw @Stevo985 had posted in here thinking, yes, someone else affected by this - perhaps we can narrow down the similarities a bit and get to the bottom of it, but alas, it seems it is just the two of us. I will stop using Chrome on my mobile to avoid the problem - I appreciate that doesn't help find out the cause, though.
  18. I have to admit, when I first noticed the issue I thought it would be hardware related at my end. So I was quite relieved to see @lapal_fan make a post about the same problem. I can only assume there is something about our devices and/or the current software versions we're using which makes us unique among regular users. Very odd indeed. The issue persists for me since being added to the supporters group.
  19. Yes, chrome and android as up to date as they can be on my device. Android Emui 12.0.0.139 on Huawei P30 Pro Chrome 110.0.5481.65 It certainly appears to be the same problem based on the screen provided by @lapal_fan As I attempted to type this message in chrome, the 'add files' button triggered the screen tearing issue, for lack of a better term. I've now moved to another browser to finish this post. It certainly seems to be caused by items within threads like quoted posts and imbedded images. A thread will be fine until I reach such a post, and it will then cause it to become nigh on unreadable. Example - I have just read page 9 of the Persona thread in games and gaming, as @Risso post has started a new page. No issues reading it in chrome. I then went to the next unread post in that forum, which was @Farlz post in the fantasy league thread. As I scroll up everything is fine until I reach the post above @a-k. Screenshot attached. I continue to use chrome for browsing other websites on the same device with no issues.
  20. I've found it's any thread with a quote or an embedded picture. This thread was fine before the quote - now it isn't
  21. Same issue for me, same OS and browser as @lapal_fan Other browsers are fine.
