  1. I really feel bad for them... Lots of similarities to the later Lerner era now. Bad managerial appointments, over paying for poor players, not selling any on for profits, and in a bind financially.
  2. When he's in form, he's unstoppable. Most of the time, he's completely anonymous or will dribble into the corner, lose possession, and is slow to get back on defense while in transition. It feels like playing with 10 men a lot of times.
  3. TBH, he's an outstanding Championship winger and a good player for a club in the bottom half of the table. He has talent and on his day can be a real handful for even top defenses to stop, plus his penalty taking is world class. That said, inconsistency has been his biggest problem throughout his career, all the way back to his Ajax days. 15 million is probably a fair price for him. I'm a bit surprised that Everton is bidding for him because I don't think he's going to be the one to drive them on and play any better for them than he has for us.
  4. How much did we pay for El Ghazi? 4 million? I think 15 is definitely a fair value for him, but it will be the biggest profit we’ve made off a squad player in a long long time.
  5. Agreed. You don't push up the table by upgrading your bench, you do it by upgrading your starters. Fullbacks are the priority right now, followed by a top quality central midfielder. Central defender will probably be this summer's priority and we may look to cash in/upgrade other positions in the squad, depending on the interest we have.
  6. I still think Newcastle are involved in the conversation, which is complicating things. They're starting to realize that if they truly want to sign quality players, they're going to have to pay well over the odds for them this window. We may have verbally agreed to contracts/fees, but if the Geordies massively upped their offer in response, Everton or Digne may have come back to us trying to renegotiate before putting the pen to paper on the deal.
  7. Pretty sure all our players do this... Look at how often JJ & Dougie "gave the ball away" yesterday... I don't understand the obsession with singling out Buendia every time he gets dispossessed.
  8. I love him. One of my favorite players to watch. Doesn't really "lose the ball" vs "takes risks with the ball". When it comes off, he is brilliant. When it doesn't, we lose possession. IDK... I guess some Villa supporters think all quality attacking midfielders should be like Jack, who never gives up possession, but will take a foul over trying a risky through ball every time.
  9. Awful half. Ings and Watkins cannot play together, Targett doing his best to confirm LB is the next weakest position in the team, and plenty of lazy/sloppy touches from JJ and Dougie giving away possession for no reason.
  10. What a run by Buendia... Unlucky Ings wasn't there to tap that in.
  11. Nah... Davis for 50m+ "Have you seen this lad in training???? He's going to be a monster!!! Get him while he's cheap!!!"
  12. "Still think they need a proper leader - 6/10"
  13. Genuinely laughing at them right now. Newcastle supporters hate us with a passion for celebrating one of their relegations a bit too hard and seem to be desperately trying to create a "rivalry" between the two clubs. I had a conversation with an extremely smug Newcastle fan after the Saudi's took over and he was throwing out names like Coutinho, Haaland, etc as their January signings and that they were going to out spend/bid everyone in the league for players... Fast forward to today and the best manager they could appoint was Eddie fookin' Howe and are debating which of Origi, Solanke, or Wood to sign as the striker who is going to keep them up this season! Us signing Coutinho and possibly Digne is rubbing salt in their wound. I love it. Keep it coming.
  14. Haven't you heard that Digne has to use a walker to make it up and down the left side of the pitch? At 28, he has one foot in the nursing home already. We can't be signing players over the age of 19 or full internationals! If that doesn't make you worried, some bitter Everton supporters on EvertonTalk say he's crap and RafaBall is the only way to save them from relegation. Still need further convincing? EvertonLad22 on here says if he was any good, he'd be going to Chelsea instead of Villa, so he must be shite and the stats don't matter because he fails their "eyeball test"...
  15. Steer isn't good enough to be a reliable backup. If Martinez has to quarantine again after Argentina duty, we're automatically going to drop points with Steer in goal. Randolph makes a lot of sense.
  16. Needs to leave. He isn't anywhere near good enough. Everyone forgot how average he was in the Championship because of his playoff semifinal performance. Been completely out of his depth in his Premier League appearances.
  17. Does anyone watch football besides Villa? FFS, he's a backup keeper... Not supposed to be a worldie... He was one of the best keepers in the Championship when he was at Boro a few years back. Big upgrade on Steer and it's a loan... More good business that doesn't really cost us much.
  18. I'll drive him there myself if they offer that much for him. Don't get me wrong, I like Watkins, but he is not worth anywhere near that much. His work rate is world class, but he lacks top end speed, finishing, and vision/passing you need to be an elite striker.
  19. No to Digne!!! Don't need any more 42 year old players!!! /s
  20. Then you didn't see much of him prior to Rafaball. He's one of the best attacking fullbacks in the Prem. Digne is a huge upgrade on Targett all around.
  21. I'm still not convinced he actually plays for us... Just a figment of my imagination, streaking onto the pitch from the bench from time to time, just to do his hamstring in, and I snap back to reality...
  22. Watch the narrative change to "How can they afford this with FFP regulations? They must be breaking the rules in some way..."
  23. Well said. Probably seeing the first sign of it this season with Douglas Luiz hesitating to sign a new deal. Going all out signing Coutinho, Digne, etc is showing the team that our leadership is dead serious about getting us back up at the top of the table, challenging for titles again. They aren't just talking the talk, they're putting their money where their mouth is.
