  1. I had a couple of similar thoughts before I went with toad in the hole, I figured it would provoke the fewest amusing responses. Hot dogs - “well they probably do contain real dog!” Spotted dick - Kenneth Williams gif
  2. Yes, that is true. I’m a little bit surprised that hasn’t already been put in place though. They must have looked into it over the years while this has all been going on. I suppose it’s because they’ll want the best deal possible and securing that requires champions league qualification, I guess?
  3. Following on from the veg naming talk in the Brexit thread - I’m sure it’s been asked before, but people who are upset about the term veggie burgers or vegan sausage rolls because “they’re not burgers/sausages”, do they get upset because the recipe for toad in the hole traditionally contains no amphibians? As it happens I finally got round to trying a Greggs vegan sausage roll as it happened, yep tastes like an original meat one. Wouldn’t have noticed the difference.
  4. Supporters of Forest, Newcastle and Ipswich with long memories will be able to vouch for and better 7th position.
  5. My ignorance on display here, but I hadn’t realised until just that it’s called “Tottenham Hotspur Stadium”.
  6. Oh I don’t believe for a second it’s unique to Wolves, of course it’s undoubtedly the case for loads of teams, Villa possibly more than most. But the dormant fans of Sheffield Wednesday, Forest etc don’t live near me*, so they aren’t an annoyance. *unless there are some near me and I’m yet to find that out
  7. Good against the good teams. Less good against the less good teams. The not insignificant number of people who live near me that have conveniently remembered they’re Wolves supporters in the last year or two seem content anyway.
  8. I’ve been to that vineyard a few times. I haven’t been to many so I can’t exactly compare but it’s nice enough. The sampling room is reasonable too, it’s something like three glasses for £5 I think. Not huge glasses but not the shot sized glasses I was expecting either. Annoying pedant alert, Halfpenny Green is in Bobbington rather than Wombourne. Like you, I don’t mind an occasional glass of wine, but I’d rather a beer/lager.
  9. Ah ok. So, hypothetically speaking of course, any praise given to a former manager who has taken over a new club in the other football section or in any other thread can also be chalked up to him being a new manager. Like I say, “hypothetically”. It would be very hypocritical to praise one manager’s early form when taking over a new club and dismissing another as the new manager bounce. Good, as long as no one is doing that.
  10. When we were on that bad run, you seemed to conveniently forget his opening 8-10 games in charge.
  11. Ha no that was removed years ago. Since then it was on display in the national football museum in Manchester. It’s now been removed because of the recent Jacko documentary.
  12. Not quite for me, as Bristol have a game in hand and are 1 point ahead. So they win that game in hand and we beat them, they’re still ahead of us. However that Bristol and Derby have to play each other is a massive help to us. Someone is dropping points either way.
  13. Slightly bad news for me. Boro are terrible at the moment and I don’t think they’d reach to the play offs so them winning would have had the net result of denting Bristol’s more realistic chances. Feels like it’s gonna be two from Villa, Bristol and Derby.
  14. ....and Fulham make it two confirmed relegated teams.
  15. They’re all important games, but it’s feeling like the outcomes to our game against Bristol and Bristol v Derby are going to be the big factors for these last two spots.
  16. For me, I think all this really depends on who you see as a bigger threat to a play off position, Boro or Bristol City. I think City are more of a threat, so if it’s not a draw tonight, my second preference is a Boro win.
  17. It’s 5 in 11 for them since he took over in fairness (Ipswich, Swansea, Brentford, Bolton and Blackburn). But you’re right, he’s clearly made them harder to beat but with the exception of an out of sorts Derby and Sheff Utd they haven’t faced too many clubs in the top half of the table. To put those 5 wins in 11 games in some sort of context, the 11 games prior to Bruce taking over Wednesday won 4 of them. So harder to beat obviously but how much more of a threat they are is up for debate. It’ll be a tricky one, this and the Bristol City game are the games I’m unsure of the most. But if we play the way we have been, I fancy our chances.
  18. A Carrey v Mussolini feud was not what I was expecting to see when I came to look in this thread. I await next week’s Sandler v Mugabe showdown with much anticipation.
  19. Yes Leeds in particular is a very good example. I wonder if O’Leary and Risdale are somehow involved in the building of the new spurs stadium. It would explain a lot.
  20. Yeah, I’d like them to do well, but I can’t help but feel they are literally missing (already missed?) their chance to capitalise on the position they got themselves into. They’re still in the champions league in fairness, but it’s probably reasonable to think that won’t be the case for long. It feels a bit like people will look back on these 5 or so years as a massive missed opportunity. It’s not exactly the same, but off the top of my head, the first comparison I think of is Newcastle in the 90’s being this good side but not winning things, falling away and ultimately leaving people wondering what could have been.
