  1. That's £163k/week - Would be our highest earner by ~40k/week (not counting Coutinho).
  2. Pretty sure if we pull off Digne and Bissouma or Aaron Ramsey on loan, the club's leadership is looking to try to gatecrash the Europa League places this season. Martinez Cash - Konsa - Mings - Digne McGinn - Douglas Luiz - Ramsey/Bissouma Buendia - Ings/Watkins - Coutinho Wow... This squad will terrorize teams if we can get firing on all cylinders. What a time to be a Villa fan!
  3. Lots of talk on Twitter of us being interested in Lucas Digne. Regardless of the cost, he's a huge upgrade on Targett and prior to Rafa's arrival, was one of the most consistent attacking LBs in the Prem. Sounds like he's struggled to adapt to Rafaball and had a fallout with the manager and they've already signed his replacement this window, so it's not a question of if he is going, it's where he's going to. Fullbacks play a huge part the width and build up play in Gerrard's formation and we need an upgrade from both the Mattys in order to continue to progress up the table. Digne would be a phenomenal signing, paired up with Coutinho down the left. Get it done, boys! UTV!!!
  4. Ramsey is very underrated on here. Gerrard rates him and has spoken very highly about him in the past. I think he's a massive upgrade on JJ and can see him absolutely unlocking defenses for fun with Coutinho on that left hand side of the pitch. He is a top class midfielder playing for one of the best clubs in Europe, but he is extremely injury prone and has missed 34 games for Juve over the past 2.5 seasons. He's also on a £400k/week contract until the end of '23, so unless he writes off more of his salary than Coutinho did, I can't see this happening at all.
  5. The media keeps using all these photoshopped photos of Coutinho in a claret & blue shirt and they pick the photos of him where he looks absolutely miserable. Not one I've seen so far shows him smiling or happy.
  6. Still my favorite Villa player chant of all time.
  7. Coming from Sky? Must be bullshit...
  8. Thanks, Captain Obvious... In other news, we're happy to report that water is wet, the Pope is Catholic, and bears shit in the woods...
  9. I don't care about Newcastle... They have money, but their club's squad and infrastructure is horrible. Ashley did fook all to keep the club updated and from all accounts, their training ground, facilities, and front office staff needs a massive overhaul. Just throwing lots of money at players won't suddenly turn them into European champions. Look at their manager search after sacking Bruce... The best they could lure there with all the money they have was Eddie fookin' Howe. I'm not worried at all about Newcastle.
  10. We're going to be linked to every player under the sun now. Media will have a circus...
  11. Digne is a big upgrade on Targett, but will cost quite a bit in wages/transfer fee. Hickey would be significantly cheaper, has the potential to be better than Targett, and has performed well in Scotland and Italy so far, but he might take a bit longer to pass Targett in the pecking order. Depends on what our ambitions are this season vs that of 1-2 seasons from now.
  12. This. Everyone is harping on about a DM, but our xG is 4th worst in the league. Coutinho is a huge upgrade to our creativity, but we need better fullbacks than the Mattys in Gerrard's system.
  13. He was fantastic on loan at Bayern 2 seasons ago. Everyone saying he's washed up or past his best because he hasn't been a consistent 9/10 every game for Barca is delusional. It may take him a few games to get back to fitness again, but he'll comfortably be one of the best players in England again by the end of the season.
  14. Tuanzebe is off to Italy, so we need at least 1 defender to backfill him. We're also extremely light at fullback and should be looking at more options for both RB & LB.
  15. Gomez, Digne, a new DM, and a little injury luck and we push for Europe this season.
  16. TBH, who cares what they think. We just signed one of the best players in the world at a cut rate deal. I don't care what fans of other teams think. Let them continue to ignore/laugh/mock us as we continue to rise up the table into title contention over the next 5-8 seasons. Haters gonna hate.
  17. 3 years ago, we signed our first Brazilian in the entire history of the club... We now have Coutinho... Unreal times these are, boys! Enjoy it!
  18. Granted, Barcelona just came off probably the most successful 20 year period a European club has ever experienced and when you're supposed to be replacing Neymar/Suarez/Messi and not performing at a 9/10 every single night, you're a failure. It's a bit how some Villa fans are already writing off Buendia as not being good enough because he hasn't been performing better than Grealish every night.
  19. Even more unreal if true... Purslow must be a master negotiator...
  20. Blown away... I'm still in complete shock... Biggest signing of the last 30 years. Unbelievable that we've even pulled this off.
  21. Keep in mind, he would have fooked off to another club as soon as they submitted an offer, but it never happened because he wasn't good enough. Sure, he says now that at one point Spurs bid for him, but he turned them down because Villa were doing better and he was playing well at that point in time, but pretty sure that's just complete BS. After MON left, he only played well enough in a contract year, got a new long term extension, then went back to not caring about performing again. Nothing personified our mediocrity and wasted potential more than Gabby during that era. Absolute bell end off the pitch and a lazy fooker on it. Jed Steer is more of a Villa legend than Gabby will ever be.
  22. Also, one more important point, if we sign Coutinho on a permanent deal and he finds his feet again, we have a bigger worldwide star to market that Grealish ever would be. The exposure and growth potential he brings to us from a merchandising/sponsorship standpoint is massive.
  23. I'm still in complete shock that: We're even in the conversation with Coutinho to consider a move to us It's actually looking like it's going to happen All Villa fans aren't absolutely over the moon right now I remember the rumors of Martin O'Neill trying to sign Wesley Sneijder/Rafael Van Der Vaart and dreaming that we'd be able to have some pull for genuine world class players and crack into the top 4, but that never materialized and we lost our window to Champions League football. Almost 4 years ago we were on the brink of financial ruin thanks to Dr. Tony, but now we have the pull and financial might to sign a genuine world class talent, who was the 3rd most expensive player of all time, away from Barcelona... Our ownership isn't fooking around and will expect us to get into the Champions League within 3 seasons now, if they continue to invest like this. What a time to be a fan... UTF'nV!!!
  24. We already are.... We really are a miserable lot, aren't we?
