  1. Gutted, still proud of the lads though. I know Wrexham have out spent the division but for years the likes of Fleetwood, Forest Green, Salford etc did the same whilst Wrexham were run by fan ownership. It's about time the club had some good luck. We've been signing players from League 1/2 in the main, so still a good effort to go toe to toe with a strong Sheffield United. Even more so after losing 2 of the 3 CB's after 7 mins. People can mock the Hollywood owners but they're genuine and give a shit. Money spent is mainly generated from sponsorship that they've helped bring in, plus sell-outs every game. After a decade of shit with Villa and Wrexham it's nice to have great owners at both clubs I support.
  2. As a non-smoker, I just wanted to post on page 420. Right on maaaaaannnn.
  3. My Mrs will be happy if he leaves. She's sick to death of me whinging about him being stuck on the bench and fawning over him. Now and then I'll show her the knob picture to hush her.
  4. Villa are severely lacking in pace, so this signing is very exciting to me. He's going to help drive the play forward far more quickly and it looks like his speed/dribbling/movement will help finally create a bit of space for the likes of Coutinho/Buendia to work in. With links to the likes of Deulofeu, it's clear Emery has identified pace as a big issue at the club, and rightly so. A couple of signings could quickly transform this side and help bring out some better form from players already at the club.

    Unai Emery

Looked really under the weather tonight. Hope he's not too sick. He looked shattered and full of the good old winter bug.
  6. His boy wearing an Argentina shirt. The French will want him banned from ever playing for the national team again.
  7. Yes, I agree on also looking at younger players with potential higher ceilings. It's just about having a nice balance of experience and youth. It doesn't have to be fully focussed in one direction. Ashley Young, at 37 has shown what having that know how and experience can contribute to games even when he isn't as physically quick or quite at the same core strength as he used to be. Hopefully we keep bringing in players from a range of backgrounds and level of experience. Variety is the spice of life!
  8. Zaha is a full on shit-house on the pitch. Winds me and the opposition right up. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it though and it's actually an asset in a way. He also delivers in terms of goals and assists. At 30, he's still got plenty of good years in the tank. His sort of experience and talent would be a great addition to Villa. I'd be all for it on a 3 and a half year contract.
  9. Well, McGinn was un-droppable after that thundering masterclass on Thursday

I should be talking about Uni but I can't stop watching this

  12. He really isn't a prime example. People wanting to see more of him are because he hasn't really had poor games aside from the Man Utd back-pass mistake. Other players have made mistake after mistake and still get game time yet. The guy seems like a good level box-to-box midfielder yet isn't given minutes to carry on showing it after previous, somewhat promising displays. Chambers has played well most games he's been involved in yet barely gets a look in. It's not some magical myth that decent players don't get given a fair share of game-time, especially when the team and some players struggle week after week.

    Matty Cash

It's been a lot of energy and bluster, some moments of magic but a huge number of frustrating moments. As mentioned, for an ex-winger, the final ball into the box is poor on far too many occasions. I know his role is high-energy but he's constantly on the wrong side of the opposition attacker and prone to giving away penalties or having to let them run through to avoid a card/penalty. It would be excusable if the attacking play resulted in produce, ala, Trent AA but there's not a lot. It's the same things happening time and time again. He's still a very good player, he has attributes but he's not got that competition or threat to his role. The one we do have is out on loan. Hopefully, under UE, the mistakes and clumsy-ness reduces but he can't transform all the players at once. I love Cash's energy and work-rate but it only gets you so far.

At the same time, I think it can show how much a well drilled team can do against the opposite. It just adds weight that it's not as simple as Emery is watching, got to impress him. Sometimes, I think people are so consumed on ourselves that we forget that there's an elite level opposition who are being set-up to counteract our dangers. It's not as simple as playing a 4-2-3-1 and then everything clicks. From what I've seen and read about UE, however, I don't think it will be as perplexing to him. He's probably encountered this sort of thing many times and I know from personal experience how much a mind-set can be altered with the right guidance. As long as you trust the person guiding then I think every player needs to be judged freshly over the next few months. Some players will not get on board and that's fine, they can move on or rot and get a poorer contract next move but those that are willing to go with him and listen will hopefully be better versions of what we have now. All that message wasn't aimed your direction btw, I just quoted you and started replying to one thing and then went off on a tangent, haha.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to him at Arsenal but always felt he was on a hiding to nothing there after Wenger. Perhaps if they'd have given him the same time and patience afforded to Arteta, he would have been fine. He clearly appreciates trust and being allowed to do his thing rather than everything micromanaged for him elsewhere. This feels like such a good fit. It will take time for things to really get going but at the same time, I think he'll be able to get a far more coherent tune out of what we've got now. He seems like a bloody good bloke too who just wants to do well for others and not his own ego. Superb.
  16. Messi11 is the forum clown Villatalk deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it.
