  1. You don't tell me anything I need to know about the game.
  2. Decent battling performance, I love that we fight now. We did very well to hold a potent Liverpool team to a one nil loss. It was backs to the wall for long periods, but we defended manfully today and showed some promise moving forwards. Mings was done for pace with the pen, so yes, another rick from him, but he was excellent in many other ways. Plenty of positives, biggest negative is our inability to string passes together and has been for a while. Bring on Norwich.
  3. He always tries hard, he just went badly off the boil after injury, being played out of position and losing his best mate. Like every player, he has experienced a dip in form and is now making all his doubters eat their words. Long may it continue.
  4. Well, it's very un-Villalike to get a new manager bounce, but I guess if anyone was going to achieve it, it was probably going to be Gerrard. He couldn't have done more so far, but congratulations to the players as well, for responding in such a positive fashion. Very pleasing.
  5. Benefitting from being more compact, braver on the ball and generally more confident. We are actually properly dominating an opponent. Very encouraging. Don't throw it away Villa. Keep up the concentration please.
  6. Dumb to write him off, or even come close to that, he has ability, Gerrard just needs to unlock it. Buendia can and must do more, he's probably not fit, but it's mostly about belief. He needs to challenge himself to be better.
  7. It was. Matty comes across as a decent, honest and fairly simple footballer, like most of them are. They function best when they have a clear idea of what they are supposed to do and a license to get on with it. Players passing notes when defending corners is probably more indicative of the issues we've been facing than we gave it credit for.
  8. You were right to be concerned when you wrote this. He showed up today and showed some of what he is capable of.
  9. Decent against a good Brighton team. You can see what Gerrard is trying to do - pressing high - and it looks to have potential. McGinn our best player but also indebted to Martinez. Could go either way in the second half. Score first and I think we will win.
  10. Agree, we don't have to love him, professional is enough... if he gets results.
  11. He sounds professional and determined, but it remains to be seen if his take no prisoners, 'elite expectations' will be met by the players. Only takes one bad egg, as Gabby will attest. Hope he succeeds and I'm sure I'll come round if he does, but it's weird that it's him. He isn't easy to love, however sure-footed he sounds.
  12. Are you honestly trying to tell me that supporting Aston Villa brings with it the potential of disappointment?
  13. If there's a more predictable next action than AEG cutting inside and losing the ball during an unsuccessful dribble, I can't think of one. Wingers are supposed to be mercurial and have the ability to surprise. He must lose possession 75%-80% of the time. It certainly feels like that.
  14. Whomever comes next IS going to be another punt. You just know it. They need to make a statement by getting a name to maintain the illusion of 'continuous progress', but they also have to be realistic because we are a shambles, so we ain't getting anyone next level. It will be a compromise somewhere between those two positions... it'll be could work, but probably won't punt like Gerrard. Rogers won't come, so before anyone says it, I do know that, but a manager of his calibre would sort us out in no time.
  15. Adkins was doing alright, they weren't in free fall. What 'next level manager' relishes the prospect of arresting a slide?
  16. He looks like the luxury he is unfortunately, which is a shame because there's no doubt he's talented. Do we need an unpredictable trickster or someone who can put his foot on the ball and pick a pass? He ain't the latter. Impact sub at best currently.
  17. Agreed, just as winning breeds success, losing can become a habit and we are currently only heading in one direction. We need to interfere with the momentum before it becomes unstoppable.
  18. Doing something isn't much of an accolade, is it?
