  1. Can’t really add much to what’s already been said. The biggest threat to our goal all night was an almost comedic half stumble by Olsen. Pau still looks vulnerable physically but his range of passing is exquisite, the ball for Duran’s goal is something a prime David Beckham would have been proud of. Thought the midfield were just on a different level to Hibs even I thought they were all playing with one eye on Anfield this weekend. Duran looked excellent and I had to pinch myself when I remembered Kellyman is still only 17. Hibs fans probably the best I’ve seen in 30 years of going to Villa Park.
  2. He's not going to displace Saka or Foden is he?
  3. Too fat. He needs to be Solly Lighter to get in the squad.
  4. Welcome to the internet!
  5. I thought Burnley sold Ben Mee?
  6. Harry Kane has hit the ground running in Germany then. Three goals and an assist in his first two Bundesliga games. Loving the ball they're using in Germany this season too. Proper Adidas Telstar style design.
  7. I think that’s a fair point if Neil Maupay is running through on goal but literally anybody else?
  8. So you can take someone out who is clean through on goal as long as it's fairly early in the game? Do you propose a minute where a RED card should be given? Second half? After an hour? If it's already 3-0 or something? It was a professional foul. Van Dijk took out the man because it's all he could do to prevent Isak shooting, and that's a red card whether it's after 27 seconds, 27 minutes or in injury time at the end of the second half.
  9. Agreed, but it's one of those where I completely get why he shot. Two minutes into his debut, game is (probably) already won and he's clean through on goal? Should have squared it, but I forgive him. On a wider point, towards the end of last season it felt like a bit too much was going through Watkins. It was great watching him score so frequently but we were in danger of becoming one dimensional. Stop Watkins and you stop Villa. Bringing in players like Zaniolo and Diaby should give the opposition a lot more to think about as we've got a few players in the squad who will be aiming for double figures this season.
  10. It's clear we miss Mings, I don't think that 15 minute wobble in the second half happens with him (and Martinez) on the pitch. Torres still needs time to adjust to the Premier League, he's going to get targeted by the opposition a lot in forthcoming games but enough of the negatives, we looked sensational for long periods in the first half, comfortably holding Burnley at arms length and cutting through them at will. Cash gets the headlines but I felt McGinn was our best player again, he's just brilliant at the moment, he uses the ball so well and he just doesn't make mistakes. I didn't think he was good enough for a team looking to break the top six of the Premier League but he could probably hold down a spot in a Champions League team on current form.
  11. That doesn’t happen often with Mings in the team.
  12. I seem to be in a minority of people who are convinced they’ll stay up. They’ll do the bare minimum to stay up (again) but they’ve got a nack of getting results when they really really need to.
  13. I don’t think they are in the same weight class. Haaland has probably got four inches and a stone in weight on Carlos.
  14. I think I heard this on a podcast previewing the game but I’ve checked and it’s true, but Hibs two most expensive signings ever are both players who we signed. Second is John McGinn who they bought for a million and sold to us for £3.75m and their club record signing and only other player they’ve ever paid more than a million for? Ulysses de la Cruz.
  15. I agree with Emery's assessment there. We were really sloppy for the first twenty minutes, passes were under hit, the movement wasn’t there, Torres looked shaky but we can throw a punch. I think the score line says more about the talent gap than anything good we did tactically.
  16. my main takeaway from the game is that Hibs are terrible at football.
  17. C’mon, moneybags Chelsea getting spanked and their latest £100m+ signing conceding a penalty on his debut against ten men is so funny it needs to go on straight away.
  18. When have the league ever demonstrated they care about players?
  19. Remember how they added loads of injury time in the first couple of games of the group stages of the World Cup and then just kinda stopped? I figure that’s what will happen in the Premier League too. All this added time will be an August and September thing then things will go back to normal when everybody pretends they got the message.
  20. Nah. I think Unai will bring the kids on and just shut the game down when it’s 8 or 9 - nil.
  21. I wouldn’t be so quick to dance on their grave. Last year they lost at home to Brighton on the opening day and followed that up by getting smashed 4-0 at Brentford. Still won the League Cup and finished third.
  22. First time I’ve looked at this thread in weeks. Been here since Tuesday afternoon, turns out we arrived on a bank holiday (assumption of Mary) so everything was closed but me and the boy went to San Mames to do the tour on Wednesday and did a couple of museums yesterday, one in the old town and the Guggenheim. Had provisionally planned to go to San Sebastián today but it’s gonna be really hot, I’m not entirely sure how to get bus tickets or where the buses go from. We did get tickets to the Sociedad vs Celta game so I guess we will be figuring that out on the fly tomorrow.
