    Have to say, the interviews and thoughts of the leaders of both Hamas and Hezbolah, don’t fill me with optimism when it comes to the possibility of a negotiated solution. The Palestinian authority on the West Bank seem to be more reasonable, in that they don’t seem to want to kill every Jew in the region. I don’t envy anybody who has to bring those three together.

    No. What possible reason would Israel have had to attack Egypt. Other than to prevent an unprovoked attack on them. Don’t know if you were alive then, I was, the Arab nations were constantly manoeuvring to attack Israel. They lived their lives surrounded by people who wanted them erased.

    Unfortunately there are a large number of the membership of the Tory Party who think along the same lines as her. It’s the leadership of that party, that she’s after. Remembering that it’s that membership, that thought Truss would make a good PM, she might be on a winner. Teresa May claimed a few years ago, that people considered the Tories to be the nasty party. Looks increasingly like those people were right.

    Israel’s going nowhere, ever. They are there and they are there to stay. The sooner some people recognise that fact, the sooner there can be serious discussions about providing a State for the Palestinians, who also aren’t going to go away. Deal with the world as it is, not as you’d like it to be.

    We can but hope. With the advent of Tory TV ala GB News and Talk TV, it is more important than ever that power be held to account by mainstream media.

    If this thread is indicative of the level of reasoned engagement we could expect from any future negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, there wouldn’t appear too much ground for optimism

    Have to say. The lowest level yet plumbed, was the statement about ethnic cleansing not inherently being a bad thing. Surely, on reflection, you can see just how wrong that is. Jews, Armenians, Bosnian Muslims,Chechnians, Tartars, and others throughout history, have suffered this. It is not and never will be acceptable under any circumstances.

    The Germans had an expression “ Juden Frei” In effect, ethnic cleansing of any German City. Ethnic cleansing in any context is not acceptable…ever.

    I wonder if a single person on this site has changed or modified their opinions due to reading these posts. I doubt it, and that in itself is indicative of the entrenched views on this issue. It’ll take both sides to move for any solution to be found. After the events of 7th October and after, I’d say we’re further away than ever.

    The one thing guaranteed to make this situation even worse, would be for it to spread to other countries. Perhaps no one else is too keen to join this shit storm. Who can blame them.
