  1. Yeah thought Maguire went without saying obviously. I rate Konsa over Guehi but watch the former far more in the flesh. Colwill has potential but I'm not sure that he is, in this moment, a better player. Realistically an international manager should be picking players based on current ability. Dunk I consider one of the best defenders in the league.
  2. If Gareth watched him there and doesn't pick him he might as well give up on England. Really head-scratching that the likes of Guehi and Colwill are in over him. Just can't be better sorry. Absolutely shut them down almost by himself at times. His positioning is as good as anybody I've seen play for Villa. Always there to make the interception/block and always has his feet sorted in 1v1. Noticeably more vocal too. Said it before but I honestly think he's as good as Mellberg and is pushing Laursen. Comfortably the most all-round defender we have had in ages either way.
  3. Might be being a bit over-critical because atmosphere was quite good (though a bit weird we barely sung when they came out?) but people need to stop panicking and creating negativity when things get a tiny bit uncomfortable. People around me getting really aggy at 3-1, just relax. Same happened v Burnley at 1-2. It's the Prem, teams will have a spell, but we're winning. If we'd just gone 3-1 or 1-2 up then people would be singing and smiling. It's still the same score! We've thrown away leads before so I get it, but it's only gonna increase the chance of it happening again and no doubt that negative energy has contributed to those times too!
  4. Hard disagree. They usually only sing "EV-ER-TON" and boo. Genuinely one of the most whiny fanbases in the league imo and I'm a Villa fan (I suppose you guess that tbf)
  5. What have missed here sorry? Nerve damage?
  6. Who cares though? We should hold ourselves to a higher standard.
  7. Hope we lose and he gets completely abused by the fans and resigns after his claims he will "walk when he's no longer wanted". Foden stuff the latest set of ridiculous quotes - as if he can't find a place for Foden behind the striker over Henderson as an unnecessary second box-to-box. And yes he doesn't play AM because KdB does (but also he came on in the CL final and did play there???)
  8. Can't remember who it was, but recall there being heated debate about selling Grealish to Derby for like £4m on here once when we got relegated. Admittedly I think I might have brought it up once or twice since. Many people claimed Nakamba was better than Luiz. On a personal note, I didn't really bat an eyelid when O'Neill compared Young to Messi and Ronaldo. Thought Mings and McGinn were done under Gerrard, wouldn't say that was that outrageous though.
  9. If he plans to leave after the Euros, he might as well go now, given he will only be thinking short-term (and which almost certainly means he sticks with what/who he knows). Not that I've been begging for this to happen for about five years or anything...
  10. Didn't mean it in the sense of not go to any games, just meant I struggle to get wound up about it when I'm watching it on a stream lol
  11. I'm not saying give up though am I? I'm saying when we go behind to these teams we have to take even more risk to get back into it. Just basically gotta roll with the punches and we'll see steady progress under Emery imo. We've seen massive progress already. I'm just not gonna get wound up by these tough defeats to big teams and will judge us on our position and points over the season, not getting beaten up at Anfield and SJP. And yeah, I just can't be a*sed to get so wound up by it sorry.
  12. We're playing high-risk, high-reward football and we're gonna get picked off at times by good teams - especially away from home. And when we go down and take even more risk, we're gonna open ourselves up to some hammerings. It's winning us more points than not since Emery has arrived and we have lost several key players to big injuries. We've won eight in a row at home or something and conceded two goals. Unless you're actually at the ground, which no one in this thread is, there's really no need to get so wound up by these results until they happen against teams we *shouldn't* be losing to.
  13. Being positive: I don't think as a Villa fan I've ever felt we were more "in the game", despite being 2-0 down away at someone like Liverpool. Maybe just me, but testament to Unai's work. We'll get chances.
  14. Just gotta be hopeful it's a calf strain/standard post-serious injury muscular problem. Surely hasn't done it again
  15. Doesn't get injured much but he better not now til Jan!
  16. The PA is always way too loud. No thanks. Drowns out the pre-game atmosphere so much.
  17. Alkmaar is decent place and 30 mins train to Amsterdam and Warsaw is very decent.
  18. I don't even care if Villa players get picked. It's a nice to have, but there are benefits of not picking them. My main gripe is with Henderson. Aside from completely failing the moral question (which he completely misinterpreted by stating "you don't know what you would do in that situation" - well maybe but I was also not the LGBT Ambassador you donut), it makes zero footballing sense. Zero. Henderson will be a worse player not playing good players every week. Furthermore though, by not setting the stand, he is doing nothing to dissuade other English players from moving to Saudi - further damaging the quality of his squad. It is an absolute and utter disgrace. Maguire and Phillips obviously laughable but Henderson is spineless and moronic, and genuinely completely zaps all interest I have (which is a shame because I usually have lots).
  19. Surprised by this - thought he could still offer something. Shows Fabrizio knows f*** all really
  20. Been so so impressed by Diaby especially (and others though) in how good they've been off-the-ball, when looking for pockets of space behind the midfield. Luiz, Torres and to a lesser extent Kamara and Carlos have looked very good at playing these vertical balls to find them as well. It is working seemlessly. I've seen countless examples of it already. Exciting times. We have the variation to play down the wings too, so it's not going to be easy for teams to nullify this for any team. I guess the best way is just to press like maniacs on the player on the ball and the attackers with their backs to goal, which Newcastle did really well. But I don't think there's a better pressing team than Newcastle in the league and that one is out the way. Very optimistic going forward.
  21. The amount of panic is embarrassing. 1-2 up away from home - they're always gonna have a spell. Relax.
  22. I knew there'd be one... Gordon Cowans and Dennis Mortimer in their prime wouldn't be Premier League footballers now I'm afraid mate.
  23. Potentially the best midfielder to ever play for the club
  24. He's rotated throughout his time at Sevilla too. Partially due to Alex Telles and others; partially because he's suspended half the time
