  1. I actually think we'll hit a decent run of form at some point and stay up fairly comfortably. Just a hunch... Can see Benteke smashing a load in second half of the season Unfortunately I also think this will paper over the cracks, Delph, Vlaar and Benteke will all leave in the summer, next season will be miserable and we'll go down hopelessly. Time will tell.
  2. Despite the empty seats, the Holte were pretty . loud yesterday up until a point. Somewhere around Benteke being sent off and the decision not to send off Chadli it went quiet, you could sense it wasn't our day then. didnt hear a peep from the Spurs fans until they went 2-1 up
  3. Yes BBC, I tuned in to hear the unbiased opinions of a Spurs player. You **** joking?
  4. Utterly frustrating, but you have to look for positives. 11 vs 11 we were the better team today, we created chances, Benteke looked back up to speed, Weimann was probably the best player on the pitch. I think we'd have won if Benteke hadn't been sent off and I think we'd have scored again, the momentum was with us at that point and whilst Spurs had chances they hadn't looked all that dangerous. Most of their best chances had been quite scrappy and gifted with silly errors by our defence, but I think Baker and Vlaar both had good games today on the whole. Lowton definitely has a part to play IMO, going forward he's one the best creative outlets at the club - he was causing real problems in the first half and he gets into good positions. You never feel secure with him in defence though, and he seemed to be playing in a back three with Vlaar and Baker at times in the first half, with Weimann effectively playing right back. He was a long way from where you'd have expected him to be on a few occasions, and he stands off too much. I definitely share the opinion that he'd be more use in midfield. The referee really was awful today, that second half was just bizarre. It's not so much that I disagree with Benteke being sent off, but it looked like there were 2 or 3 players pushing and getting right in his face, will be interesting to see it again on MOTD as I couldn't really see clearly from where I was sat, but it didn't seem right that his was the only card given after that melee. Vertonghen and Chadli's tackles both looked bad from where I was, but I'll wait and see before saying they should've both been off. I thought there were a couple of corners given as goal kicks and throw ins given the wrong way, although tbf I remember us getting at least one throw that should've been Spurs'. Very bad game for the ref. We weren't brilliant today, but that was about as good as we've played all season, and with Benteke and Weimann both looking dangerous I actually thought I could see the start of some sort of attacking game plan to take forward. We really could have done with gaining some momentum today, to lose a game in that fashion, just as were actually playing well AND have Benteke out for three games, you hope the team can respond; next three games could set the tone for the rest of the season.
  5. Still think he could play a part for us, has slighlty more of an idea going forward than most our players, he was obviously not up to speed last night but he's about the only player we've got who can whip a decent cross in
  6. Just read that we're the first team since Derby to go five games without scoring, pretty damning regardless of the opposition in the first four. (Not sure if that's correct)
  7. I'd see how we do in the next 3 games, if we capitulate as we have done in the past 5 then he has to go IMO.
  8. Very poor tonight, 3 or 4 deliveries that rolled along the floor into the first man, don't think he wants to be here and I've seen little to suggest we should spend 8m on him in the last year of his contract.
  9. Yet again we see no changes until the game is lost, as well. We have options on the bench this season, but Lambert doesn't have a clue how to impact a game 9 times out of 10.
  10. I've been as pro-Lambert as anyone, and said during last season that he should get until Christmas this campaign; but this is hopeless - I've not ever felt worse than this as a Villa fan, save for maybe the last few games of the McLeish season. No progression, you could see tonight we had clearly the better players on the pitch - but what exactly are we trying to do to win the game? What's our plan? Why not start with Grealish or Cole, seen as our tactics clearly haven't worked seen as we've gone 4 games without a goal? I've not felt it under Lambert's tenure, even in our worst run of Lambert's first season I felt confident we could turn it round because you could see we could score goals and were trying to do the right thing. I think we will go down this season, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us lose our next 3 games. Might have to **** the whole thing off and go watch Boldmere St Michaels.
  11. QPR didn't even try to play football, aiming for a 0-0 and we hand them the **** easiest victory of their season. I've been positive and wanted to give Lambert time, but I'm struggling to see anything from this team that warrants him being kept in a job - not that it matters because he'll be here at least until the end of the season no matter what. Two points off the relegation zone, and if we don't start scoring goals pretty bloody quickly we will be hovering in and around it for the rest of the season. No-one came out of that with any credit, other than Sanchez looking good for the first 50 minutes or so. If we lose without scoring again on Sunday, things could start to get nasty pretty quickly.
  12. a left back who can defend and offer something in attack would be great
  13. Villa away following in excellent voice as per, we look comfortably the better team; QPR are poo. Benteke is so bad at getting back onside
  14. An African gentleman approached me at Five Ways yesterday and said "hey man whos this?" - he proceeded to show me a contact on his mobile phone titled 'Jores Okore', so I said "that's Jores Okore". My new friend shouted "wahey!!" and gave me a high five, then we both went our seperate ways. This can only be a good sign as far as I'm concerned, and so I look forward to seeing Mr Okore back in action soon!
  15. I like Westwood, I think he developed as a player last season and if he's been bulking up this summer this is more evidence (IMO) that the lad is willing to work on his game to become a better player all around. He's an intelligent footballer who can obviously see things happening on the pitch before his team mates. I would, however, agree that he is wasted in front of the defense and should we sign Sanchez (or another DM) I think we'll see a lot better from both Westwood and Delph with them being able to play further up the pitch. His goal against the Baggies was possibly my favourite of last season, and I loved the way he celebrated - kissing the badge, running up to the fans; stuff like that and the image I've included above make me feel that this lad cares about the club and has absorbed himself in Villa. I hope for him to have a long and happy career with us.
  16. I've a good feeling about this signing, always rated him as a decent PL player and as others have said, at 29 he's not over the hill yet. But then, I had a good feeling about Tonev!
  17. I've no problem with this signing, could turn out well IMO
  18. The same Ashley Cole who nearly crashed his car when offered 'only' 55k p/w? Wouldn't bet on it
  19. I could honestly see him accepting a lower paid contract to keep on playing for us - he won't have it better anywhere else, all his family are set up for life and he's a local lad so they/he probably enjoy living around Sutton and have no intention of moving.
  20. I'm from Birmingham, but my heritage is Irish and if I'd become a footballer I'd have most likely chosen to play for Ireland. When Ireland make it to a major competition I follow them over England, and in the six nations I back Ireland as well. Nationhood isn't about which country you're born in. I'd like to see Jack turn out for Ireland, but it's entirely up to him who he declares for.
  21. No-one would have beaten City last night; I viewed the match the same way as I did the Man U game last year where they had to beat us to win the title. The only time I bet on football is putting money on a Villa win against the big teams, so in that respect the team have actually been quite good to me this year, but it would have been throwing money away last night. A couple of good moves for us and Grealish on the pitch, 4-0 flattered them and we certainly have nothing to be ashamed of. Onwards to Spurs, be nice to finish the season with a win as I can't stand them!
  22. "shoes off if you love villa" . the commitment he showed to the cause was admirable
  23. I love you, Aston Villa. I forgive you for the pain you've caused me. MOTM the bloke in the lower holte trying to get everyone to take their shoes off. Villa Park was bouncing today, so nice that my weekend hasn't been ruined for once!
