  1. when did we last win 3 games in a row?! lets **** do them!
  2. Gareth Barry Danny Welbeck Oxlade-Chamberlain Tom Huddlestone
  3. Rio Ferdinand John Terry Stephen Ireland Ashley Young
  4. I think he will turn out to be a real gem of a manager, he seems popular with the media and the players. He may be full of himself but I think thats a good thing and his half time bollocking and flip chart throwing seemed to do the trick nicely! Here's hoping! I must say that finally having a manager who can change things over the course of a game and doesn't wait until the 80th minute to bring on his first sub has been a breath of fresh air. We were woeful in that first half, but the difference in the second was like night and day - Lambert would never have got that reaction from the players, if we were going in 1-0 down at HT it would seem pretty likely we would then go on to lose the game. Full credit to Sherwood, but I do worry about his volatile personality in the long run.
  5. Personally I think it was probably a dive, but to be sent off was extremely harsh because he never should've been on a yellow anyway. You shouldn't be yellow carded for your first foul, particularly when it's such a minor one. Some of the WBA players were allowed 3 or 4 fouls before being carded, by giving Jack a yellow card for his first foul when there was no need the referee put himself in a situation where he had to hand out a silly red. I think something similar happened to Torres a few seasons back - he was shown a yellow for a very minor foul, then a few minutes later jumped away from a tackle, the ref ran up to show him a yellow for diving and then realised that he'd already given him a yellow and had to send him off, I seem to remember the ref pulling out the yellow then looking instantly like he'd made a mistake when he realised he would have to send him off. The ref was extremely inconsistent on Saturday and lost all control of the game, Jack was a victim of that, but IMO does need to try harder to stay on his feet
  6. I still think things have to potential to go pretty calamitously wrong under Sherwood somewhere down the line; he's never had to build a squad and seems the type who could end up pissing off the whole dressing room. When he came in I thought he would be a good choice to get us motivated and attacking to keep us up this season, and I must say I've been very impressed with him so far. The extra media coverage we've been in receipt of is just bizarre - I read three different articles about Gabby last week! Nice to be treated like one of the big clubs in the league, because that is exactly what we are. Well done to Tim for injecting some much needed life into this football club, and while I'm not yet convinced that he's the right man long term, I'm more than happy to be proved wrong - more weeks like the one just passed and I'm sure many will be converted
  7. Yes we have. Whoops, of course we have. It's still been largely dire though
  8. this season has been dire but I'm not dreading relegation. If we go down, so be it - we havent been good enough for years, not reached 40 points since the Houillier season. Am I really that bothered about making up the numbers? Even if we get back to battling for the heady heights of 8th, 7th or 6th that is still all we'd be doing. Will I stop supporting Villa if we get relegated? No, obviously not - part of me is excited to be part of a competitive league that we might win, plus well get a few decent Midlands derby games. Look at the top clubs and look at Southampton, were as likely to get back among the big boys if we go down and have to battle our way back up, however long that takes, as we are if we scrape to 34 poxy points this season. Premier league football hasn't been exciting for a long time, it'd hurt to lose the prestige of being ever present in the league, but once I get over that there will be reasons to be excited going into the next season. We've won nothing at all for the best part of 20 years, this club needs to regain a willing mentality and if that's in the championship then so be it
  9. 4-2-3-1 Guzan Hutton Clark Okore Cissokho Westwood Delph Bacuna Gil Sinclair Benteke huge game for us
  10. I just don't know where I am with Bacuna. On the one hand, he scores goals and pops up with a decent pass here and there; but when he isn't doing that he invariably looks like the worst player on the pitch. Should only play as a wide forward for me, lacks any of the composure necessary to play in midfield. I can't understand people saying he should be starting every week, because he just isn't good enough IMO
  11. Gabby should be starting away games and any other time that we're playing on the counter. For home games, and other times where we'll be on the front foot I increasingly see him as back-up to Benteke.
  12. I'd love Southgate here, intelligent and articulate guy, did a pretty decent job at Boro initially despite being inexperienced. He's still well-regarded with the fans here which would give the club a lift. Whether he'd leave the England U21 job for Villa, I'm not so sure.
  13. Spurs are such a **** dirty, cheating, diving team of words removed
  14. I've not felt worried about relegation at any point really under Lambert. The first season was touch and go but after Christmas you could see the team progressing and Benteke was banging them in for fun. Last season I never really felt we were in danger of it, although the end of the season was cause for concern. Right now though, if we continue in the same form that we have since about October we will be relegated. If you don't score goals, you can't win games - and frankly, if we continue scoring less than one goal a game we deserve to go down and can have no complaints. We have a decent team - most bottom half teams would show interest in having Guzan, Hutton, Aly, Vlaar, Clark, Okore, Westwood, Cleverley, Weimann, Gabby, Benteke, Delph, Gil and Sanchez among their ranks. These are decent players and there really can be no excuses for the lack of goals and the terrible football on show. I could say I fear the worst, but like many others I've become so numb to the whole thing - I highly doubt I'll be going to any more games this season and really I don't think I'd care a great deal if we went down. Villa Park is half empty anyway, and we're only in the league to make up the numbers. Right now, I'd rather see us win a play-off final than finish in 15th again - I know some people aren't of that view but I'm a Villa fan in my early 20s. I've not seen us win anything and really there's been **** all to get excited about my whole time following the club. I don't want us to go down, but I really wouldn't be devastated if we did, certainly not like I would've been if it had happened 3, 5 or 10 years ago.
  15. Clark should be captain going into next season. Local lad, been at the club forever and starting to look a real leader on the pitch. Immense this season so far, well done Ciaran.
  16. Guzan Hutton Okore Clark Cissokho Westwood Sanchez Gil Weimann Delph Benteke
  17. should be given a go as a wide forward instead of gabby/weimann. thought he was decent at RB last season but IMO he's looked dreadful pretty much every time hes been played in midfield - lacks the first touch and misplaces passes too often to play there.
  18. Genuinely wouldn't be surprised to see him slip rapidly down the divisions and end up in league one within a few years. a la luke chadwick, another who looked promising for united but declined quickly. easily our worst midfielder so far this season, and weve been hopelessly bad
  19. every time we defend a corner it annoys me that gabby isnt up the pitch to chase a clearance. if hes in the team why dont we just use him for what hes good at? weimann could surely be near the edge of the penalty area ready to bolt as well, hes pretty nippy when he gets going. idk a great deal about tactics, but we just invite pressure on ourselves and eliminate any chance of a counter attack
  20. I'd say being our record Premier League goalscorer probably helped a bit too.
