His about face in the summer, was an admission of failure of the previous policy, and nothing I have seen so far has proven the new way forward as having the potential for success.

Surely, instead of just thrusting names out, we should do what is not done when Villa actually discuss a new manager and think about where the club should be going and the ethos we would like to instill? Then select a manager based upon a long term plan for progression. Then when that manager leaves, choose another manager with a similar philosophy. You know, like the successful clubs do.

For me, Lambert has had more time and patience from Villa fans than any other manager. He has been afforded funds, albeit limited, to turn a side that finished just outside the relegation spots playing awful football into a side that finished just outside the relegation spots playing awful football. I think fans want to see more progress from a manager after two and a half years than a reduced wage bill.

We play not to lose. Therefore, Lambert is basically playing for a draw or 1 point a game. If we played to win, we may actually win. Under Lambert it'd take 3 games to earn 3 points. Under a manager who tries to win, it may only take one. If anyone questions whether Lambert plays for a point, look at our point hauls over 38 games.

I don't know for certain, as I only really saw Norwich out of those periods of Lambert's career, but I get the feeling that he's changed his tactical approach when taking charge of Villa. I remember his Norwich side often playing down the wing, whipping in crosses and Grant Holt being on the end of them. With us he seems to have abandoned wingers, and opted to play 3 forwards and fewer attacks resulting in a cross. Maybe he tweaked his style because of the players available. He's always played relatively narrow in my memory. He used the diamond regularly, including against Rodgers' Swansea, whom he has a excellent record against, and has been noted as where rodgers picked the idea for this system up.

There are many teams in the league who have an ethos/plan from top to bottom. Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Swansea, Southampton, Burnley to name but a few.

Lambert has had successes in the market, and failures like any other manager. It's his failure to produce a team on the pitch with any kind of plan or ethos that worries me.

Hence my point that we didn't spend that this year and we can afford £15-20m a season. I think we may be arguing the same point here? I am not advocating £40m spends a season as our club cannot currently sustain that - but we need to be able to through increasing revenue streams as you have noted. I understand why they gave Lambert a new contract. With a club up for sale, a bit of stability is no bad thing in general, but needs to be the right stability and keeping PL is not the right stability.

Hadn't been at his best in recent weeks, but was outstanding again yesterday. So many times during Lambert's tenure he has had to drag us out of a hole with the defence and midfield sat on him, trying to soak up pressure. Good work Brad.
