  1. This, in a way, is the crux of it. American sports have great parity, which is really great. But it comes at a cost and is based on a fundamentally different system than football does. It would be really great if you could get the parity of, say, the NFL, but you can't do that when you have relegation/promotion.
  2. I saw that was how it was described in a bunch of post-match write ups, but I never thought that when it happened. I haven't looked since, but a consensus seems to have formed around that conclulsion.
  3. Right, and one other thing I'll add: Almost all of the time, the first person to recognize a mistake was made was the one who made the mistake. Telling someone who knows they screwed up that they screwed up very often doesn't improve the chances of the outcome that everyone wants: for players to not make mistakes.
  4. I was so impressed with Tammy's energy in his loan spell here. I say that as a matter of context; Watkins offers even more. So much running.
  5. "Fine line" indeed. As a coach (teenagers, mind you), I tell players to constantly give positive reinforcement even if (when) mistakes are made. I will do the job of critiquing. It's so easy for it to spin out of control. Obviously these are professionals, so there is probably more lee way, but if results start turning negative, it can create a toxic atmosphere. My 2 cents
  6. Just popping in to note that he has 8 goals and 4 assists in 34 Premier league appearances. Adama Traore has 5 and 13 in 117.
  7. A ton of people have brought his ACL tears, but it should be a non-factor. Athletes completely recover from ACL tears now.

    Matty Cash

How would this "team of the season" (which includes Cash) do in the Premier League? I suspect they would be decent. https://www.90min.com/posts/90min-s-championship-team-of-the-season-2019-20
  9. @jonjon Just jumping in to say I appreciate your presence and insight on this forum.
  10. Worthwhile consideration. To add to the cost-benefit: Wilson would have basically no re-sale value, but Watkins might. Also, would they both demand the same wages? I suspect Wilson would demand a fair bit more.
  11. Would people prefer Watkins over Callum Wilson?
  12. One of the things that is also clear post-lock down--and this might have something to do with confidence in what his role is--is ridiculous amount of running and energy. If anyone was trying to prove how much they wanted it on the pitch, it was Douglas. And not to be too harsh, but compare his running and energy to, say, McGinn.
  13. One consideration: putting a likely loss on older players protects the younger fullbacks' confidence. I think it's a weak rationale, but not crazy.
  14. He was the hardest working striker that Villa has had in my decade or so of following Villa. Name someone who came close.
  15. Yes, there is, and the first Somali- American congressional representative was just elected from there (also targeted by trump with racist comments today).... anyway... this Luiz guy is in Minneapolis for one reason...
  16. Pretty sure that’s the mall of America in Minneapolis. (Largest mall in the world)
  17. Good article here from The Guardian

And if you watch that highlight video, were it not for distinguishing features, it would be *very* easy to confuse them. It was uncanny how similarly they look in how they play. (Mind you, it's just a highlight video).

    This was precisely my thought.
  20. You can listen here at about 10:30: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07d5jkl
  21. Obviously stoked about being here now, but let's be honest, the Championship is a better competition. Not in terms of talent of course, but in that it's so unpredictable. Now that we're in the Premier League, my expectations are currently very low. That's a good thing. Let's just win a few games and avoid the scare of relegation. Go from there. K. thanks. bye
  22. I hated 96 min 58 seconds of that. It was horrible. Feeling a bit better now.
  23. Fine. Let's talk probabilities: I will take getting the correct call a *significantly* greater percentage of the time. It takes away, for me, positive results that came as a consequence of a bad call, and destroys me when a bad call leads to a negative result against my team.
