  1. For some reason this bit jumped out first and then I saw you were talking about tidying up.
  2. Fizz is gone and onto the red wine (Amarone) whilst cooking the venison. Just the one shoulder though, decided a second would be two deer.
  3. I got this a few years ago. Currently opening gifts and drinking fizz whilst listening to it.
  4. I'm with @bicksteron the Beatles, not a fan and think they're massively overrated. But then again I think the same about Star Wars so I suspect I'm in the minority about these things.
  5. Having white pudding for the first time today. Very good shout.
  6. Realised as we were doing stockings that I'd have a few left over after the lad had finished so snuck a bag of chocolate buttons and a clementine into his bag. He looked in and shouted with glee "It's chocolate"... Quickly followed by "and something I don't like". Little beast!
  7. Just done stocking presents and so that the little one doesn't get carried away with it all the wife and I have some low key stocking gifts too. Half way through, the lad says that he asked for a Paw Patrol gift and can't see it. The wife explains that maybe it's under the tree as that's where Santa puts big gifts. I whispered over his head to say it should have been by the fireplace and good luck finding it (way too much under the tree). The wife takes offence, says I'm completely wrong about that and replies that she knows exactly where it is as she's got Christmas 100% sorted with no issues. The lad then pulls another gift out of his stocking and asks why Santa has given him shaving foam. It's the little things that make Christmas.
  8. Merry Christmas everybody, hope you have an amazing day and get some awesome presents!
  9. All presents wrapped, stockings done, Christmas dinner prepped, whisky beer drunk and now onto the single malts and Irish blends. Looking forward to the fry up in the morning, a good bottle of fizz, stuffing myself with Christmas dinner and a bottle of red, watching the little one go mental unwrapping presents and then relaxing watching something on TV. Merry Christmas everybody, hope you all have a fantastic day tomorrow.
  10. Questions to ask then are: - Do you need to actually WC in the next 2 weeks? How strong is your current squad - how set are you for the next few weeks? - How many FHs do you have? 1 or 2? Is there a better time to use them then this week (let me know if you figure this out for certain)? Most people will be missing loads of players so a FH if you get it right could be very useful, however, it might be worth more in a more predictable DGW or similar small week. I think there'll be a few more cancellations after the deadline. - Can you get a solid squad for the next 2 weeks off just a WC and save your FH? Personally I'm going to wait until as close to the deadline as possible to make any more decisions as it's just too unpredictable at the moment. You can at least plan out your WC (always fun) without confirming it.
  11. I treat myself to a whisky beer every Christmas Eve and tonight it's this one (a personal favourite): Father Christmas has told my son he wants a nice whisky left out for him so he'll be enjoying this one:
  12. When's the deadline for the first WC? Is it definitely still available next week? When I still had my WC around this time I'd use it to make sure I was set up for the busy Christmas /January period and wouldn't worry so much about an individual week. Not easy to plan right now though.
  13. What about Gremlins, is that a Christmas film?
  14. So it is. The wife reminded me it was on and said it was tonight. I'll tell her she was wrong. Have a merry Christmas everyone in case you don't hear from me again.
  15. Very much looking forward to watching the adaptation of Pratchett's Adominable Snow Baby on Channel 4 tonight.
  16. Watching Muppets Christmas Carol. First time my son has seen it and he's enthralled.
  17. They could tell the empty houses by seeing which ones curtains don't change, more realistic then automatic lights which most people use. Change it to Thanksgiving and shops being flush after Black Friday. Christmas is a convenient plot device and could easily be swapped out in Home Alone, as they do in Home Alone 3. For what it's worth, I'm on the fence about Die Hard being a Christmas film and can see arguments both ways. I just wonder why it gets singled out so much when so many other films (with similar issues) don't.
  18. Fair enough but using that metric there's potentially an argument to say films such as Love Actually, It's A Wonderful Life etc aren't Christmas movies, they just happen to be set at Christmas. You could also argue and say Christmas Carol isn't about Christmas, it's about a man realising the error of his ways and becoming a better person through seeing his past, present and future. Swap Christmas Day for his birthday, New Year's or Easter and you've got the same effect. Christmas is just a convenient setting.
  19. Die Hard mention Christmas a lot. There's a Christmas party going on, they say it's Christmas Eve, Argyle plays Christmas music, he writes Ho Ho Ho on a dead body. If the McAllisters went on a summer holiday it would be the same film.
  20. Not sure release date is the defining factor, quick Google says Miracle on 34th Street was released June 11th and Titanic released December 19th. There doesn't seem to be a single Christmas movie in the Top 100 box office releases for December.
  21. Having grown up playing rugby, I've never really thought of football as a contact sport.
