It works the opposite in my head. I never bet against villa. If we lose, I'm still depressed despite the money and if we win, I'm less happy because I'm out the bet. Normally I'm glass half full, but not with betting and villa.

might be it's own thread, but I feel like our transfer strategy for some time has been listing decent upgrades at all 11 positions, then seeing which options on those lists we could get at a decent price. Not a bad plan if you have a strong club. Maybe not if you have a decent club and you are looking to gradually improve over time. Really bad plan if you have some glaring needs. I think we have glaring needs.... GOALS. But we keep filling in other gaps. The players that can reliably score goals are rarely available at a decent price. I'v got nothing against this one and agree it's an upgrade, but wonder if it's the right place to spend limited funds.

I was pretty despairing because I was reading of him here. Then I read the letter he sent to season ticket holders and feel a bit better. (not deeply optimistic mind you, just not completely despairing.) Many of his comments quoted here sound much more reasonable in context.

I thought he looked a bit weak positionally but he was extremely composed and solid with the ball at his feet. DCJonah could be right that he was a waste, but out of all the bad decisions we have dealt with in the past 5 years, Crespo is FAR, FAR down the list. So far in fact, that I would not be inclined to even put it on the list.

I would suggest to that kid that he probably shouldn't be a scout or manager after he retires.
