Wesley is very intelligent player , draw 3 defenders & make space for teammates
-
Grealish bulk up too much , such that he’s lost his quick footwork ..
-
I was curious why Smith chose to play a Engel , ahead of Konsa/ Hause ... now we know .
-
A cool head next to the fiery Ming .. perfect combo !
-
Intelligent player .. able to pick pass & bring teammates into play

I feel modern strikers shouldn’t be judge only on his scored, it’s overall contribution to the team that’s more important . If he can creat more assist / link up play better / draw defenders/ pick a thru pass & allow Trez/Mcggin/Grealish/Anwar etc to score maybe 8-12 goals each , that’s much better than having a just 20 goal striker & the whole front line is only tasked to only create & support the striker to score. If a team play a system that’s fluid with 3-4 players as main goal threat , it will much harder to defense against , as compare to having only one main 20 striker as a goal threat. If he’s injured/red carded / suspension or sold, our goal threat is immediately down 60-70 %, like when Benteke left us. Wesley seemed a less selfish more intelligent player who will pass to a better position teammate , unlike many old fashion no 9 that will tried their best to score themselves , for their personal glory sake or chasing golden boot to earn bigger contract or paycheck. This system is of having a unit of attackers , rather than only one star no 9 , is much more sustainable in the long run, as it will be harder for rivals to buy the whole unit & even one or is sold , it’s easier & cheaper to replace. As long as Villa plays well & Wesley contribute in other ways , it’s ok even he doesn’t score. Of course if he keeps missing easy tap ins , that’s a different story.

Very good technical ability & perfect as in front 3 unit .His style of play suits need teammates with same wavelength that’s pass & move. A good gauge of his ability is when he’s running with the ball, the ball moving same speed as him glue to feet , unlike the old school winger Young/ Green that push ball & run type, which is really obsolete now in the modern game. Good luck O Hare !

I agreed. I hope he can develop game more , as he’s becoming a one dimensional player, only running straight at goal /shot fm outside box , no other new tricks etc. Maybe he do score some from distance by shooting outside the box in the championship, but it’s much more difficult in premiership with world class keeper & defenders.. if you don’t beat / trick a defender & and creat a opening , most likely the shot will be block, unless it’s a world class shot like Luis goal. Also , if you watch the Luis mistake that leads to the first goal , Mcggin nearest Trez but with a defender next to him. He should at least move his position to a creat a better angle to receive the ball from Trez , but he just stood there like a tree.. forcing Trez to hit it to Luis instead as the defender is too near Mcggin. It seemed many English league players do not have the habit of pass & move to creat angle to receive ball , they expect their team mate to dribble / beat a defender in order to make the pass to them ?? Mcggin has good potential & i hope Smith can help him develop with right attitude, application & more importantly GAME INTELLIGENCE . He have the engine & legs to run / low gravity to turn away from defenders / good shooting ability etc. With proper guidance I can see him developing into our very own De Bruyne, can dribble/ can pick a pass / can shoot ..it will be pity if he does make the step up

Palace is playing 80s football , no shape / no drills / no link up play/ long hopeful ball to the strikers. they will be in relegations mix I am sure .. Shef Utd is eventhough devoid of stars , but they played as a team / well drill/ everyone know their roles / always look to pass to teammates ..

The RJW63 Official Jack Grealish Appreciation Thread
Digavilla replied to kevangrealish's topic in Other Football
If he wish to do well for Villa in Premiership he needs to look & maybe even learn from the current established English crops eg the Maddison / Ali / Henderson etc, see how they effect the game. So far it seemed somethings holding him back , playing with fear. Small fish in big pond syndrome perhaps . Hope Smith /Terry can help him -
He’s not a winger like Sterling .. more like a Silva that’s plays a possession game .. feel we are not utilizing him properly.
-
Grealish seemed to lack confidence , don’t dare to take players on , play at much slower pace as compare to when in championship ..
-
What a goal ... no matter pep was sad to let him goal ... comon Villa
-
Wonderful player , but need to release the ball to teammates faster , more like De Bruyne, as Mcggin often try to carry the ball forward himself too much , he may have the legs but it will not be as easy as compare to when in championship.
-
Agreed. Read somewhere they generated about 60m profit in player sales. Since they are in championship they are under no pressure to spend loads , net in no out, unlike most promoted team like us who generally’s expected to spend large portions of the premiership income. Benrahma is quality & really hope we get him .

Can’t figure why Smith would sign a Marlon Harewood type of striker .. it’s so different to his other previous more mobile strikers like Maupay etc...

Saw the game, it was a bad tackle ,was in great pain & limping off the pitch .. maybe out for awhile

Because Old Brucie wrecked it & he may need time to piece it together in order to sell

Yes i agree . that’s a wiser system than having only one out & out main striker, even a 20 goal one . It’s also harder to defense against a group of attackers. I remember when we only had a peak Benteke , but when’s he is out injured our goal threat is totally gone ..

The goal will be good for his confidence. He’s scored lots of similar goals at Brentford. Always like his attitude & his finishing is clinical if ball us on the deck, not Bruce’s style of aimless crosses.. His goal today may look easy but I remember Abraham missed lots of such chances last season..
