  1. Don’t forget they won the Champions League in 2021 so the new owners threw all that money at the European Champions. What did they do wrong? Who knows but it’s going to make for an amazing book one day. The common consensus just seems to be obvious and boring, they bought too many players all at once with no obvious thinking about how they were going to fit together. When your manager can’t even take a training session because he’s got too many players to deal with, only he can’t bin any of those players because they are all full internationals on long contracts with high wages then you’ve just got into a tangle that’s gonna take years to undo. That said: they’ll win a trophy before 90% of all the other clubs in the league manage to.
  2. That’s the thing though. As I understand it he couldn’t legally sign professional forms until his 17th birthday, which was June 29th. Transfer window opened on July 1st. He would have been a free agent for 24 hours and then could have gone anywhere for free or whatever fee a tribunal would have set (which would have been next to nothing) but he chose to sign professional forms at Blues because he didn’t want to screw them over.
  3. I do. The fact he came through the academy at the Blues is neither here nor there. I think it was class of him to sign pro forms there so they’d get a fee for him when he could literally have left for free if he’d waited 24 hours. Fast forward three years and he’s arguably Real Madrid’s best player, if he maintains these levels (and not everybody does, just look at Dele Ali) then he’s the next England captain when Kane retires and if he helps England do well then I’m 100% behind him.
  4. Tiago Dantas. The reason why we’ve had the early kick off is because his mom wants him in bed by 8pm as it’s a school night.
  5. The really satisfying thing here is AZ look like a decent side and we’re doing them. I feel like they’ll still fancy their chances at getting back into the game and we’ve picked up a couple of unnecessary yellow cards but overall that was a superb 45 minutes of football.
  6. It’s just a much more open game. Zrinjski had 8 men behind the ball all night and were difficult to break down. AZ are happier to go toe to toe with us and there’s a lot of space to exploit. I still think if we’d scored early against Zrinjski then we’d have won by 3 or 4.
  7. Pains me to say it, but Robbie Savage has become an excellent co commentator these days.
  8. He’s definitely still got it in his game but it was a very good press from AZ.
  9. Yep, and of course once you get a reputation for being able to go either way then defenders start second guessing themselves and affording you more space. I'm not sure who is on penalties for Spurs now Kane has left but if Son gets them it would be hilarious if he even decided to mix up which foot he was going to shoot with there. I think nominally he's right footed (62 right footed goals, 44 left) but even that stat might be more to do with where he's being used tactically rather than which foot he thinks is dominant.
  10. Son has always known where the back of the net is, he's averaged 20 goals a season since he signed for Spurs (actually it's 18.125 if you want to be anal about the maths) which is why I don't think the loss of Harry Kane is as big of a deal as it could have been. Son is genuinely one of the most two footed players I've ever seen and defending against a guy who is an incredible finisher on either side must be a nightmare.
  11. I hope whoever threw the firework gets hit with a stiff penalty.
  12. There's probably people on socials complaining about MotD2 because we were on last.
  13. I listened to the same show and I didn't take the same thing from their discussion at all. We've not tried to bait the press as much this year as we did last season because it just doesn't work as well anymore. One thing about Unai is that he's not a one trick pony. The high line thing is a valid observation, but clearly we are pretty good at playing it. One of the points in using it is that you've got to make the opposition try to think they can beat the offside trap so they put men in front of the ball when it's being contested, this gives our midfielders license to play closer to the opposition box than they otherwise would. It's a risky strategy but just because you get dicked over a couple of times a season doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. I think one of the reasons we are starting to see big score lines in matches between good teams more often than we did in the 00s is precisely because people have realised it's better to stick to your principles than be timid and reactionary. The same debate used to exist over zonal marking, playing it out from the back or putting defenders on the post at corners.
  14. Ah yes. He did get a forearm in the back of the head, and while I doubt he'd have gone down as easily or for as long as he did if they were having a fist fight, it's not like he didn't get hit in the head is it?
  15. I don't even know what incident he's referring to.
  16. I think Ings was there just to help with squad depth for the second half of the season when they were going deep in Europe. He scored a couple of goals, made plenty of appearances and they stayed up comfortably and won a trophy. Clearly he's not pulled up many trees in London but I'm not sure he was ever expected to. I'm sure they'll listen to any offers they get in January but I feel Ings has got one more Premier League move in him even if it's to join a relegation battle. If you're a side like Palace or Brentford and he's available for somewhere in the region of £10m it might be worth looking at.
  17. You can move pretty quickly with squad development once you qualify for the Champions League, a whole other world opens up in terms of revenue you can generate, players you can attract and so on. If you put us into the Champions League now I'd fancy us to get through a group stage, but only if it was played as a tournament in isolation like a World Cup, combining it with demands the Premier League puts on a squad is a step too far, as is evidenced by our performances when we make a lot of changes. I'm sure everybody at the club will be aiming for 70 points which will be there or thereabouts. We've got 68 points from 36 Premier League games under Emery so far.
  18. The goal scares opposition players too. Zouma showed him outside onto his left foot; didn’t matter.
  19. I wouldn't begrudge him a move to the Saudi league on the back of this.
  20. He's just been sacked by Mainz for posting that story.
