  1. They have far more quality in their team than Cardiff though, Cardiff have a midtable squad who overachieved at the start of the season.
  2. If Van Dijk is worth £75m and Burnley another get another £30m for Tarkowski then holding out for £15m for a PL level central defender coming into his peak years is not unreasonable. We paid £8m+ for him too. He is one of our very few signings who has appreciated in value since coming here.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if a PL team comes looking for him in January. Southampton have to replace VVD, WBA could sell Evans and with plenty of other teams looking to strengthen with plenty of money knocking about there should be plenty of activity. I wouldn't sell him for less than £14m (roughly) though.
  4. Nike when they were sponsoring Man Utd did push through/help negotiate some transfers when the club were floundering under Moyes IIRC.
  5. The £15m spent on Hogan really is crazy in comparison to the €150k Preston spent on a superior player in Sean Maguire (bad hamstring injury since October but was scoring goals up until then). Coming from the LOI I can't imagine he would be on anything more than £10k a week too.
  6. Pulis has wasted no time in putting 6 foot 3 centre back Ryan Shotton to full back. They are a big physical team and will be a threat at set pieces especially with our small centre backs and only Jedinak providing any size in the team.
  7. It is believable that we are in financial trouble given that we were a basket case when Lerner left and the same stupidity continued after with the wages and transfer fees that have been squandered. Hopefully Xia is genuine.
  8. Don't forget the fact he is an increasingly injury prone 37 year old and we have inadequate cover.
  9. Apart from Cillessen being a sub for Barcelona and at a stretch Daley Blind or Strootman they have nobody playing for any of Europe's top sides at the moment. Compared to 15-20 years ago it is some decline.
  10. What other Championship team would even consider taking on Whelan or Jedinak and their big wages? They are both stuck here until the summer of 2019.
  11. A 0-0 draw is a big possibility in the Boro game and Bristol although they are in good form are no world beaters. Scrape a win in that one and Bruce will have bought a good bit more time. I wonder has Tony ever read Louise Taylor's famous article on Bruce from his Sunderland days.
  12. I like Kevin Kilbane, he is no footballing genius but makes a decent pundit.
  13. I know there are plenty of central midfielders at the club but Kenny McLean from Aberdeen should be signed on a free transfer at the end of the season(not renewing his contract). Good fit, hungry footballer with good footballing ability and not a bad age at 26. Wages can't be too high coming from Scotland higher. Whelan and Jedinak will both be (even more) unable to run with old age next season anyway.
  14. He was able to build a team around an AM in Taarabt when he took QPR up.
  15. Kevin Long will go for £30m next season then.
  16. This is the signing which makes next year their year according to their fans.
  17. Not when they go up though. They have a big physical team already, Pulis will have them rock solid at the back and there is enough quality up front to pick up plenty of wins.
  18. We got thumped 3-0 there last season, we are making clear progress.
  19. Ian Atkins is over scouting, worked with Round at Everton and Bruce at Sunderland. Has done nothing to inspire confidence.
  20. The only positive thing in the summer is that the wage bill should come down with the likes of Gabby, Terry, Snodgrass and Hutton all likely to be on big money. Assuming that is around £180-200k a week that should be enough to build a competitive championship 1st 11 on if there were some clever free transfers/small money signings made. We have to wait another 18 months to get rid of Richards, Elphick, Jedinak and Whelan.
  21. Dean Smith won't want to leave a club that is as well run and as clever as Brentford to work for the dim witted management in place here at the moment. With all the money squandered stupidly too means there is even less incentive for him to perform career suicide.
  22. Very rarely has he done it, Jordan Henderson would be the best player he ever brought through I reckon.
